New Promo Only Modern came in today. This is the only song on there without a topic devoted to it, so I kinda felt obligated to start it. Nothing special to say about the song itself. A little to electronic alternative for my taste.

I love how you're pretending not to know that it's a Kelly Clarkson cover. And I don't know what universe you'd have to live in to consider this 'electronic'.
Anyway, pretty standard pop punk cover, but it's no worse than the original. I can imagine it turning up in the background of a teen gross-out comedy or something in the near future.

Probably the universe where CHR is never played. No pretending here, no clue on a remake. I checked the credits in the liner notes, and it's credited to Luke / Martin / Kelly. But I'll take your word for it. I only meant the electronic drum beats and voice alterations were not to my liking. I also should have mentioned this is the "Punk Pop Version" in the title, so maybe it's different than what you've heard.

Wouldn't the Kelly in those credits be Clarkson? Or am I just dumb for putting two and two and making four?

The song isn't just a remake Artie, its a remake of a song that's still charting, it was only released like 4 months ago.

Promo Only lists by last name. So no clue why Kelly would go by first name. And I don't follow CHR charts or radio, so that wouldn't help me.

It's kind of an obvious title though, isn't it? I mean, if someone made a song called "American Idiot", wouldn't your first thought be, gee, is this a hot Green Day remake?

I've heard American Idiot and have seen its chart action. My Life Would Suck Without You did not trigger any song title familiarality. But it sure will now!

Ha, silly me thinking Clarkson writes her music. So co-wrote half her current album, co-wrote everything on the last, and co-wrote half the one before that.

It's not like anyone can prove otherwise.

You're the one accusing. You need to prove it. I'm sure she co-writes at least four lines per song. Hard to rhyme with three.

So, this is a pop-punk cover song? I'm wondering why I've never heard of this band then.

Definitely not a bad song at all. I never would have known it was a cover though since I hardly know anything by Kelly Clarkson. I see they also made a cover of "I Love College" and man it puts the original to shame. Shit, it actually makes it a good song.

I still think the title is a dead giveaway.

What? Not this again While Kelly Clarkson doesn't own a copyright on this song title, it's just so blatantly named after an extremely popular song with a not-so common song. It's almost like naming a song "American Idiot" or "In The End." I think it's a bad move. On a side note, didn't Clarkson cover two Aranda songs for her latest album? "Whyyawannabringmedown" and something else I think.

The other song is "All I Ever Wanted". Which is also what she titled her album.
I guess all she ever wanted was someone else's songs, BAM!

I still think the title is a dead giveaway. It is. I'm of the belief that anyone who pays this much attention to music in general, let alone "Alternative/Rock" or any specific format, and comes to Pulse to talk about it, oughta know better in the case of a song like this. On a side note, didn't Clarkson cover two Aranda songs for her latest album? "Whyyawannabringmedown" and something else I think. I had completely forgotten that before seeing Aranda the other night. Then this was the last song they played and I thought, "Oh yeah, right." I found it a little self-indulgent for a band with two brothers who named their band after their last name and don't have any interesting album artwork or image to incorporate into a set backdrop, to create one out of their band name with a maximum-contrast black & white action shot of either brother's face above and below the name. But that was just my impression.

I was clicking into the CHR/POP section and noticed "My life would.." on the latest post in here so I had to see if that crap song was charting here...thankfully it's just some mess topic...but their cover is so much better...same with "i love college.."

A cover of I Love College already? Wow. Did not care for the original too much, though only hearing less than five times.
Does this band do covers only or what?

This is like a spoof to me. I hate the original to begin with, but this takes it to a new level of corny.

The rock version is cornier than the pop version? That sounds strange.
