They could very well get a third consecutive Top Ten hit with this release, despite their album sales being unspectacular.
Sincerely, Lisping Hibiscus

"Back Against the Wall" was a gamble that paid off, so I don't see why this (as another change of tempo from the previous single) wouldn't do quite well itself.

This sounds like a remade version of "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" to me, which probably means it'll do very well. The current overachievers on Alternative radio.

I disagree with both. Vampire Weekend did modestly at best on radio and it's not like Phoenix were an overnight success, either. They've been making albums throughout the last decade.

I'm loving Pheonix now, and Vampire Weekend isnt bad, Cousins is just overrated. Cage The Elephant is just very unappealing to me, and I've tried really hard to get into both singles so far

Great choice. Best song on the album, and probably the most radio-friendly as well.

I disagree with both. Vampire Weekend did modestly at best on radio and it's not like Phoenix were an overnight success, either. They've been making albums throughout the last decade. Well I don't mind Phoenix, in fact I like their new single, but I don't think the fact that they've been at it for years changes whether they're overachieving or not. They're not bad, I just couldn't believe "1901" did as well as it did. It definitely overachieved in my book, anyway. As for Vampire Weekend, they're just one of those bands I can't get into. I don't even find their stuff that catchy...I guess I meant they're overachieving more in the grand scheme. Number one on the Billboard 200? Never saw it coming. Cage the Elephant has done nothing but put out quality material this era, and this song is no exception. I'm very happy that their first two singles did so well, and hopefully this one can follow suit.

I didn't like "1901" at first, but it's become one of my favorite current songs over the last few months and I like "Lisztomania" now as well. So, Phoenix gets a thumbs up in my book.
Vampire Weekend, I've just never gotten into at all and every song I've heard seems almost horrible to me.
Cage The Elephant has become one of my favorite new bands from last year with their two singles. I haven't heard this yet, but I think I'm going to give their album a listen.

I like this better than Back Against the Wall. It's not as instantly catchy as Ain't No Rest For The Wicked, but it is a good song. I dig the Stones-esque rock revival.

Also, the album has sold 254,021 copies as of March 8. Not bad for a debut band in a failing market.

And are you going to say the same thing to my Muse post or is that one safe? *crosses fingers*

Right, so as far as mediabase archives go, it debuted in the top 50 this week because this is the first Sunday it was inside the top 50. Granted, I think the standard we've set up is that we just post whenever it enters a certain region of the chart and don't worry about 'official-ness' so my post was unnecessary, but it doesn't hurt to have an archive of when it officially went top 50.

I guess, though you could argue considering that it just entered the top 50 on alternative today, that its debut on active a couple weeks ago was well ahead of schedule. We'll see.

I feel like Vampire Weekend has more detractors than fans at this point. I suppose that you could argue this to be true for any successful act, but it's almost as if it's become trendy to hate VW. and a lot of the reasons people give for disliking them are just silly. Not that I'm suggesting that anybody on this board is trend-hopping - I'm just making a general observation of the broad scheme of things.
As far as Cage The Elephant goes, I don't think they're awesome or anything, but I also think there have been many far less deserving bands that saw success in recent years. Same goes for Crash Kings and Phoenix for that matter. At least they're doing something other than rehashing the same old post-grunge and pop-punk sounds.
There is one indie-leaning band whose success eludes me. I just fail to see anything that appealing about Kings of Leon. "Sex On Fire" was catchy enough, but other than that, their music just seems so blah to me.

I broke down and bought this album yesterday. I don't see why this couldn't reach Top 10 if Back Against The Wall hit #1.
