I've never been fond of this whatsoever. Out of all the megahits of the '90s, this is probably the least special to me.

There are other songs from her I like better, but this is good. Got to #4 on my chart. I'm waiting for a certain someone to see this thread so we can get an opposite opinion

It really is a great song. Fantastic lyrics, understated production and I love the guitar solo. It's also one of the first pop songs I remember.

I would have to agree even though this was the biggest radio hit of 1998 I tend to completely forget about this. It's probably because I never really cared for this or paid much attention to it when i was younger. The only memorable part of the song for me was the last 30 seconds.

It's a great song. I don't know if it was one of my favorites when it was out, but I liked it. The video was clever for its time too.

I was six when this song came out, and i remember hearing snippets of it EVERYWHERE for years and not knowing what it was called but really liking it. When I finally found it and bought it it became one of my most-played songs ever pretty quickly

It was fine enough in my musical coming of age, but I think this song is fairly overestimated at places like here. It's a pleasant song, but nothing really special.
I much prefer "Identify" and "Wrong Impression."

This is only one of the top five greatest songs ever, IMO.

I used to love this song, but now? I don't think I ever have to hear it again to be honest.

I used to love this song, but the few times I've heard it the past four years, it's turned into a big, melodramatic sing along with whoever was in the room--part nostalgic love, part ridicule. I still have sort of a soft spot for it, and own it, but don't really voluntarily listen to it.

MTV used to play this video ALL the time in the summer of 1998. I just downloaded "Left of the Center" album and there are definitely better songs than this on the album. But "Torn" is up there as far as pop songs.

I was obsessed with this song/album when it was out! To this day it's still one of my all-time favorites I remember sending her and Gloria Estefan fanmail back in the day and they both sent me autographed pictures back I've also sent ones to Celine, Mariah, Britney, and Shania but they never answered. HMPH! >:(

Was never impressed with this. "Smoke" was far superior.

Still love this. Heard it the other day for the first time in a long time and it took me back to my childhood. I was always mesmerized by the "lying naked on the floor" lyric.

I absolutely ADORE Natalie. This song is by far in my top 5 greatest songs, ever. Her voice, her style. This song is perfect for her. She did it justice that's for sure.

When this was in the Top 40, Rick Dees played a clip of a version that hit #1 in Norway by someone else and from the 10 seconds he played, it actually sounded a lot better than Natalie's version.

The video is amazing, the part where her man leans into kiss her but then just turns away is so sad. They're trying to work it out in the video, but it just doesn't happen.
It's just her singing in an apartment while her man moves out and it gets emptier and emptier until it's just her. :(

Remember this one folks. The radio played the ish out of this song back in 1998. I remember hearing this on KIIS FM in LA a lot back in 1998 and it was featured in a Season 1 episode of "Charmed" back in October 1998. I love this song.

The four threads for Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn" have now been united in holy matrimony, and there is absolutely nothing Kim Davis can do about it.

One of my top 10 songs of the 90s. Reached the top of my personal chart for three weeks. She later reached number two with Wrong Impression though. Interesting that she had a similar guitar sound in WI probably to try to make people associate it with T :) I heard the original version which was fine to me. Natalie's version was great on its own though. Her vocal performance transmitted the needed emotions too, so no complaints at all. It was a big hit back home too, and was even popular in the rock radio station. Unfortunate that this was not allowed to chart in the hot 100 when it was peaking due to its not being released as a single. Stupid rules. A classic of the XX century :)

Love it! Overplayed, definitely. But it's one of those songs that just hasn't gotten old for me.
