I'm just not getting why it's so upsetting that this album isn't saturated in cheesy love songs. I'd rather have songs he can actually relate to. We're probably going to be getting 2-3 anyway, which is plenty considering every single song on the first album (save maybe Angels & Desperate) was about love in some way. The fact that David has never actually been in a relationship before makes me not want love songs as much anyway. I would rather him sing about something he can relate to then random crap written by someone else that any other teenage male could be singing just to get his fangirls to scream more. Reread my post. He doesn't have to be in a relationship. He just has to want one--like most guys his age--and most young people 19 and older. What he's doing now doesn't excite musically or otherwise--not even to show off his voice. What has he got to teach the world about life anyhow? He's hardly lived it. He needs to lay off the messages and platitudes and start digging deeper, cutting a little closer to the bone. praepos - I understand your points and it's similar to how I feel. (so that's a big two of us) I'm hoping it will work out well for him but also hoping it's just a phase related to his book and/or to his music as his mission since I think Mormon guys his age are supposed to suppress romantic feelings until they finish their mission. Back when he started this album he said he liked love songs that create a picture and leave the rest up to the listeners' imaginations, but it remains to be seen what love songs beyond PANDA emerge for this album, as well whether anything will showcase his soul and more of his previous vocal styling. I'm positive there are many more than the two of us who feel this way and are disappointed generally. My question is why is David aspiring to be a pop celebrity-singer in the first place if not to showcase the gift God gave him? Why hide his gift under a bushel? He seems to enjoy the adulation of young girls. Why not give them something more to scream about besides his quirkiness and moral rectitude? Let's hear the vocals, the passion, the soulfulness. That's what great pop music is all about. That's one way to look at it. But how does lecturing others by way of song translate into successful pop music?

Good heavens. Lectures? The stuff I've heard has been encouraging and has fit within the theme of 'looking up, moving on' but nothing has bordered on a lecture. With so much of what's out there today being about random hooking up, I am liking this song list. I think the love songs will be present on the CD, and I think that when I do hear one, I'm going to love it. I like his idea of how love should work.

Nobody's expecting him to randomly hook up in songs.
couple of interesting items:
Eman was working w/ Luis Fonsi and tweeted today: EmanuelKiriakou: Forgot to mention yesterday that @luisfonsi is a huge @davidarchie fan. I know that David feels the same way about Luis. #time4aduet
Joelle David from the Netherlands re a show similar to American Idol Davisturbia: David Archuleta - Something 'Bout Love was background music @ the new Dutch tvshow: The Voice of Holland! Finally Archie in Holland! Love 'm

^^ No idea yet. Haven't heard anything, although David's website isn't very good about announcing promotion and appearances. And talk shows generally announce line-ups about a week in advance. Not sure about other stuff. He was in LA just recently for something, and that may have been to work out some stuff in that regard.

I'm not sure everyone here understands the difference between a "cohesive album" and a "one note album." From what we've ACTUALLY heard, this is sounding like a "one note album."

soundUPsceneDOWN, where's your icon from? he looks sort of not himself there lol
What's with this idea that love songs have to be cheesy? lol There loads of love songs and they def don't have to be cheesy. I hope he has a good number of love songs tbh. or at least about feelings and about people. his theme so far has been pretty much the same, and honestly, an album full of inspirational songs is just blah to me. lol
I'm not ready to call it a one note album yet, but I have to agree. I don't see how singing the same theme just with different words makes it a cohesive album. But we'll only know that when we listen to the whole thing.

^^ lol yeah, he doesn't look like himself. I chose it because I thought he looked funny. It's one of the promo pictures from his album photoshoot.
On the topic of the moment -- I don't see how the album is one-note, since the songs we've heard so far have been musically different from each other. Having the same theme through more than one song just relates to the lyrical content. Musically, "The Other Side of Down" sounds different than "Something 'Bout Love" and "Stomping The Roses," and those in turn sound different from each other. But not SO different than you can't tell it's the same artist, with a certain style.
I think all people were saying is that David is trying for a cohesive album - nobody has heard the whole album to say for certain if he's accomplished it. So far it sounds a lot more cohesive than his first album, which was truly just a collection of potential singles (or what Jive thought were potential singles).

LOL thanks. He does look funny. I like what he's been doing to his hair lately. Much better than before.
Well, at this point it's difficult to have an idea of how the whole album will sound like. I just can't wait for more clips and then listen to the whole thing. It will probably be available for stream a week before, no?

EmanuelKirakou:
To the @davidarchie fans who are asking: I have 2 songs "Falling Stars" and "Complain" on David's record. FS is not really a ballad..
Falling Stars starts as a ballad but with a lot of motion. When the drums come in it's up-tempo..
If I must say, Falling Stars is best song on David's record. Labels get things wrong sometimes as do artists and as do producers..

Changes to David's Amazon artist page including a very new bio (click read more under the Bio on the right) - besides bio, talks about the theme of the album, and about a number of songs. also about his musical inspirations. Definitely 3rd person write-up, maybe the agent. www.amazon.com/David-Archuleta/e/B001LHAKXS/ref=ac_dpt_sa_bioExcerpt: Of course, with inspiration comes aspiration and David isn’t lacking in that department, either. He aspires to find everlasting love in the ballad “My Kind of Perfect,” assured that his time will eventually come but wondering when. “It’s about waiting and knowing that they don’t have to be perfect, they just have to be my kind of perfect,” he explains. And going beyond his world to address the harsh reality of war and natural disasters, David offers the hopeful “Things Are Gonna Get Better.” “It’s what people need to hear right now,” he says. Videos - ZHT Patio Party (Utah) TAGGB - lyrics sound a bit different than on telethon www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJQMURqtcGYSBL www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozHMkfDd3X4Elevator www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjBvVUX6hHUI think the other 2 he did were Crush and Thousand Miles -------- SBL at Mix 107.9 - by the photographer who also said: "David Archuleta's private concert was awesome! That kid has talent." Not a great video but the audio sounds good www.youtube.com/watch?v=-k1AzWfLKxw--------------- NEW!!!!! TOSOD preview part 3 w/ Who I Am and Falling Stars! Two more clips from the album. Who I Am - about a 2-hour cab ride, where he was looking out the window and seeing all these people in their own little worlds www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJRFle685wQFalling Stars - one of the Eman/Dave Hodges/Claude Kelly tracks; Eman wanted him to sound more masculine, less vibrato, because the song itself is very "pretty"; David says it wound up giving the song more oomph. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcHa0K30ywI

They sound really nice! Interesting how he says in the full video that he decided it was ok to have one song on the album that wasn't about him and was just a great song. (Falling Stars). Also interesting how Eman didn't want David to sing it like himself. The beginning of the Who I Am clip reminds me of some Taylor Swift melody? (similarly, Elevator goes up, elevator goes down reminds me of TI's line Gonna be a shinin' star except with the high notes swapped) BTW Youtube of the whole preview w/ David's explanations --- And some tweets from Todd and Erin of B98.7 in SLC re David's Studio B private performance Finished our private concert with David Archuleta--he is as sweet and charming as you think he is. What a VOICE! It just pours out of him. @munkfod Seriously, in 20 years of radio, I've only had five artists be willing to sing live like that, no backing track nothing. Beautiful ---- And here are some B98.7 videos - Interview 4 cracked me up www.youtube.com/user/15263457689#p/u/3/tM5nx-n5qFM

Yeah, the chorus of Who I Am sounds kind of like Taylor Swift's You Belong With Me, I think. Falling Stars sounds great. I can't believe it's already near the release date! I can't wait to listen to it.

I like your avatar Rurry - I love that video. Whenever David gives girl advice in a teen mag about how the girl has to give the guy space and let him enjoy his hobbies and not say "You're not spending enough time with me" I think about that video hahaha MenoxMusic (a Billboard reviewer?) tweeted about liking Elevator and linked a Youtube, and tweeted about liking Who I Am and linked to the OS. (a frogcooke find) And ooo - look what jambajim (Jim Cantiello of MTV) got today - his own early TOSOD!!! twitpic.com/2qzr2b

Some extra chat from B98.7 and a gorgeous Thousand Miles The beginning discusses his increased control with this album and how now he has a clear picture of what he wants to do with his next album (I get the impression that will be more of the same good messages and about himself stuff) www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzI2C3FABXY

So far his approach seems more bullheaded than inspired. He doesn't seem to understand his own talent.

praepos - I was thinking the same thing. If he's doing inspirational/motivational stuff then where is the voice that can make people cry? He could slay people with something really moving or really uplifting but instead he says TAGGB (which even he thinks is cheesy in the choruses) is "what people need to hear right now".
We haven't heard a lot of the album but some of these songs don't channel emotion at all for me. He knows he can do that.

idol chatter interview, ydtalk.com/chatter/?p=654heres a few snippets about the album from it(you arent supposed to repost the entire interview, read the rest at the link) So there you go. He intentionally didnt want to get too serious or deep with things on the album.
