There are many idols that continue to have a career and continue to make music. Maybe they aren't talked about a lot because they aren't the most successful but they are continuing to do what they love. That is what I want for David. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens in 2011. I agree with you. I don't think he's interested in becoming the next Jesse McCartney, sry2say. I see him being more of a HAC-ish artist. I could see him taking a path similar to A Fine Frenzy (who he stated as one of his influences for TOSOD). He actually could've had a successful era on HAC, Elevator even got a handful of spins there without an adds date, but of course Jive sat around and did nothing so it didn't happen. He needs, first and foremost, a new label. Although I've heard Jive is going through a lot of changes right now, which could account to the suckiness of them in general right now. But still, there's no excuse for how David was treated by them this era. They could've gotten him some decent success easily with this album but they chose to be lazy and not do anything. At least his management seems to be stepping up to the plate. I don't think it's a coincidence that he got his biggest TV appearence in quite a long time just as he had a turnover in management. On another note, he did great on the NYE special! Really happy with those performances.

I thought he sounded horrible on the NYE special last night, but I thought the song was actually really good; it had hit potential. My sister agreed and has actually downloaded the song and has been apparently playing it non-stop. Not bad, Archie!

Yeah TOSOD is a great song. They should've at least tried it on HAC or something.

I too don't get why Jive decided to treat David the way they did. Its not like he hadn't been successful for them before. His A&R person just resigned. I can see him not being focused on David if he had being making plans to leave for awhile.
I also agree that David could have done well on HAC. I don't know why they have never pushed him on that format. I would think its wise to have another format if Pop won't play your music. That is why Cook's album continued to sell. When he did poorly on Pop, he still had HAC. I never understood why they took away the HAC add's date for ALTNOY. I don't know how it would have done on HAC. I think the video was great though. I definitely think it would have sold the song if it was played on VH1. We would have voted it very high and people would have seen it. Does Jive have a lot of contacts at HAC?
Yeah he looked and sounded great on the NYE special. He really showed how much he has grown as a performer. There were a lot of positive tweets about him. I do think he probably should have sang SBL instead of Elevator. Even Stomping the Roses or Look Around would have been a good choice.

David's a good kid--but he's obstinate. He insists on doing Elevator--which does nothing to showcase his voice. Falsetto's not his thing--so why keep pushing it? As for Jive--the strategy to make him a tween heartthrob has failed. It apparently had no Plan B. Not that it matters. The album's concept was all wrong--and so was its execution.
One thing and one thing only that David has going for him--his voice. He needs to stop doing what undermines that part of his reputation. It's what will keep him in the game despite his setbacks--once Jive figures out what it wants to do with him in terms of the next album. Right now David is part of the problem though.

TOSOD a real good song and I thought David sounded great especially considering the temperature was in the 20's. Before he performed he tweeted about how cold he was. And I really liked the way David was moving on stage. He's looked great and sounded great as the only live artist who did anything challenging vocally in that cold, no autotune, no prerecorded. In a couple of spots it sounds like he was shivering a bit but he hit all of his notes, changed it up a it. I saw nothing but good comments on twitter. One guy who may be a Jamaican singer (same unusual name anyway) said David was the best act in the show. ---- And new - Jlo mentions David in Entertainment Weekly mjsbigblog.com/american-idol-judges-discuss-the-new-season-in-ew.htmAlso, Jennifer Lopez namechecks David Archuleta. She says, “I think it’s about exciting performances. One of my favorite moments ever on Idol was not a big-voice moment but a beautiful-song moment, which was David Archuleta singing “Imagine.” That was something I’ll never forget for the rest of my life, that little kid at that little age taking that classic song and singing it in such a way that it changed my everything, like Steven loves to say all the time. That’s what we need to focus on getting: not big voices, not singer-songwriters, just what makes us feel something. I think that is gonna be what makes people come back every week.”

I finally found a copy of the album and I gotta say I actually quite like it, I've also listened to his first album and hated that one. Stomping The Roses and The Other Side Of Down are my two favorites.

Dunno - I wish they would try the title track, or Falling Stars for real BTW all - David is headed to India for World Leprosy Day (along with a filmmaker, photographer, and others) to visit with the kids at Rising Star Outreach school (a charity-run school for the children of lepers). David and his fans have been supporting this charity for a while and helped send a dental team there as well as build a sewer, complete a school, and build a brick pathway. angelsforacause.ning.com/profiles/blogs/david-archuleta-to-visit-indiaEDIT - he is now back and hoping to do a Ustream chat next week to answer more questions about India Slides of his trip. Very moving.

But really how can they promote something that didn't get sales or radio airplay. That's a Jive thing imo.

Yea... that doesn't surprise me. They mess up his eras, then leave him like if it's solely his fault.

Can't say I'm surprised either. I wish David the best and cannot wait for the next era. A fan also asked Melinda this: archuletaeurope: @wegmusic and @melindaweg what happened with @davidarchie? David's fans are worried about him, his discography, his tour... and Melinda wrote: @archuletaeurope he doesn't know a good thing when he sees it I guess Uncalled for, IMO. I'm glad she's gone tbh.

I don't see this as a bad thing. He needed to shake things up. He's made some poor decisions, music-wise, mainly because he had nothing to say about life or love but insisted on saying it anyway--without showcasing his voice at all. Which means he needs to understand his talent better and how it interfaces with fans. For two years now he's been living inside a whirlwind. More than anything he needs to take time off to live a little, find out what it's all about. The voice will still be there--bigger and better than ever--and so will the indelible, lasting impression he made during season 7. I see this as a very positive time for him--a time for maturing and deepening as an artist. David's voice will still be filling theaters with fans ten, twenty, thirty years from now.

Jive didn't do David any favors. Since day one the label never really "got" David, so it was a bad partnership. Besides this, David himself didn't understand his own strengths as a vocalist. He kept wanting to send out moral messages to kids, even turning to vocal gimickry. Meanwhile Jive wanted to make him into Justin Bieber. Both sides were wrong. So I'm happy about this breakup. Sure it's scary for him--but even scarier was the route he was taking. David is too smart to continue down that road.

I hardly keep up with David but just seeing the recent comments above from Melinda, I have to say with friends like that who needs enemies? 'Good thing' my ass, she is clearly a beeyotch and David is much better off without that poisonous kind of attitude around him. /random rant
Anyway, I really do wish him the best, whatever he decides to do. He has enough fans that he could continue if he found a small independent label, but on the other hand it might be best if stepped away from the industry for a while and figured something things out for and about himself.

I am a believer that things happen for a reason. I'm sure he will land on his feet once he figures things out. It's not like he's going to stop singing or releasing music it just depends on what scale.

It will be a mess for his websites - Jive/Sony run everything - the Facebook, MySpace, official site. I use the term "run" lightly because they sucked at running them. They almost never updated events - once he had a tour and Events listed nothing. They left the Christmas info up until long after info and photo of the 3rd album was available. His bio on MySpace was so old it said he was about to release his first album.

Wow, poor kid. I hope he lands on his feet and find himself in the musical direction he wants to go in. My guess is Sony is cleaning house with Idols now that they have no incentive to invest in some of them. It won't matter who is coming out with their next album they won't promote it. Some fans think just because an album is being released it means they will go out of their way to promote it. Nope, they will let it go down the toilet.
Here’s what David’s family friend/former writer Richard had to say about the matter:
Richard says: February 18, 2011 at 5:24 pm
You are all welcome. Sorry I have not been around much. We have been very, very busy trying to keep our train rolling. I have had over 65 co-writers in my studio since the first of the year and have probably close to 100 songs either finished or in the works.
This is a hard time for everyone that cares about David and his career. But, this will soon pass. My guess is that he won’t be out of sight for very long.
And Nancy, I understand why you would feel that way. I can’t tell you how many conversations I have had with folks in the industry about how they wouldn’t know what to do with David. So incredibly talented, but he just doesn’t fit the profile of what most labels are promoting. I believe whole heartedly that Jive recognized his talent and honestly gave it their best shot to do what they could. Maybe they just finally recognized that it really wasn’t the fit thy knew it needed to be. Glove, mitten, mitten, glove…. I don’t know.
David is kind of an anomaly to the industry. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. I think it’s amazing how you have never seen him compromise his values. I don’t think he was ever asked to out of respect of them knowing who he was. They tried. It’s now time to try something else. Nothing to be ashamed of at all.

What was so tough for Jive to figure out? Look at the songs that show David at his best--when he slammed it out of the park. None of them sounded like what he did in his latest album--nor were they aimed at little kids. Add to that the fact that he got in the way of his own voice and you see the problem. David can move people deeply--grownups especially--when he sings the right songs--but he needs to sing what people can relate to.

Noo.. :'( >:( this is so sad. I think, Jive shouldnt do that, David has so much potential, he just needs better productions. But anyway I hope he continues making music.See, Bruno Mars a super talented artist but he was dropped from Motown and see him now topping the charts. Another example of artists without labels, is Pitbull,he is an independent artist and he is so popular with his music. So, cheer up Archie! and good luck! :) :)

Such a shame to see someone so talented dropped. Maybe he'll be picked up by someone who appreciates him more. He'll always have a strong core fan base I think :)
