They won't let Queen Mary be. lol.
I hope sometime in the future Solange drops a remix to "Borderline" with additional verses from Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed. That song has a strong ATCQ/Ummah vibe.

Debuts at #1.
A Seat at the Table launches with 72,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 6, according to Nielsen Music -- a stronger-than-expected start. Of that sum, 46,000 were in traditional album sales. Bon Iver’s 22, A Million, bows at No. 2 with 71,000 units (58,000 in traditional album sales).

Wow, never thought this would turn out to be that big of a success. I honestly prefer her sophomore over this one, but anyway congrats Solange!

Now "Junie" is beating the playback button to death. Whoever is on the background vocals is giving me life. I want to say Tweet but she's not credited on that song. If it's Solange harmonizing with herself I would be floored because it's so lushes.

Since she credited "additional vocals" everyone else, I assumed it was all her, which made me love her even more.

Right now I'm obsessed with Weary. Some of those background vocals remind me of Aaliyah.

I run back to "Cranes" and "Hair" a lot. I need to do another session with the album playing through soon.

I'm playing the hell out of "Where Do We Go", "Mad", "Borderline..", and "Cranes in the Sky", plus the interludes.

I feel like if baby girl was still w us, she would have released something along these lines sonically. TBH, this was the kind of album and kind of sound I've been missing for a long time from R&B. So proud of Solange.

CITS debuts at #74 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her first entry.
DTMH also debuts at #91.

I needed a live version of "Cranes in the Sky" like yesterday. The way she layers those vocals has me in a mood every time I listen to it. I went into this album initially wanting something as bombastic as her last two releases and realized that I was clearly sleeping because this a 9.5/10 bordering on a perfect 10. The interludes with Master P dropping straight knowledge are informing and necessary.

I can't wait for this. She could do any song from the album and I would be pleased.

The way I see it as Solange and Adele should be fighting over the AOTY trophy. With Adele's success with 25, she is more than deserving of the award and Solange's album is just perfection met with perfection.

You know Bey and Sol are going to be fighting over that AOTY trophy. I do wonder if they actually submitted Solange for the Grammys. I think she at least deserves R&B album of the year but I gotta give AOTY to Bey. She's been pushing herself more than ever in the past five years to become an icon and I think w Lemonade she's finally cemented that. It would be amazing to see both sisters win top honors. Love Adele but 25 doesn't stack up for me. But she deserves song and record of the year hands down.

I lean towards Lemonade if it ever came down to a competition between these two. Both are very dynamic albums, with very different approaches. I just get more replay out of Lemonade as a whole than I do this one.
As for Adele. She's not even close to either of these albums in terms of quality. Although I'm sure she'll swoop in and snatch the award anyway.

If Bey and Solange were to both land in the AOTY category they would probably split votes, allowing Adele or David Bowie (I'm assuming both of them will be nominated) to win. That said, I'd be a bit surprised to see Solange get into AOTY because the album was released so close to the cutoff; it wasn't like it was an initially hyped release, so I'm not sure she's had enough time to build up the buzz beyond the r&b voters. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised, though. If nothing else, I definitely want/expect to see Cranes In the Sky nominated for something. It would be awesome if Solange won R&B album and Beyonce won urban contemporary album in the same year.

The 2nd cut off date for first round of nominees is around the first week of November and the final nominations are in mid January. She would have had plenty of time for the committee to vote her in for AOTY. This is based off of whether they submitted the album at all though.

Actually, on the very first listen to the album, I was so put off by the interludes that I deleted the album... Then, I don't recall why and how, I give it a try without them and ... love it et toq!

KILLED "Cranes In The Sky". I love how they rearranged it and added the sax. Gorgeous.
