She's an interesting choice especially now. On one hand, it can be seen as a regression to the veteran acts of 05-10. At the same time though, she's the only one of her generation who still commands a sense of being contemporary, at least for now. I think they tried to stay to the middle of the road and get the best of both worlds.

Messiah- Live Nation isn't a distributor of music- she is signed to LN, mostly for touring. The LN deal remains. Interscope will distribute her music.
These are tidbits that HITS posted on the deal:
RAY OF LIGHT ON THE SUBJECT: Page Six “broke” the news this morning that Madonna has a three-album deal with Interscope and is back in the studio. Apparently, those guys don’t read HITS, because I.B. Bad broke the story two weeks ago. The Page Six item has the deal set at a base of $1 million per album (I.B. reported it’s worth $10m per), and though the project is still in the demo phase, the idea is to get the first album out early next year. According to the item, it was a disagreement with Edgar Bronfman that led Madonna to leave Warner Music and sign that megabucks 360 deal with Live Nation back in 2007. Guess she showed him... Speaking of I.B., our industry insider’s assessment of the year in music kicks off today in news. Don't miss it. (12/14a)
TALKING THAT TALK: Said Guy O, "We couldn't be happier to work with Jimmy Iovine, Lucian Grainge and the entire Interscope team. We anticipate a very bright future at our new home." Added Iovine, "Very rarely does an opportunity like this come around. We would like to thank Madonna, Guy and Live Nation for their belief in us." Interviewed in Billboard in February, Irving Azoff explained, "Live Nation, prior to the merger, entered into some of these all-rights deals, so there are certain artists, Madonna being one of them, that there is a recorded music strategy. Once she gets the album recorded, we'll sit down with her and her manager Guy Oseary and figure out what's best for the record. It has to start with the music." Finke and the bible value the deal in the $40 million range. (12/15a)

I edited the above post- didn't mean to include those others HITS tidbits. :)
Yes, Interscope is a Universal-owned label, so she is part of that right now.

^No- peak airplay for "4 Minutes" was around 54 million (No. 11 on Hot 100 Airplay), in its 7th week on the chart. bruce, when I said "closer to 30m," I meant that I knew it was higher than 20m. :) I just checked, and it debuted at No. 51 on Hot 100 Airplay for its first full week- that was probably around 24-25m BDS audience. I believe when it moved 51-41 in its second week, it had some 31 million, because it then gained 6m- in its third week (to around 37.3m). Only 54 million? That seems really low, some songs are considered flops with that much A.I. I heard it all the time on the radio, strange.

It spent 10 weeks in the top 10 on the Hot 100, I believe. That's huge for any single.

It may have been 54-56m for "4 Minutes," not really 100% certain of the exact numbers (just went by what bks used to post). Madonna doesn't get any urban play, and limited rhythmic- so, 54m was pretty decent, and her highest audience tally "Die Another Day" in 2002 )that peaked at No. 15 on H100 Airplay).
When "4 Minutes" was charting, there were almost 1,300 stations that comprised the Hot 100 Airplay panel, so similar to nowadays.

LOL @ the poster, PDC. Why don't they ever make posters like that for the guys? Prince, Michael, Paul McCartney, The Stones, U2, Bruce Springsteen etc... I don't care what anyone says, IT IS STILL A MAN'S WORLD!!

People make fun of the Stones for looking half dead just as much, if not more than they do Madonna.

The Stones are also a good 20+ years older than her.

OMG that poster is disgusting, lol.
Michael got made fun of plenty of times for how he looked. No one needed to make a poster b/c his face on its own was enough. (And now that he's dead, no one in the media is going to mock him now; they'd catch hell.)
Paul, U2, and Bruce all look pretty good for their age. Hell, Prince sometimes looks better now than he did 20+ years ago. So they don't get made fun of b/c they haven't shown their age (yet).

Madonna certainly looks good for her age (especially when she lays off the cheek treatments).
But, men are treated differently, for sure. Just look at how men are rarely pitted against each other in entertainment, yet the media often pits woman against woman.

^They're all revered, respected artists in the grand scope of music (though being males, they've even bigger critical successes than she). Madonna arguably has been the most important culturally of that lot, and has the most potential to score another U.S. hit. And, from a global perspective, she certainly has the most commercial potential among them.

LMFAO To Join Madonna at Super Bowl, Says Will.i.am January 26, 2012 By Jason Lipshutz, New York During the Super Bowl XLV halftime show last February, Will.i.am and the rest of the Black Eyed Peas brought out special guests like Usher and Slash to pump up their pop anthems. One year later, Will.i.am has taken it upon himself to reveal one of the performers expected to spice up Madonna's upcoming halftime extravaganza: those lovable party rockers, LMFAO.
Speaking to Capital FM about Madge's halftime show, Will.i.am says, "I'm going to the Super Bowl this year to see my group LMFAO perform with Madonna." LMFAO, who scored a pair of Hot 100 chart-toppers last year with "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy and I Know It," are signed to Will.i.am Music Group through Cherrytree/Interscope.
Madonna Officially Playing Super Bowl Halftime
The Peas star continued, "Check that out, Will.i.am Music Group is pretty freaking two for two…. One year the Super Bowl, the next year another group part of the Super Bowl in collaboration with Madonna. That's still happening."
Madonna, a recent Golden Globe winner whose 12th studio album "M.D.N.A." is expected for a March release, was announced as the Super Bowl halftime show performer in December after months of speculation. Nicki Minaj is also rumored to show up at the Super Bowl performance, after the hip-hop star and pop legend collaborated on Madonna's forthcoming single, "Give Me All Your Love."
Madonna Reveals New Album Title
Meanwhile, Will.i.am is gearing up for a new album himself: "#willpower," his fourth studio album, was previewed by the single "T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)" featuring Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger in November. Will.i.am and LMFAO both performed at the 2011 American Music

Like damn, just do a single straightforward super bowl performance of your hits, your f**king Madonna. I thought she was supposed to be a legend? What legend would want to perform with a group like LMFAO? This is like Stevie wonder performing with the jonas brothers at the grammies.

No fan of LMFAO at all, but my eyes will be focused on Madonna- as it should be. Maybe those guys will pop in during "Music" or something. I wouldn't be surprised if her manager suggested it. At least it's not a collaboration on a recorded track (though hopefully this doesn't lead to those guys being tacked onto a remix for a later single. LOL)

That would be one way to bolster the chances of scoring a second hit single from the album. But... no. :)
I'm confident that Her Madgesty will put on quite the enjoyable SB halftime show.

Officially less excited for the halftime show.
Oh, and most of the Stones are heinous and have been for decades.

Keep in mind for most people in the USA, Madonna has only had one "hit" during the past decade ("4M"). She is just as big as an "oldies" act as some of the others. It's not fair, but she is mainly known by general public for her 80s and 90s hits. The SB show is supposed to appeal to broad based. Not surprised they are adding more acts. Who cares? Madonna is either going to rock the show and impress or bomb. Don't think there will be a middle ground. I'm looking forward to the show.

There is always a middle ground she could lip sync, the show could be all about smoke and mirrors. But i would put up a thread after her performance and put the shows from the last few yrs and see how it compares and even have a poll to it. maybe i wouldnt include BEP
