TAYLOR’S SWIFT RESPONSE: Indications are that Taylor Swift’s Big Machine album, Red, officially available today, has a million copies in its sight, based on early retail reads. Can the country-pop diva actually get there? If she does, it will be the first time in a decade that an artist has had consecutive million-selling debut weeks, since the days of Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and Eminem. Swift currently boasts approximately half of the iTunes top singles, due to the fact the online retailer's “Complete My Album” function was down for the first 15 hours that the album was available, which may account for the large number of track sales as consumers opted to buy the songs a la carte. The Target version of the album contains six additional songs, three live and three new studio tracks.Stay tuned as we gather more information. (10/22p)

If there's anyone out there that can have consecutive 1 million debuts, that person is definitely Taylor! I Hope she gets it!

We'll probably get full predictions on Wednesday. We're getting early projections on Taylor because it's an event-album.
Interesting considering they initially said 650-700k on SN before it blasted through the million mark. They initially projected Mumford at 400k and then rose up to 600k. It'll be interesting to track...

Wal Mart near me didn't even have her new album out.
Wonder if some of the die hards downloaded each song to get them all and now since they were unable to complete my album, that could cut into her sales total, right?

I can't believe Taylor is going to be the first female solo country artist to have 2 consecutive 1 million+ debuts in the 2010s.

:o
She's the first Scott Borchetta managed country solo female artist born in 1989 on the 13th day of the month and whose name rhymes with Sailor Twift to have back to back million debuts.
Can't believe that's never happened before. :o

But, can Red outsell Speak Now? I'm also a yes. I think the early signs are pointing to it, one being this HITS blurb. Speak Now started out with a much lower prediction and worked it's way up to one million throughout the week. While Red could open strong and be over-projected, that hasn't been the pattern here with many of the bigger releases this year. It's telling that they brought up the "m" word in a Monday article.

This is also worth a mention (in the Red versus Speak Now discussion): All early indicators (Itunes performance, Hits initial predictions, Target retail figures) are pointing to this album selling more than her last its first week out.

Speak Now was 1.05. Red may beat it but based on history I would guess not by much
There have been 17 million sellers in Soundscan, only 10 have broken 1.1 and only 2 in 10 years (The Massacre in 2005 and 'dollar store' Gaga last year)

Hah! Of course fans of lesser stars are gonna be MAD that their favorites can't touch Taylor's level of success at the moment. She's gonna have back-to-back 1M first week sales...amazing!
