LADY A GETS ANOTHER WEEK Cash Money/Universal Motown’s Lil Wayne Rock Album Is Top Debut February 3, 2010In a week that should be full of sales spikes from the best-watched Grammy show in six years, Capitol Nashville’s Lady Antebellum should return to the top of the HITS album chart next week after scoring 485k in sales in a chart-topping debut. That’s based on one-day sales reports from those retailers who have not resorted to selling discs from the trunk of their car. Cash Money/ Universal Motown’s Lil Wayne long-awaited rock album, Rebirth, hit yesterday, and looks on track for between 140-150k in first-week sales as he prepares to be imprisoned for a year on gun possession charges. Needless to say, his last album, 2008’s Tha Carter III debuted with one million sales in its first week. He appears on the cover of the current issue of Rolling Stone. Hollywood’s Nick Jonas & the Administration will debut between 80-85k for their debut, Who I Am, with a deluxe edition featuring videos on sale exclusively at Target and iTunes. Rob Zombie’s Hellbilly Deluxe II, the sequel to his 1998 album, and first for Loud & Proud/ Roadrunner, should sell in the 35-40k range. The album’s subtitle is Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls and the Systematic Dehumanization of Cool. The market was up 11% vs. last week, flat against the same week last year and now down 5% year to date. You may now start preparing a cake with a file inside to send to Weezy. Hits News

That's a pretty low estimate for Rob Zombie. His last album cracked six figures in its opening week. Hope the actual numbers are a good deal higher.

DAMN at wayne! i was thinking like 250k, but at least this will teach him to NEVER make a rock album again. this will probably be his 1st album to not sell 500k.

Ouch @ Wayne and the Jonas kid.
Nice for Lady A.
Quite surprising that they're not making predictions for Taylor, Beyoncé, Jay-Z and GaGa who should get a bump thanks to the Grammy's wins. Also, would be interesting to see how much P!nk sells.

Wayne should have just made Rebirth a download EP after all the drama and delays. He would actually have been better releasing a full length Carter album before his sentence like T.I. At least his singles would have caught on more like T.I.

Eh, he should have been at least close-ish to his 2005 opening week of 239k, with an album with one hit peaking at #32. This album has 2 T20 hits...

no offense, but it's different. wayne has a very strong hip-hop following, so after C1 (which was very successful for him both critically and commercially) there was a lot of hype. C2 was also a very good album with strong radio support where it mattered (the south). Rebirth has had "hits" but ONLY because of his download-loving base. back in 2005, digital sales were not nearly as important as they are now, so the fact that he has top 20 singles from Rebirth really means nothing relative to his top 20 singles from, say, C1.

Why are people shrieking over Wayne's numbers? This album is a totally different genre and thus doesn't cater to his core fanbase. 150k is quite good in my eyes.

Yea, Wayne's numbers are solid considering the album has gotten poor reviews, it has no hit single or gotten any radio airplay, and also the album's been leaked for month and a half. Whoever did buy it is stupid as hell though.

A lot of albums have gotten poor reviews; That didn't stop them from selling. I agree with the person who said that this album isn't geared to the people who would normally buy a LiL Wayne album, so that is a plausible explanation to his huge first week drop off in sales.

'Knockout' is the only remaining single left that could be released from that album. It could do well on CHR. Its just too unlike Wayne though and sounds more like a parody of pop-punk music than anything else.

YOUR SUPER BOWL WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW: Lady Antebellum will hold on to the #1 spot for a second week with a total that may approach 200k, while Grammy winners and performers (Lady A among them) will dominate the leader board next week, as the Grammy spike once again takes effect. Taylor Swift, whose Fearless won Album of the Year, should finish the week with an increase of 85-90%. While this is less than previous Album of the Year winners, it should be noted that Fearless has already sold 5.5m copies. The projected totals on Grammy-affected LPs are followed by percentage increases—but bear in mind that these are guesstimations and are likely to change as weekend sales get worked in. Lady Antebellum, Need You Now (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 185-195k * Lil Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Motown) 155-165k 2010 Grammy Nominees (Capitol/EMI) 95-105k +120% * Nick Jonas & the Administration (Hollywood) 85-90k Lady Gaga, The Fame (Interscope) 85-90k +28% Black Eyed Peas (Interscope) 75-80k +96% Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 60-65k +86% Zac Brown Band (Atlantic) 50-55k +138% * Rob Zombie (Roadrunner) 40-45k Susan Boyle (Columbia) 40-45k Beyonce (Columbia) 40-45k +154% Lady Gaga, The Fame Monster (Interscope) 30-35k +5% Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 25-30k Alicia Keys (J/RMG) 25-30k Kings of Leon (RCA/RMG) 25-30k +100% Michael Jackson's This Is It (Epic) 25-30k Pink (LaFace/JLG) 25-30k +205% Hope for Haiti (Hope for Haiti) 25-30k Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 25-30k Kidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 25-30k Mary J. Blige (Geffen) 25-30k * Denotes debut You may now return to filling out squares in the office pool. (2/5a) Go Pink!

SMH @ people turning Lil Wayne's failure into a success. regardless of what genre he is trying to do, he should open up with stronger numbers than this.

Wow, did not expect to see Carrie get an increase. I was expecting her to remain steady. Good to see the increase is rather significant too.

I'm not sure what that face is supposed to imply. But yeah, last week Taylor got to 5.47, through tomorrow she'll be at about 5.53. Her two studio albums together have sold over 10 million.

SMH @ people turning Lil Wayne's failure into a success. regardless of what genre he is trying to do, he should open up with stronger numbers than this. Why is this? Casual fans of his would have no reason to buy this record because they don't listen to that genre of music. Imagine someone like Britney Spears doing an urban album or Lady Gaga doing a gospel album. It just would not sell as they couldn't possibly market it succesfully. And also if people are expecting him to sell anywhere near 1 million copies of his next *rap* album (1st week) then they're setting themselves up for disappointment. Just ask Usher. And woot for Bey and GaGa!

And woot for Bey and GaGa! Enough with the excuses! Your examples are not good at all. While Here I Stand didn't open up with over a million copies sold, it still managed to sell almost half of what Confessions sold. Rebirth isn't even selling 1/4 of what Tha Carter III sold. The fact that Rebirth is a rock album is such a lousy excuse. Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey were able to transition from Pop/AC to R&B/Urban very successfully. 808s and Heartbreak wasn't a *rap* album either, but it still managed to open up with solid numbers. I'm not saying that Wayne should have repeated what he did with his previous album with his current album, but considering his last success, these numbers are disappointing. Sh!t, even Young Money's sales are underwhelming.
