this is back at 3rd most increased for Urban and is closing in on Lloyd Banks; it looks now like a good shot of reaching at least #3. Headed for about a 4million or so bullet for next weeks chart, probably #8 R&B/#23 Hot 100. ----
the bullet at Urban is swinging up again, it's above +300 for the first time in about two weeks, also swung up again some at Rhythmic... hmmmm!

Before my station played it last night, they aired a "New music!" promo. It struck me as funny.

If the album couldn't even sell 50,000 copies from this single, then I doubt it.

I still don't really see another single though, but who knows. It's moved up to +198 at Rhythmic and still above +300 at Urban, although it's not doing as well at UAC.

just a casual update; this more than held up over the weekend, the spins increased across the board and are still doing so this week. it's still 3rd most increased at urban, still in 4th, closing in on lloyd banks and increasing its lead over kanye. it's back to moving up at UAC as it slowly creeps toward top 10. most noteworthy is gains well above 200 now at rhythmic, it's up to #33 there, but will hit a wall once it gets to #31; #31 will be it's peak if it doesn't outperform expectations (for the third time lol). audience is at 52.5Million now, if this keeps up even for another 2 weeks then this will actually be a memorable part of 2004 and monica's career

Ya'll think there will be a 4th single from the album? Even if there was a 4th single, what could they possibly release? There aren't many potential follow-ups if you look at what's left. There's "Don't Gotta Go Home", which could be a likely single, but how receptive will radio be to this? "Breaks My Heart" could make a good release but only for pop considering that Monica has been absent from pop radio since "Angel Of Mine" then I wouldn't put my bet on it. As a last resort, they could either push "Get It Off" to urban or "Knock Knock" to rhythmic. But again, this is unlikely. Since "U Should've Known Better" is doing reasonably well, I see no reason in holding back on another single. Besides, she has nothing to lose and more to gain anyway.

She might gain more flops tho
Anyways, for some odd reason, I had a dream last night it was currently #2 on the Hot100, and has a sure shot of making #1 next week.
I miss Monica seeing at the top 5 of Hot100

So you think there are no good options but she should do it anyway? In any case I'd say you're pretty much wrong across the board. The idea of pushing "Get it off" or "Knock knock" is career suicide, I won't even go into all the problems with that. Only benefit is not having to shoot a video again lol. There were problems with releasing "Don't gotta go home" before, and it's now all but impossible and would also be career suicide with DMX's current situation. "Breaks my heart" is the type of song that used to fly high on the charts and now no one even dares release. It's not a long album, 12 songs, and 5 of those have veen released and I just discredited 2 more as single choices. So what's left? I think she could take a chance with "I wrote this song"; some of the things that make "U should've known better" a hit are also present on "I wrote this song", including the fact that Monica wrote it and connects with the song. People are all about the artist revealing personal stories these days. the other one to chance is "Go to bed mad" with Tyrese, which is actually a great song; the lyrics are clever, their performances are nice, and love duets usually do pretty well. "Ain't gonna cry no more" is nice but doesn't stand out at all, "What hurts the most" is really pretty and is also a potential single but suffers a bit from the same problems as "breaks my heart", and "that's my man" is too far from what people expect of monica. But I think I rather she go back to the studio and bring us another album next winter.

I completely forgot about "I Wrote This Song"!!! :o I honestly think that she should push for a 4th single. But what I meant was that there aren't a lot of choices. Although, I do agree with your picks. "Ain't Gonna Cry No More" sounds like a Brandy-reject to me, which would spell disaster if she tried to release that. I wouldn't mind "Go To Bed Mad" or "I Wrote This Song". I'd prefer the former over the latter.

I just kinda get the feeling that she's wrapped with this album, just riding out the success of the 3rd single, selling some more albums... and then on to the next. But those two songs could perform well I think; "I Wrote This Song" would have the benefit of being about Monica's story, so if they played that up it would help, plus it's not really urban sounding. "Go To Bed Mad" would be her biggest UAC hit from the album.

:o At Urban, Monica has moved up to #3, and is now SECOND most increased with over a +400 bullet; her bullet is also now +275 at Rhythmic and she is up to #31 (as I stated previously she is still about 400 spins from #30 and the songs in #28-#30 are all gaining more than 300, so she will be at #31 for a while). But total audience (Urban AC is back to decreasing a little) is now over 54 million; another week or so of this and Mo' will definitely have her 9th R&B top 5/Hot 100 top 20. Billboard update later today. I have a lot of freetime at the moment so I did some analysis... looks like this will be #23 or #24 on Hot 100... R&B is much harder to determine, it could be anywhere from #7 to #11, but it definitely has a bullet. Just like with "So Gone", this song is being hurt on the charts by the American Idol singles. Unlike "So Gone" though (which was peaking around the time of the singles), this song is still growing a lot. But I'm afraid it needs a real drive forward at Rhythmic to get even to #5 at R&B, although #20 at Hot 100 is possible if it holds on after the Idol singles have fallen way down.

Steady bullet at #9 for R&B (Fantasia moved up to #12 from #99), bullet to #24 from #25 on the Hot 100.
The problem is that there are a lot of big rap songs out there right now, which are getting way more Rhythmic play (and Billboard probably DOES count Rhythmic too much). "Lean Back" has now passed Monica on both Billboard charts, "On Fire" is still ahead of her, "Jesus Walks" is ahead, and "Slow Motion" is ahead. Unless she outlasts them or gets into the 20-30 million audience range at Rhythmic, she won't advance her chart position more than a few spots.

Another single is a bad idea. Her second and third single did not do that well. The fourth single was a surprise hit. That means a fifth single is not a guaranteed hit. She's much better off taking this album out with a hit. I thought she was only going to get one hit with this album and she proved me wrong after two consecutive flops. So she should definitely wrap it up. If she HAD to release another, I'd go with either "Don't Gotta Go Home" or "Go To Bed Mad". "I Wrote This Song" would a disaster. That song is too pop for urban radio and it's way too late to get CHR/Pop to embrace her with this album.

I would release "Don't Gotta Go Home" next and "Hurts The Most" or "Breaks My Heart" afterwards. New Monica!

That song is too pop for urban radio and it's way too late to get CHR/Pop to embrace her with this album. I agree, I mean there's the whole idea of riding on coattails of success, getting it while it's hot, etc. etc. but that doesn't seem to apply here (although I disagree with calling this a 4th single, if only b/c "Get it off" did not have it's own video, wasn't promoted, and was released day-and-date with "knock knock"--- which by the way, #24 R&B isn't a flop, it's just not a hit ).... I don't see why Pop would pick her up with a new single, if they're not picking up the current one. "Don't gotta go home" won't work, not with the DMX situation now. "Go to bed mad" i think could work, but it's not worth it. You hear that, Mo?? as for "Breaks my heart", she already toyed with the idea of releasing that 2 years ago. I see no reason to change her decision.

"hurts the most" is a good song. It reminds me of "u shoulda known better" so i think it may be too similar to release as a single. "dont gotta go home" would be a good choice but DMX and his legal problem would stop that from happening. The song with Tyreese would probably do well. "Breaks my heart" has always been one of my favorites from the album but I dont think it would do well. With that being said, I think she needs to hit the studio and come back next summer with Stronger material that has some guaranteed hits on it. Anything off this album would be taking a chance and she doesnt need to do this since she got a surprise hit.

She can always try rereleasing "Too Hood" or "All Eyez On Me" (repackage her album?). They might be better the second time around!

i like this song alot.. it's slow, and kinda sleepy- & i think that might be the reason some people dislike it... but her vocals are AMAZING :o and i doubt anyone could sing it any better... her style, her grace, her charisma, her beauty is irreplacable :) thumbs up

I've also heard people call the song "sleepy", but I think that is why it has been such a steady gainer, which is a good thing. And as always the vocals are on point and very stylized.

Maybe it's a hit because a lot of people in prison are requesting the song if and when they're allowed phone calls!

What this song really needs to do is boost her album sales some more. If she re-enters the top 100 and manages to get Platinum out of this, then she's saved the project really. Sadly, neither really look like happening.

Anywhere from 100,000 to 150,000 sales can be contributed to this single once all is said and done, barring any huge unforeseen increase, which isn't bad. At least it's now within range of going platinum at a later date.

Monica heads into the weekend with a very strong +422 Urban (2nd most)/+281 Rhythmic (15th most) bullet, her second best week yet, for both of those formats. If it holds she'll be well on her way to making top 20 on the Hot 100.
