One Direction shouldn't be a threat for Rihanna, assuming she sells around 200k. Taylor and one direction could be with reduced pricing. It would be great for Rihanna to get #1...lucky #7

The Weeknd has a strong fanbase...those are great numbers for him especially since most of it was released earlier. Those projections for Christina are about what I expected.

I think Rihanna will do around 170-180K this time around.
She's coming off a smaller era than she was with 'Talk That Talk' and Diamonds isn't as big as WFL. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Christina has a lot more promotion/exposure than Weeknd and Lana, yet she is going to get beat by one and about tie with the other. Can the media and others finally get through their heads that Christina's relevance in music ended 7 or so years ago?

One Direction 525-575k Lana Del R ey 65-70k :'( And people thought she was a nobody in the US. She's coming for that gold certification without a hit in any format and no promo at all. Btw in the article it says is an EP. Does that mean it'll chart separately or will its sales be counted with those of the original BTD album? I wonder what numbers she's pull if pop radio played one of her songs. I don't get how her label hasn't even tried to send National Anthem or Summertime Sadness to pop radio. With a proper mix both of them could be hits. Sigh..

One Direction - strong numbers especially considering most big debuts have been trending up from the initial HITS predictions. Mumford started at 400k and Taylor at 1m.
The Weeknd - those are massive numbers considering most of his core fanbase probably already has that music
Christina - actually OK...not that it will have any legs without a hit
Green Day - ouch...is there even a single for Dos?

Susan Boyle really took a dive. 35-40k. I guess that ship finally sailed. But Simon has 1D now I guess.

Well at least Boyle got multiple multi-platinum albums before she was over. Only 2 American Idol alumni have done that.

Although Xtina only did like a few seconds part on MLJ, i though MLJ would help her reviving her career! Just like Maroon 5's Career.
Your Body is a decent lead single, but with lacks of promo, weak first week sales are expected, but not THAT low, 75k in US. I though 100k was reachable :( I think she still cares for her success but she seems afraid to promote hard today.

Why would MLJ "revive" her career? Whether there was lack of promo or not (a video, weekly exposure on The Voice, where they mentioned her new album this week, a number of interviews, etc. sounds like promo to me), the projection for the album sales is pretty disappointing. Overall musical interest in Aguilera just isn't that strong right now, and the lead single didn't resonate. We've seen acts do little to no promo, but there was a hit single and they didn't drive potential album buyers away, which resulted in impressive opening sales.
One Direction's projection is music to industry ears, I'm sure- hope it ends up above 500K.

Why would Xtina be "afraid"?
It's more like she doesn't care too much.

So Lana Del Rey who's biggest promo is an H&M ad, and who's single didn't even cross 20 Mil is selling just a little under Xtina...Hmmmmm ;)

Yep. I mean who else can come back with a #34 hit single and open with 75k? I'm no Christina hater, but The Weeknd have no hit single and are expecting to sell more than her..

"I don't like her. Because she has a nasty attitude. I was trying to greet her properly and she stuck her hand out for me to kiss it and I said, 'Oh okay! You're heading down the wrong path already. Britney Spears can't sing like you, but she will go farther than you because she knows how to respect and treat other people." - Mary J. Blige (circa 2000), prophet.

It always seems bizarre to me to compare fresh newbies with loads of hype to veteran artists. Like, to do an accurate comparison you really need to look at The Weeknd's and Lana's numbers when they are 12+ years after their debut cds. It is like saying One Direction are much much much bigger overall stars than Madonna or Britney Spears because their album is opening bigger than Madonna and Britney's last album. It just seems...silly to me? I know it is Christina and people have their claws out as much as possible, but I really don't see people making the same types of comparisons when it comes to pretty much any other act in the business for 10+ years and not doing as well as crazy hyped fresh new artists.

Yeah, but Britney's been around just as long as Christina and she's opening with bigger numbers. Madonna's been around for nearly 30 years, and she opened with much bigger numbers than Christina's. Lana and The Weeknd are both artists who have never even had a radio hit, and yet they are opening with bigger numbers than Christina who has had over a decade to cultivate a fan base and had a Top 20 record at CHR/Pop with the lead single. I don't see why comparing them is ridiculous. I saw those comparisons, not people expecting her to be selling like OneDirection.

(man, how the mighty have fallen) The Weekend tho....i'm acstatic! I just love it when the underdog slays. Christina's numbers are what most people on forums predicted. And even though they are "good considering -no promo, no hit") those numbers are pretty bad for an artist whose fans rank her as having a HUGE cultural relevance. And yes, One Direction is just massive!
