I finally heard this song in full on their myspace, and I still stand behind liking Crash Kings better than this (the clip was a fairly honest indicator of the song). What I don't get is why Muse "Resistance" isn't having a longer run at the top.

What I don't get is why Muse "Resistance" isn't having a longer run at the top. It is surprising that Resistance didn't run longer after Uprising's dominance. Personally though on this song I like it more than I liked Crash Kings on first listen. I do like "Mountain Man" more than I did at the beginning but STP has my loyalty factor attached to it. I like "Between The Lines" when it really gets to the meat of the song but I do find that the beginning of the song is a little weak. Love the solo though.

I think my problem with it is that it sounds too much like "She Builds Quick Machines" which I thought was Velvet Revolver trying too hard to sound like STP and failing. Now STP is failing at sounding like STP too. Just on this song. I agree that the solo is good though.
I also don't like drugs are at the forefront of the lyrical content in this cock-rock era. While Scott's obviously had his drug troubles, and it's obviously honest, I was hoping STP could serve up something a little more to my liking.
That said, "Between The Lines" is a clever title.

I don't know why, but something about the verses made me think of "Subterranean Homesick Blues." Maybe it's the pacing or delivery. Not sure.
That aside, while I'm not blown away, I think it's pretty good, and I'm glad that the name STP still carries some clout at radio.

I sure don't hear this on Alt Nation enough to warrant a top 7 position.

That's because Sirius relegates any songs that are doing better on active than on alternative almost exclusively to sirius octane. All the alternative stations with no competing active station in the market are likely spinning the hell out of this.

That might help explain the spin differential. But I still hear it once a day on Alt Nation. It just sure doesn't seem like an alternative smash.

It's alright. I'm not quite as enthused about the guys as I once was. I prefer "All in the Suit That You Wear" to these last few album-based lead singles they've done. I listened to "Missing Cleveland" a few weeks back and think I like it better than this, too.

I drove over 3,000 miles the past two weeks, and I still haven't heard the song on the radio.
On a side note, I'm a little puzzled at the negative vibes towards "mountain man". It seems like a natural #1 to me. Then again, I'm also puzzled that "your decision" and "stylo" haven't hit top 3 yet, so what do I know.

That was my point earlier. Other than the Promo Only CD, I've heard this song probably 5 times. Who the heck is playing it?

WPBZ is playing it. 19 times in the past week and 25th on their playlist. Not a whole lot in comparison to "Lay Me Down" getting 62 spins and coming in at #1, but at least they're playing it.

I agree Octane should be playing it. I just don't see how it's earning those audience numbers on alternative stations.

Love this song and glad to see it doing well on the radio charts. Anyone know when it'll be available on iTunes? I have the ringtone but the actual song is not available, oddly.
BTW does anyone think of Nirvana's Stay Away during the bridge?

I hear Stay Away slightly. Remember Weiland was known as a Cobain clone when they first came out. Still is, I guess.
Possibly the most radio-friendly song they've ever recorded.

Have to (shockingly) disagree with Artie....."Interstate Love Song" is and always will be the most radio friendly song they ever release.

Yes it's very radio friendly. I think STP got a really bad rap when they first came to the scene. They were labeled "Pearl Jam clones." It's so inaccurate- to me, they sound nothing like Pearl Jam. I actually don't remember Weiland being labeled a Cobain clone back then. They were more or less a huge commercial hit and a critical whipping boy. Side note: Anyone else see in Best Buy an 8 song "album" that has their biggest radio hits on it? Sort of a truncated greatest hits. Side note 2: It seems like they're repressing Between the Lines. Will it simply not get a digital release at all, or are they going for a Hot 100 hit by repressing it? It would need pop airplay to really get any traction on that chart....which actually does not seem out of the question with this song.

I agree Interstate Love Song was their radio song. This out-pops it by a mile. I think riding so closely to Nirvana's coattails is why they took a lot of backlash.
Side note : yes, a cheaper unsatisfying hits package.
2 : I'm not sure the buyers and requesters that make up the Hot 100 cares about Stone Temple Pilots anymore.

To me, that statement contradicts itself. Interstate Love Song is an early hit of theirs, probably their biggest, and it sounds nothing like Nirvana. I actually don't really remember that comparison- does Core sound like Nirvana? My initial perception of them, before i fell in love with them, was that they were Pearl Jam knockoffs. Of course, they aren't at all, but that's sort of how they were perceived at first.

For a long time I thought "Plush" was a Pearl Jam song.

For a long time I thought "Plush" was a Pearl Jam song. I didn't know the difference in like 92 or whatever, but....now I don't even think Plush sounds like Pearl Jam. Maybe, MAYBE the way Weiland is singing on that song is reminiscent of Eddie Vedder, but for me that's where any similarity ends. I feel like STP are a good deal heavier than PJ.

Well in 1992 they were just as heavy as each other.

I don't see how you can call STP ''heavier'' than Pearl Jam. They're both hard-rocking grunge bands. Pearl Jam are just a hell lot better.
