Toni's GENERIC,but Mariah's "It's Like That' wasn't? I'm a bigger Mariah than Toni fan,but that's ridiculous. The thing is that It's Like That has "Mariah Carey" all over it, you see? The lyrics, the vocals, it's all very Mariah-ish. It's generic Mariah, not generic generic. Well, I hope you got it ;) .

i think they were both "generic, generic" but what r&b female isnt these days? The only exception i can think of is Ms. Fantasia.

I love Fantasia to pieces but her album could have been sung by anybody. "Truth Is" is a Monica song. "Baby Mama" is a Beyonce song. "Free Yourself" is an Alicia Keys song. "Ain't Gon' Beg You" is a Mary J. Blige song... and those are just the singles. "It's All Good" is Destiny's Child. "Got Me Waiting" is Usher.

I like it but I can hardly understand what she says. I hate the way she sings her words.

My intuition is now telling me this will be the biggest song off the album and a hit at maybe as many as 6 formats. Go Mariah Toni!

You really hit that one on the head. ------ This song is starting to grow on me. I REALLY wanna like Toni this time around but she's making it so hard. I like this more than "Please" and a little more than "Take This Ring Off."

So? That never seemed to bother anyone in the past. I didn't even know "You're Makin' Me High" was about masturbating until she said that on her DVD and it was #1 for a week. I could never understand the words

I could never understand the words well you must have been deaf or naive to not know what she was talking about when one of the clearest and most understandable lines in the song said "just the thought of you i get down and touch myself" :o

I hope Toni can go platinum or double platinum... Im praying i really am.. cuz this is all good material, better than a lot of the R&B out. I'm sorry i think "take this ring off" screams hit.. but "trippin" is good too. Honestly if she can go double platinum, thats a SOLID smash for her since thats what the heat did. She just needs radio play which she's not getting. Why is she at blackground? lol... WHY.... go to J records or somethin if u wanna get away from LA reid.

I love Fantasia to pieces but her album could have been sung by anybody. What r&b female doesnt have an album out that couldnt have been done by any number of female artists? Most of the r&b songs on radio today are generic and disposable. You have producers like Jermaine Dupri, Rich Harrison and so on,who get a hit with 1 formula or style and they sell the same recycled thing to 10 other artists . However, the one thing that saves Fantasia and sets her apart IMO is her voice. You can give her any boring, generic song and her voice can turn it into something incredible. "Truth is" is a prime example. If some1 like Monica would have done that song it would have been a big flop, and unbearable to hear. But Fantasia adds her own style and flavor that Nobody else can duplicate and it saves the song. Thats what sets her apart and makes her less generic than any other female out right now.

"Truth Is" is right up Monica's alley. She has a song of that nature on damn near every one of her albums and she carries them well. She was the first artist I thought of when I heard that song because it sounds exactly like something she has sung before (and will probably keep singing about.) But yeah Fanny's voice is what carried pretty much all of her album. But good vocals doesn't make anyone less generic. They're just good vocalists that are singing crap songs and that's how they get labeled as being generic. And that brings this all back to Toni...

This is good. Its not better than Take This Ring though......Not even remotely close. This song is a B+ record. Take This Ring is an A++ record that blows this out of the water.

Could someone PM "Trippin" to me, too? I just listened to "Take This Ring" and I could easily sing the lyrics to Amerie's "1 Thing" to Toni's song. You should know better, Ms. Braxton! >:(
