I think people were too hard on Queen Latifah too. She was a little shaky from nerves I bet, but she was on key. She has a pretty tone to her voice. I thought she was fine. She definitely wasn't on key at first, but you can see her take her earpiece out almost immediately, so she couldn't hear herself. I felt bad for her. She got better, but it was shaky. It's funny how much people are obsessing about that one note. That wasn't the weakest part of the performance, for me, but watching it again, she definitely did fine. Kudos to her for singing live, and that's probably what people will remember. The media has treated her verrrry kindly, so I'm happy. I guess her singing live was enough for praise? The rehearsal was incredible, so I'm really disappointed, but at least we have the rehearsal!

I'm a proud American after that, really! I don't care about any bum note at the end...she did it live! The party I'm at, everyone was standing and cheering. My mom was even crying...lol

Weird. iTunes still has that ad up, where Play On and Carrie's other albums are $7.99. However, Play On is actually priced $10.99 now while Some Hearts is $9.99. Only CR has remained $7.99.
So I guess Carrie's on her way to Hawaii now? Hella work gig :)

She mentioned in a blog she had some recording to do and someone at CFans saw a tweet and something on CMT Insider saying Carrie would take part in a recording for Haiti with Rickey Martin. So I assume she has that, the movie, and rehearsal. This woman is busy as HELL. Plus, she's got her wedding plans to do.

Carrie singing the NA live considering the logistics involved was very brave. I'm shocked that they allowed her to do it. I swear that someone was communicating to her about the timing of the fireworks and the fly over while she was singing. It seemed like she slowed it down as to get the timing correct. That is freaking crazy. I would of folded like a cheap suit under that kind of pressure. I think the praise coming from the national outlets is because they know what is involved when a singer decides to do it live and Carrie more than held her own.

I wonder if an appearance such as this, with over 200 million people watching there at the stadium and on television, if her album sales will increase.
Her version of the National Anthem was beyond impressive. That "last note" is so hard to catch. I've rewatched the video 3 times and still can't hear her being "off". Just an all around talented and amazing vocalist. I'm so glad for all the positive reviews and attention she's getting. I so hope it turns into album sales for her.

Guys/Gals,
I think we've become beyond spoiled here. I watched the game with some friends who are not Carrie fans at all. They were beyond blown away with the "Free" note and nobody mentioned the last note. I think we've just become way to picky or too senstive because when I listened live I didn't hear anything bad with that last note. Even now listening to it, to me you really have to listen closely to find something wrong with it.
A better way to look at this National Anthem is to ask teh following question? How many singers could have hit that "Free" note. I think the answer is less than 5!
Stress the positive not the negative.

i really think carrie hitting those high notes give little doubt as to whether she sang it live or not. those high notes are hard to lip-sync, imo. and if she was indeed lipsynching, then kudos to her!

yeah because if she was lip syncing, they would have used the flawless version she recorded yesterday at rehearsals. This version was incredible, but it was not flawless...so that is how you know it was live.
Queen Latifah was also singing live, because her voice shook a few times.

Got stuck at work and missed the NA live. Just downloaded and watched Vinmans cap. I thought it was great. I think alot on the lines of Jeff, in that once one person started dissing the last note, it just spread. Twitter really is more a pain in the ***, than a good thing I think. jmo. Anyway, I thought Carrie was amazing. Live, accapella, the super bowl, millions watching and still nailed it. Impressive.
By the way, Vinman you are much appreciated. Thanks for the cap!

I loved the performance and I just feel so proud of Carrie for being such a remarkable professional. She always gives her BEST and that's something to be proud of. When I read about that last note I was also expect some big mess up, but it wasn't even really noticeable because there was a lot going on at the end of the performance. I must confess, though, as a fan who has followed Carrie's work for a long time, that it really pisses me off to read over Twitter and Youtube some stupid people calling her a "pitchy" singer. That's just... absurd! lol

I wonder what this pic was about lol. Well, I heard that she was screaming in the tunnels of the Superdome so she was probably on a high! I couldn't imagine doing what she did tonight..unbelievable! Thx Vinman! Is that the coach of the Saints??

Pretty gutsy singing the anthem live and at the Superbowl no less. There is SO much room for error. Sounded to me like there was a little reverb or something on that last note but what do I know.Overall I thought it was a pretty terrific rendition of the anthem.

That's exactly what I heard, Hoosy. It wasn't off pitch. There was some kind of electronic glitch. It sounded like an echo or feedback to me. If you listen closely you can hear Carrie hit the note and then something else comes in a split second later.

Thx Vinman! Is that the coach of the Saints?? yes that is Sean Payton. Maybe he is telling Carrie he heard why she is supporting his team and said he is bringing the entire Saints organization to her next concert in NO. lol edit: Carrie blogged. interesting comment about now understanding why people would pre record.

This girl just has the best attitude and out look on life. I thought the anthem was great, but her attitude about it is even better.

We're so used to not having anything at all to criticize, so it seems the very first time we hear Carrie even slightly off, people jump all over it. Overall it was a wonderful performance, and I'm glad to see 99% of the media agree with me.
