Who do you guys think will be the last active artist/diva to sell 100 million records worldwide? We all know that physical sales have gone down the past decade, although every now and then, a few artist come up with albums that sell pretty well worldwide.
The closest ones I can think of are Janet and Britney, yet even they are waaaaay far from reaching that elite group. How about Shania or some other artist I don't know much

Janet, Britney, and Shania have all sold over 100 million records (albums + singles) globally.

Can someone give us a list? I think Britney has a lot of albums left in her, I don't know about Janet...

Gaga has sold 10 million albums world-wide in basically two years. I wouldn't count her out, although it will be hard for her to maintain her momentum for long enough to reach 100 million, not to mention the fact that sales will probably continue to decline.
Beyonce and Britney will probably get there.
Pink and Alicia are both around 30 million, and they are getting on the older side, so I'm not too sure about them.

Gaga may be able to. She's sold like what around 20-30 million records already. Britney already has crossed the 100 million mark.

With the boom of digital downloads I don't think it'll be any harder than it was before the album decline to reach the mark. I mean GaGa is already at around 40-45 million records and that's in under 2 years, so even if she does experience a decline (v. likely) she'll still be able to reach the mark in the long run.

WW Albums - 10 million US Tracks - 23 million ( Source, then she's sold approximately another 2M since then) Then that just leaves 7 million for track sales outside the US and also ringtones and video sales etc.

I never knew single downloads counted in the "sales" worldwide. That makes it "easier" to achieve (obviously still impressive, of course). Gaga will end up doing probably close to 50 million in just a cd and a half

Well I wondered too, but by Krhazy & Monroe's posts then I got the impression that they did, Monroe was just underestimating I've always thought that record sales really included everything, but that's just my understanding.

According to the article she has sold 18.4 million songs digitally and the 21 million figure he expresses in the article is combined with TF's total sales at that point 2.5 million of TF album sold combined with the 18.4 million singles leads to the 21 million figure. However if you already counted her 10 million sales worldwide then you don't need to add the 2.5 domestic figure. 10 million albums + 27 million singles = 37 million records.

Oh snap, I am. I hadn't read the article since it was published and I guess it got muddled in my head.

Britney is next in line to surpass 100 million. She's just under 90 million records WW. That's incorrect. Britney has sold around 120 million records. And Beysus has already surpassed the 100 million mark. I don't think so. She's at about 60 million sans singles sales from her last three albums and DC singles sans Destiny Fulfilled. She's probably around 90 million with everything.

Once again: record label press releases are meaningless, and frequently go against figures given in the same label's year end sales reports. I've also read countless record label press releases with mistakes in them regarding artist chart histories and peaks/runs for individual releases.

Ayumi Hamasaki's sales in Japan are more than 60,000,000 when you include digital sales. (She has been CERTIFIED for 10,000,000 digital sales. We don't know the sales she wasn't certified - so it's certainly a lot higher than that.)
Her PHYSICAL sales throughout the rest of Asia are estimated at 40,000,000 .. i guess that puts her at about 100,000,000 huh? however she's likely much higher.

It's her official website. You'll live.
Plus it's common knowledge Jive released a set number of physical singles for sale in the beginning of her career, and all the way up through Blackout. The 63 million albums plus 20 million singles sold ties in nicely with the aforementioned fact.
Add in the sales from Circus, and she's just under 90 million records as I state.

With Beyonce are you counting Destiny's Child?
And to make this a more general question to Pulse, do you prefer figures from one's solo career only or do you like including the entire sum with groups/bands?

Yeah there's no way Beyonce has sold 118 million records solo.....not even half that. Solo she's +/- 45 million records.

The 63 million albums plus 20 million singles sold ties in nicely with the aforementioned fact. Physical CD singles were issued for only a handful of her singles. I know BOMT, "Stronger", MATM, and a couple others had some. There could have been more as physical singles became really hard to find in stores. I do know 12" vinyl singles were issued for the majority of her U.S. singles. But I doubt the sales of the 12" singles were that significant.

In 2007, Britney's record label put her at 83 million records/units worldwide. You mean to tell me "Circus" sold 37 million records? Britney's sold 80 million based on albums alone. BOMT has sold 25 million. Between OIDIA which has sold 21 million, Britney which has sold 12 million, ITZ which has sold 8 million, GH:MP which has sold 6 million and Blackout and Circus which have sold 3 and 4 million respectively are you going to tell me she has only sold 3 million singles? No way. No way. She's sold 80 million albums. Combined with singles she's at about 120 million. Why? Jive hasn't updated her RIAA sales in years. Record labels aren't reliable when it comes to updating information or giving real totals or estimates. In Britney's case it's the rare occasion where she is under reported. Yeah that's a lie. She's sold around 90 million.

^ no career total would be her singing career, which would include Destiny's Child
However, I don't feel that her Destiny's Child sales should be included.

Well Beyonce's album total would be around 20 million. That means that between her single sales and all of DC's sales added would put her at 120 million. Which would be impossible. She is probably incredibly close but just right under.

Britney record sales are definetly past 125 million. her singles are huge sellers . OIDIA, Circus, Womanizer, BOMT, Toxic...those singles alone + her album sales take her across the 100 million mark.
