I think the crunk scare is because of her ATL pride.

I think the crunk scare is because of her ATL pride. yea exactly. Seems like everyone from ATL is trying to be crunk and seeing her in Ciaras video really confirmed that for me. I dont think her WHOLE album will be crunk but IF and thats a big IF, Crunk is still popular I wouldnt be surprised if she has a crunk anthem next summer for her 1st single.

She's always been doing the ATL stuff, she was in the "Welcome To Atlanta" video before the third album and it didn't change things. She'll just make the kind of music she's always liked.

Before this topic quiets down for good, I'll ask this here. I know Monica has sold almost 900,000 copies (maybe even slightly over)-- that's actual sales, not units shipped. And of course RIAA does certifications off of units shipped, not sold. So doesn't it seem like at least 100,000 copies more than what has been sold have been shipped? Maybe not... but even so, doesn't that mean as far as units shipped shes VERY close to platinum with this album?

If she SOLD 900,000, then there's no way she hasn't SHIPPED 1,000,000. If it's not Platinum yet, then it's only because her record label for whatever reason hasn't sent in their info to the RIAA.
As for my own opinion of Monica going crunk, I've been a fan since 1995 and if she's goes crunk, for the first time I most likely won't like her material. PLEASE MONICA GO ANOTHER ROUTE!

She was on MTV Hits in August talking about how she doesn't let the direction/sound of music dictate how she makes hers so hopefully she'll stick to that regarding the whole crunk thing.

I saw "After The Storm" in stores with a NEW sticker! It says featuring the #1 "U Should Have Known Better"! :)

Has U Should've Known Better affected her sales at all? This song came out of nowhere over the summer, but I don't recall seeing the album seeing any major rise - at least inside the top 100 of the Billboard Hot 200.

This song came out of nowhere over the summer, but I don't recall seeing the album seeing any major rise - at least inside the top 100 of the Billboard Hot 200. it affected sales MAJORLY-- it went from being in the 80s of the R&B chart and not even on the top 200, to getting back into top 40 R&B and... well i can't remember how high it got on the top 200, but it got well inside the chart. so it went from selling like 2,000 a week to almost 5,000, and that lasted for about 3 months. so you could say the song helped sell 30-40,000 extra copies, which is good.

As big as U SHOULD KNOWN BETTER was, the album should of rose MUCH more than it did. The album still hasn't sold 1 million copies over a year released. That's pathetic! It's the labels fault, WHY THE HECK, did they follow up the #1 Urban single SO GONE with the lamest Monica song KNOCK KNOCK. Plus they didn't even include the album's first single ALL EYEZ ON ME on the album (She made a video for it!!!).

there were legal problems with releasing All Eyez On Me on the album, but trust me that didn't affect sales.
if you think an album should rise more than this album did when it's been out a full year, based off a #6 R&B hit, i don't know what you're smoking. it was a good rise, all things considered.
also "knock knock" is a good song, it just ended up not working as a single.
anyway, time for monica to take some time off and then hit us back with a bigger album.

Yes, "U Should've Known Better" drastically affected sales of "After The Storm" because it had fallen off the Hot 200 and for about 6 weeks this summer Monica actually got up in the 110's on the Hot 200. I think that the album is VERY close to platinum and J Records need to get their stuff together. "U Should've Known Better" was a GREAT way to close the album. Good job Monica.
Question: Do you think that Clive Davis has lost interest in Monica? I don't know, it just didn't seem like he really pushed Monica this time like he did during "TBIM" era.
Do you think Monica could find success at another label, or should she leave good enough alone?

I think J Records is one of the best labels out there and Clive is one of the greatest people you could have controlling your career. But you have to remember, Clive has like 3 different labels and a lot of artists to focus on. Monica's lucky she had the #1 R&R urban hit of 2003. So Clive gave her a hit and then he had other things to promote too. There's only so much any label can do. No one is going to focus 100% on one artist, especially Monica. Anyone who's going to put 100% into an artist would be promoting a new one, not trying to rejuvenate a career.

Anyone who's going to put 100% into an artist would be promoting a new one, not trying to rejuvenate a career. That's definitely true... labels want artists who don't need promotion to do well, that's why they promote so much when they're new, so that they can coast on their own afterward. It's a testament to Monica that she was able to get a hit like this song a year after the album came out and after the label stopped putting any special amount of promotion into her.

Just as a final update, since Monica just got a nomination for female R&B/hip-hop artist of the year:
The song is currently #14 for the year at Urban radio (after "So Gone" being #1 of 2003). There is only one song that has a chance to pass it before January, and that's "My Boo"-- it'll be close, but I think it might do it. However Monica will pass "Tipsy" before then, and MIGHT even pass up "Dirt Off Your Shoulder", making her either #14 or #13 for the year.
Excluding rap or hip-hop songs, that makes "USKB" #7 for the year, after the two Alicia singles, the 3 Usher singles, and "Goodies". #8 if "My Boo" pulls ahead.
It's funny/sad that Brandy, formerly Monica's only big rival, was not even able to make TOP 50 for the year at Urban--- ouch.
