The more they repress downloads, the more people will download it illegally.

are those radio airplay stats good? Sorry, i don't follow that at all so not sure exactly what they mean... They LOOK good... Does anyone know where I can find the new promo pics for the new album? Not the album cover, I think there were 2 or 3 other ones that surfaced.... Are they in this thread somewhere, and I missed them? thanks!

With only two other strongly climbing songs immediately in front of her, Kelly will sail past that soon, I believe. This is getting very exciting.

This is thanks to jmloveskc from the Kelly Clarkson Express board:
NA had the following numbers it's 1st week: POP - #42. HOT AC - #41. The highest it got on POP was #21, and #12 on Hot AC.
Posted for those who want actual numbers to compare between NA and MLWSWY.

NA peaked so low, such a shame. In round numbers, NA sold approximately 800,000 copies, most of them downloads. If 750,000 of those sales were in downloads at 99 cents per copy, that made RCA about $742,500. I don't know if that amount resulted in a profit on NA, but the real profit for record companies has been in album sales. RCA lost money on MD. With worldwide album sales down sharply last year, RCA needs this new Kelly project to succeed, so they'll promo it hard. While I don't care about RCA, Kelly needs this new project to succeed, because new, popular material drives ticket sales for concerts. Concerts are where artists make their money. So I'm thrilled that MLWS has started off so strongly.

I could've swore "Never Again" got top 20, guess I was wrong. Nope, it hit a brick wall just outside the top 20, then fell like a rock. It sold a lot of digital downloads, though.

I hope this album becomes so successful that is makes people want to check "My December" out and have it sell more. That would show RCA what is up!

So I'm thrilled that MLWS has started off so strongly. I was almost certain that Never Again sold 950,000 + digital downloads so i went on a search. So as of April 2008 Never Again had sold 953,000. It could very easily be over 1 million by now. USA Today April, 2008Kelly's Breakaway sold 2,400, down from 3,500, for a total of 5.97 million. My December sold 1,000, down from 1,500, total 759,000. By special request for Michael Lopez, Thankful sold 800 and totals 2.7 million. He also asked for a couple of download totals for two of Kelly's songs -- Never Again is at 953,000, Walk Away at 922,000.

I'm sure 800k in single copies more than paid for NA. As for the era as a whole, Kelly practically did the whole album herself, so I'm sure RCA made bank on MD. Especially considering they barely put any cash into it.

Hopefully RCA will allow more copies of it to be shipped to the record stores as I'd love to see MD break 1,000,000 in the U.S.

I'm sure 800k in single copies more than paid for NA. As for the era as a whole, Kelly practically did the whole album herself, so I'm sure RCA made bank on MD. Especially considering they barely put any cash into it. Kelly "practically did the whole album herself" using RCA advance money to do so. Every artist with a label is paid an advance (loan) to record an album. That money (2 or 3 hundred thousand) comes right off the top of sales and goes back to the record company as repayment of expenses, not as part of their gross profits. If RCA did not recoup 100% of its advance on MD, plus whatever other expenses Kelly is contractually obligated to pay, they will take those costs off the top of her new album. So I hope MD did make a net profit for RCA. Again, I don't give a damn about RCA, but am thrilled that this era is starting off so well because it benefits Kelly in the long run. Eventually, maybe Kelly can go the indie route if she wants to. Radiohead, Madonna, Yael Naim, and Elliott Yamin went that route. I suspect that as CD sales continue to fall, more artists might consider going indie.
