Where does Alejandro rank on Pop songs airplay -- does anyone know? It's been doing better than I thought, and I'm wondering if maybe it does have an outside shot at making Gaga 7 for 7 with pop #1s?
How many digital era songs that debuted in the top ten have eventually hit #1? Katy may do it. But it seems a top ten debut often precludes a #1 hit. I can only think of:
I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas Girlfriend - Avril Lavigne So What - Pink
Every other top ten debut missed the top spot that I can think of. Mid-90s there were probably a few more (I think "Always Be My Baby" debuted at #2 before hitting #1?).

I always get a chuckle out of people belly-aching over "urban" songs getting to #1 on CHR. The majority of "urban" songs that have gotten to #1 on CHR are POP songs.
Plus I think we should celebrate songs that are good enough to appeal to multiple formats. Our industry is dying and songs like Nothing On You, Rude Boy, OMG etc; are helping keep the music alive by bringing in big numbers. It's no one's fault if acts like Owl City and Train don't attract the same number of fans as do crossover artist. Just my $.02

This century, a total of 3 artists have gotten multiple #1 H100 hits without being or featuring a black artist. there are multiple things wrong with this post so I'll refraim from commenting...

If people are tired of this so called "urban" sound that has allegedly dominated for 8 years, why do people continue to buy these tracks? Why does radio continue to play it? Obvious they like it! People are free to buy which music they like. And in this day in age, radio isn't the only means which people are exposed to music so you can't say they don't know anything else.

Listen to a big hit from 2002, then from 2004, then from 2006, then from 2008 and then from now and tell me there is "no variety" between them . Every popular genre has shifted somewhat over the past 8 years but some people are too bitter for whatever reason to admit it.

People are tired of it, I think. You think wrong. People aren't tired of these songs, otherwise they wouldn't be hits. It's that simple. This century, a total of 3 artists have gotten multiple #1 H100 hits without being or featuring a black artist. No comment.

Telephone" by Lady Gaga featuring Beyonce tops the 2 million mark in paid downloads this week. It's the first all-female collaboration to reach this sales plateau in the digital era. Back in the old days of physical singles, two all-female collabos were certified by the RIAA for sales of 2 million copies: "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" by Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer and "The Boy Is Mine" by Brandy & Monica Song Scorecard: Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" tops the 4 million mark in paid downloads in its 78th week. It's the 15th song to reach this plateau. Six of the 15 songs are by female artists. Lady Gaga accounts for two. Ke$ha, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and now Beyonce all account for one. "Single Ladies" won a Grammy for Song of the Year earlier this year. This is the second year in a row that the winner in that category has been a 4-million seller. So beyonce is a black female artist which can do that. :) Artists and songs that have sold 4 million and above: Beyonce - Single Ladies Taylor Swift - Love Story Ke$ha - Tik Tok Katy Perry - Hot n Cold Lady Gaga - Poker Face & Just Dance Flo Rida - Right Round & Low Jason Mraz - I'm Yours Timbaland - Apologize Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow & I Gotta Feeling ColdPlay - Vida La Vida Soulja Boy - Crank That Lil' Wayne - Lollipop

How many spots Crack A Bottle fell after getting number 1? Because if it fell off of top 10, then Not Afraid is doing great. P.S its not getting radio play, it has sold 584k so far!so that's awesome for a single with no video nor radio-play support!

Methinks "Not Afraid" can do a la "Break Your Heart", dropping several spots after reaching #1 yet managing to hold on inside the Top 10 for weeks.

So #2 debut for CG. Obviously that's still good- I predict it's #1 within the next few weeks. It screams "radio in the summertime."
Oh and btw....if people are tired of supposed urban music, then it will cease to do well on the charts.

Katy looks set to jump into the Top 15 on Hot 100 Airplay next week -- one day into the new week and she's already trending at #16 (+2.8 million). She debuted at #31 this past week.

^Hey, bks. Hope all is well with you.
Look at "I Gotta Feeling"- up four spots in its 49th week- further securing its position as the biggest Hot 100 single (per Billboard's most recent methodology) of the last 10 years- and longer, I believe.
And, the "Glee" count rises to 48 Hot 100 entries. The digital age sure has made it a LOT easier for records to be broken, in terms of number of entries.
