I guess we just look at it differently. I can't think of a bunch of specific examples off the top of my head right now, but I know that it isn't uncommon at all for artists to be signed to record deals and then be dropped before even putting out so much as a single. I can guarantee that while Kellie may not be pulling in a ton of revenue for the label, she's definitely made them plenty in the past from other successful releases (Best Days, Red High Heels, I Wonder, etc.), and her track record to me suggests that if the label had to cut someone who has slipped down a tier compared to someone completely unknown, then I think Kellie would win out 9 times out of 10. Breaking a brand new artist will be a lot harder than getting another Top 20 entry for Kellie Pickler; they just need the right song, and this song was unfortunately too slow and clever for radio.

Well unfortunatly kellies best chance at another top 20. Will have to be with something more pop. Country radio is not really country radio no more! I could see it playing out like this.. That kellie would have to agree to make a more pop album to stick on with her current label.. And is kellie willing to do that idk.. But my guess would be no. but we shall see

Even though BNA retired and Columbia is back, I still think that Kellie will have a better chance on another label. I really hope she considers this idea. BNA really done such a sloppy job with this era and it disgusts me. Country radio could be partly to blame here, but I still think the label could've done more to help her material and more efficiently as well.

Well, I guess my prediction of Kellie Pickler hitting #1 with this song has just gone sour like last week's milk. What a shame. I was really pulling for this one.

The only difference is that last week's milk tastes better. Really, I think BNA (now Columbia) should drop Kellie Pickler and let her do her thing somewhere else.

I don't think the strategy was a smart one in any way. Promoting it to small stations while neglecting the masses made it seem like she had been GONE since "Tough", despite an album release. Most people have forgotten about her at this point.

Statements are swirling that Kellie is no longer signed to Sony/BNA.If so, then YAY! Now she can go to a label that can actually freaking promote and not drop her on her ass because of their screw-ups.

Its a shame she and Sony parted ways, but I guess it could be a good thing for if she were to land a better label home elsewhere. I imagine that she'll get scooped up by another label pretty easily though, and hopefully they'll have better luck with reviving her career. She's very marketable and has an established fanbase, so it's probably best that this happens, since the problem definitely isn't Kellie Pickler herself. Its too bad though that this means the 100 Proof era's already over. There wasn't much hope of success left in it, despite its critical acclaim.

*Hallelujah chorus* I know it's not nice to be happy when an artist is dropped from a label, but I'm very glad that she's free from Sony (who may be a little too obsessed with Kenny atm) and maybe 100 Proof can be re-released on another label or an entirely new album can be made. I won't expect anything from her for the rest of the year, though, since this just got confirmed and it takes a while for someone to get officially signed. We'll see what happens, I guess.

Hate to say it, but I saw this coming...
Anyway, how do we know that it's the label's fault? Can we assume that? The album just never sold very well, her singles did virtually nothing on iTunes...it doesn't seem like there's a lot of public interest in her atm, despite 13 pages of a thread on Pulse. I NEVER hear her older songs on the radio. To be honest, she was never that popular to begin with. And when "Tough" just couldn't compete on the chart, she ran into a lot of problems and kept back-pedaling with her momentum. It's a great album, but it's not really what's popular right now--not commercialy, not on the radio. Truth is, Carrie or Miranda could've released this album and its singles may have had a good chance to hit it big. A popular male artist could've done it as well, too. But Kellie just wasn't gonna get away with it...she was never that popular and radio hasn't played her regularly in years. "Best Days Of Your Life" hit it big in 2008 but she had help on that one, and the follow-up (Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You) climbed slowly into the teens in 2009 but since then she's barely scraped the top 30 and it took her a LONG time just to get there with "Makin' Me Fall In Love Again"...then some time off, and "Tough" just never took off.
Anyway, I don't really see her signing with anyone else right away. I'm sure she will sign with another label and keep pursuing this career, but I bet we won't hear anything right away. I can't see any of the big labels (Warner Music Nashville, Universal, Capitol) signing her and I don't see her being a fit with Big Machine either. Hopefully she stays clear of Curb. SDU would also not be very good as they can't score a hit for anyone but Toby.
I think a smaller indie label would be a great place for Kellie--maybe the newly-formed RPM Entertainment (Maggie Rose and radio promo for Zac Brown) or perhaps Black River Entertainment (Craig Morgan). The 'biggest' indie label I could see her going to (and this is just my opinion) is Broken Bow/Stoney Creek. I know BBR is planning to put out a new single for Kristy Lee Cook this summer and while I've said Kellie wasn't overly popular, she was obviously far more established than Kristy. And I can see Kellie being a fit at BBR but you never know. This is all just speculation on my part, and for all I know she could do one of the things that I'm not really picturing such as signing with Warner Music Nashville or UMG or even start her own label if she had any inclination to do so.

Great post jhomes, and I said it much simpler and not as eloquently as you did in the Other News thread. Her one real hit benefited from Taylor buzz (Taylor was even in the video) and in my opinion was her only strong single. She had some decent album tracks, and has some talent, but an indie label is her best bet for success. She is never going to be Carrie, Taylor, Miranda in terms of success, but if she can find a label that believes in her and promotes her above all else, she can find middle ground somewhere.
I hope she can stick around solely because of the chance she took with her latest record, though I didn't care for it much.

the only sad thing for me about this parting with the label is that it almost guarantees that 100 Proof, as an album, will not have a chance at the album award nominations it so richly deserves because no one will promote it to the voters

Out of nine single releases, Kellie Pickler has five major (top 20) hits. They are: 1. Red High Heels-2006-#15 2. I Wonder-2007-#14 3. Things That Never Cross A Man's Mind-2007-#16 4. Best Days Of Your Life-2009-#9 5. Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You-2010-#14

I knew this day would come. Yet it's still so sad :(. 100 Proof was such a wonderful album, and it's a shame that it's now being swept under the rug.

Kellie is enough of a known personality that she'll land at another label. It just depends on what SHE Wants to do.

Hopefully she's socked away enough $$$ for herself over the years that she can be choosy about picking the correct label to work with and not just sign with the first one that offers her a deal because she needs a paycheck...

Her husband also makes a nice steady living as a songwriter so she can be choosey. She may still be with 19 Entertainment. I'd bet $$ thought that Bigger Picture might be willing to work with her. Her love of traditionalist fare would pair nicely with Keith Stegall.

For the Grammy's, definately. They always seem to find off the wall unsuccessful albums to nominate, and they win more often than not.

Yeah, the Grammys reward albums with high quality even if they have had little to no success at all. On the other hand, the country awards wouldn't have touched 100 Proof with a 10-foot pole.

While I agree that even with the critical acclaim, this album may have been a long shot at the country awards to win anything or even get nominated, that's not why it won't do anything. She doesn't have a label to support this so there's virtually no chance of it being up for any awards now. I really didn't think the chances would be high anyway, because of Kellie's limited starpower, but now her chances are virtually 0.

I agree any and all chances of getting those potential nods are gone now.

I can actually see her on Big Machine. Let's see what happens. It would probably be a great fit for her; even though the BMR roster is crowded with a lot of big names, they generally do a great job at reviving artist's careers. And she could be label buddies with her bestie, Taylor Swift. If she doesn't end up there, then I hope she gets in the position of being a smaller label's flagship artist (like Maggie Rose).

I remember hearing way back before Zac Brown released his second album that they were working on a duet together, I still hope to hear that one day and It'd be a nice surprise to see her sign maybe with his Southern Ground label? Just throwing that out there I don't know how realistic that'd be.

I'd love to see her on Big Machine as well... They seem to be the label of career revivals; Rascal Flatts, Reba, Tim McGraw, etc...
This is a great thing for her. The circumstances suck, but she has a big enough name to get signed elsewhere, and get a new start in doing so.
