I don't understand why this song is doing so well at all. Maybe because it's like JD's typical production for Usher... or maybe because it's more contemporary but "Knock Knock" was so much better.

This is the type of song Monica got famous for as I have said before.....its a song that young females can relate to. She became popular for grabbing the young female audience with music about relationships that related to them so they could understand. "Why i love u so much" and "before u walk out my life" are perfect examples of songs that are not the generic type of love song, but love songs about real issues and real experiences. U dont hear many females singing songs about holding their man down while they are locked up but I know alot of females who do. As long as Monica can sing songs that relate to real life issues and not the cliche' song ideas she will be fine. Monica relates best to the hood.

I'm not quite getting why it's easier to relate to "Why I Love You So Much" than "Knock Knock". "Why I Love You So Much" is a typical love song. "Knock Knock" is a typical break-up song. People can relate to both. and EVERYONE out their does love songs so this isn't what's keeping Monica at the top.

This song is fine, but I agree that it's success is confusing considering Knock Knock's reception. Personally I don't think the song holds a candle to her older stuff.

God... this becomes Monica's 9th top 10 on the R&B chart and 9th top 30 on the Hot 100, and is gaining as strongly as of right now as it was last week. I'm shocked at the Hot 100 position, I didn't know 39Million on Mediabase could get as high as #27 Hot 100 I MEAN ITS #27 in its 4th week, that's serious upward movement that you only usually see from the biggest hits. "There are those" who think it must be payola. I don't know about that. I mean it would just put this song on equal terms with most others out there, but it seems odd. Payola a third single after the second missed top 20 at R&B/top 50 hot 100? I don't know, but... ...it doesn't matter, Monica has another hit! I'll start a topic ranking her top hits.

Another reason the payola argument doesn't really hold weight is that the Hot 100 is based on audience impressions rather than spins. It's easy to pump up spin totals through payola, but audience is another story.

The board here is positive about it even if they think it's one of her weakest, and the album sales have gone up up up. I wonder now if it won't make top 20 Hot 100? That'd be really really nice.

Why I Love You So Much is my all time favorite Monica song. I still love that song today. She won a Soul train award for that. Or Lady of Soul. I think it was the former though.

I am just overjoyed that Monica is once again in the upper echelons of the hot 100. Thank you Lord!! This is the way to close out this album. Now get in the studio and give us something new for 2005!

This song sounds really good on the radio Yup, which is vital for any single, but this is better than most. May have something to do with it's success; actually I'm sure it does. Plus the good video. Those aren't the only reason for the surprising great success of this, but they're a large part. This has moved to #6 at Urban b/c it's bullet is bigger than the now-#7 "Jesus Walks" but it could switch back and forth between #6 and #7 for the next several days.

This song songs really good on the radio And Knock Knock doesn't. THAT's why that one fared poorly. What's so hard to figure out about that?

they only started playing it here in LA so Im sure it will get a good amount of spins I hope so, she'll need them if she wants to make this more than a smaller sized hit. The spins are holding up well so far, it is STILL 3rd most increased at Urban, and hanging in to the top 20 gainers at the other formats. Audience gain won't be as enormous as it was for last week but it will still be in the +4million neighborhood, which is nice.

i can see this just missing top 10 on the hot 100. It would be nice if she got top 10...it could be possible. But for some reason i see his peaking around 11 or 12.

The bullets went crazy overnight. Not just for Monica, for literally everyone. They all got a lot smaller. However she only fell from 3rd most increased to 4th at Urban, and actually moved from 20th at Rhythmic to 14th, and also went up at Urban A/C. So it's still good.
Latest Mediabase update has her total audience up from 37.531 to 44.302. But at last week's final update she had about 39. Either way her bullet will still be several million, so she'll move further into top 10 at R&B and further toward top 20 at Hot 100. Very nice.

Looks like this may actually end up with a +6million audience gain for this week's Billboard. It held at 4th most increased for Urban (also, Usher and Twista are a breath away from falling behind her, plus she is only 3 spins behind Kanye, so this will be at #4 by the end of the week if modest gains hold), and it moved way up relative to other gainers are Rhythmic (picked up several stations since last week, too) and Urban A/C.
Looks like this won't possibly peak out for at least another week!

Correction: finishes with a +7million bullet to 46million, and overnight moves to #4 at urban with a larger bullet, although it now stands at 5th most increased.

This has moved back to #3 most increased at Urban and is strengthening it's spot at #4. It's currenly -9 spins at U/AC tho, so we'll see how that goes. As for Rhythmic it looks locked in at doing +200, take or give 50.

Somehow the Mediabase cutoff made this bullet to #7 from #8 at R&R, so it'll have a really big bullet for next week to #4 (if not #3, depending). It's currently eased back a little but is still 5th most increased at Urban. At Urban A/C it's swinging wildly between +40s and -20s, so I don't know what's going to happen there. Consistently +150 or so at Rhythmic as it moves into the mid 30s.
Billboard chart update later today, I think it'll be #7 or #8 at R&B and like #24 or so on the Hot 100. -------
Monica was on this week's episode of MTV's Faking the Video and she did an awesome job. Everyone really liked her, she looked awesome, and she did a bit of improvisation that really got everyone going, it was awesome.
My brother told me she was also on Nickelodeon and sang, I believe she sang "U Should've Known Better", and also stuck around to help them pick what cartoons to play, haha. She's such a Nick girl.

"U Should've Known Better" bullets to #9 from #10 at R&B and to #25 from #27 on the Hot 100 despite a hefty 7million bullet. Basically she hit a wall, and was only able to pass a few songs that lost airplay. It's mainly because, even though she's gaining at Rhythmic, she's still only in the lower 30s there, and actually lost some Urban A/C play. If the song holds this weekend, we should see small gains like this again next week. If it drops off this weekend, it may have steady bullets.
