In my opinion, Bad Boy along with HR, has got to be the most horrible labels out there. I just feel bad for such talents that don't reap all the hard work they've done. Day 26, Selena Gomez, Jesse McCartney, just to name a few. I know that it's a 'corporation' standard, that if their albums don't sell, they ain't going to be a next one. How the hell in the world will you know if this album is a flop or not if you don't support the artist's record. WTF.
What are your thoughts? Which do you think is the best and the worst record labels? IMO, there is no such thing as a good label, since they're all corporations just picking quick dollars off the consumers' pocket, but in terms of the artist's success, there maybe a good side of the spectrum.

I think Bad Boy is the worst, and Jive is the best. :)

Jive is pretty good. Blackground, Hollywood, Bad Boy, and RCA are the worst.

Jive is probably the best one. Hollywood is far and away the worst.

They're all equally bad, treating artists like shit, as if they were happy to lose money. But they're all equally good, when they get behind an artist and push him/her to success.

Jive has been pretty good lately. Most have been pretty bad at one time or another.
Island Def Jam has been pretty good with some releases like Rihanna's last album and Mariah's TEOM from '05 (from singles 1 thru 4, then the rest of the era got messed up).
Hollywood is always bad all the time. It'll be good for like a minute or two but then they just screw everything up. I just wonder why they even bother anymore when it'll just get messed up anyway?
Warner Bros. is really bad too. They haven't done much promotion for Madonna and Alanis Morissette's last albums. I know that the Madonna situation is a bit different given that she will be leaving soon to go begin her LiveNation deal. All the promotion for Hard Candy was really great from the release of the first single to advertising the album, but then it all just went bad. I agree the album wasn't as great as earlier releases, but with the right singles and good promotion, it could do okay. Then the video for single #2 was really cheap, and then there was no video for single #3. And now it looks like the era is over. With Alanis', they didn't do anything at all. And it was one of her better albums in years.
RCA, Arista, J, Sony BMG, Bad Boy, Blackground, Interscope, Columbia and Astralwerks are really bad most of the time. Interscope could have done a little more to promote Robyn when her album was finally released here. Yes, she did make a few appearances on late night talk shows and stuff, but that's not enough. And with Astralwerks, the release of Kylie's X was a disaster.

Got to say that Interscope is giving Hollywood records a run for their money in worst major label ever!

Hollywood is the worst by far, and the second in that category should be Bad Boy. Jive is the best, but Def Jam it's good too.

Hollywood is the worst by far...but Bad Boy isn't as large as Interscope...so I'm not sure which one's worse.

Jive deserves the best category especially with the Ciara fiasco.

IDJ/Def Jam managed to flop Mariahs album despite Mariah coming off a HUGE selling #1 album. They also flopped with Janet even with LA picking all of the songs on the album. I think Def Jam is really only good with Rihanna and is hit or miss with everyone else.
JIVE is good accept that Usher flopped after having a HUGE SELLING #1 album. However, Jive managed to revive Britney's career even with the mediocre videos.

Def Jam didn't flop Mariah's album, Mariah's album was just mediocre. I wouldn't have put much money into promoting it either.

Why do people say Interscope is the worst? Yeah, I don't get that one either. I actually think they seem to be one of the better labels out there. The only ones I would rank higher are, like, Verve, and others that have tried and true methods.

Jive is the best ( Britney, Ciara, Usher, Justin)
The Inc/ Murder Inc Records is the worst.
They've had the biggest downfall of all time.
2001- 3 top ten hits and 5 million worldwide.
2002- they had 10 top ten hits between Ashanti , Ja Rule, J.Lo and sales of 13 million worldwide.
2003- they had 6 top ten hits between Ja Rule and Ashanti and sales of 5 million worldwide.
2004- they had 2 top ten hits with Ja Rule and sales of 3 million worldwide.
2005- they had 3 top ten hits with Ashanti and Ja Rule and sales of 6 million worldwide.
2006- 2 top ten hits with lloyd and sales of 1 million worldwide.
2007- no hits, 200,000 worldwide sales
2008- 1 top ten hit with Ashanti and sales of 600,000 worldwide sales thanks to ashanti and Lloyd.
THE BIGGEST DOWNFALL OF ALL TIME. ONCE THE BEST, NOW THE WORST.

Def Jam didn't flop Mariah's album, Mariah's album was just mediocre. I wouldn't have put much money into promoting it either. E=MC2 is not mediocre. People have decided that it "must be" mediocre because it performed below expectations. Everyone forgets she got some of the best reviews of her career for it, except for the dumbies who listened to Migrate and I Wish You Well and called it a TEOM clone, which it SO isn't. I'm not sure we really are in a position (most of us) to have any real perspective on which labels are good and which aren't.

i think interscope has some of the best artists but the label itself is retarded. Like making the lastfm pics "defaults"? I made a comment about how I stopped listening to their artists because of the default pictures they chose, and the next day the defaults were gone. I mean, I hated the Rejects picture so much, I honestly did want them out of my top 8. It was awful.
