Ke$ha is one of the worst promoted pop singers so this number doesn't really surprise me. "Animal" did well but it could have done so much more if she actually promoted and made herself more visible like Katy Perry and Rihanna do. I only remember like 2 major performances he did during that whole era and I assume she did nothing before her album dropped besides the AMA's.

I am not surprised at all. IMO, she is the poster child of the singles artist. Honestly, I think her expiration date of relevance in the music world is not too far away since I strongly feel that she has no niche or standout talent. Clearly radio and the public still enjoy her songs as evidenced by her singles' airplay and sales. That being said, I have said (and still think) the same about Katy Perry), but obviously I have been massively wrong about her....

I think RCA was hoping she would sell on name alone, and they definitely overestimated her hype. I've yet to see a tv ad for the cd and going to the cd section in Target, I wouldn't have guessed her album dropped this week. They had a chance to make her sophomore effort an EVENT, and could have really hyped this up, but it seems so lackluster.... The promo and hype leading up to Born This Way and Teenage Dream was HUGE.

I wouldn't say the promo leading up to Teenage Dream was huge. It had 1 #1 single and another on its way. But I don't remember a HUGE promotion behind it. Nothing more than usual. No subway billboards or anything. It was the inside industry execs that over-estimated the sales, and somehow that's what's remembered. I actually think the album should've come out a month before when CG was at its peak...

Two huge singles before album was even released seems like a pretty big deal. Sales-wise, I think Diamonds isn't as big as either of them was, and Rihanna ended up with over 200k.

I am one who overestimated what Ke$ha's sales would be, but I agree. I wouldn't say Teenage Dream's promo was as large as BTW (goodness, what could be?), but Capitol and Katy did put in a lot of work to set her up. They made sure CG had a full run, released a second single a month before the album so that it could be near its peak during the debut week, and did an iTunes countdown. I think she did every live event she possibly could. And when the numbers came in lower than industry expectation, they didn't freak out, they just kept plugging. It worked out in the end. It's increasingly apparent that it is going to take five times the effort to get the same amount of results these days, especially for pop albums. There really isn't a such thing as selling on name alone anymore. (And before anyone points out Taylor Swift, think about the amount of hype and promotion Scott Borchetta puts behind her with each release. That is clearly not a sign of someone relying solely on the strength of her name.) If labels are not willing to spend that kind of money for a big return (but still expect album sales), they need to question why they're signing these pop tarts in the first place.

Ke$ha's 'Warrior' Headed for Top 10, Taylor Swift Set for No. 1 Return on Billboard 200 December 07, 2012 | By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles After vacating the top slot on the Billboard 200 chart for three weeks, it looks like Taylor Swift's "Red" will return to No. 1. The current tracking week isn't over yet, but industry forecasters suggest that the Big Machine Records album will swoop back to No. 1 next week with perhaps 160,000 sold. The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Dec. 12. "Red" bowed at No. 1 six weeks ago with 1.2 million, according to Nielsen SoundScan, earning the largest sales week for an album since 2002. (Eminem's "The Eminem Show" was the last to rack up a larger frame when it did 1.32 million in its first full week at No. 1 on the chart dated June 15, 2002.) So far, "Red" has moved 2.2 million in the United States, making it the year's second-biggest selling album. Adele's "21" leads the pack with 4.2 million. As for the rest of the top 10 next week, look for Wiz Khalifa's new "O.N.I.F.C." to bow with around 135,000 or so, l ikely at No. 2. Rod Stewart's "Merry Christmas, Baby" is also in the running for the No. 2 slot. The tally's second-highest debut will come from Ke$ha's "Warrior," which is on course to start with about 80,000 to 90,000. That might place it somewhere just around the No. 5 position. The album's lead single "Die Young" is a smash hit and currently sits at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Ke$ha's first album, "Animal," debuted at No. 1 in January 2010 with 152,000 while its follow-up, "Cannibal," launched at No. 15 later that year with 74,000. On Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below), Khalifa is No. 1, Swift is No. 2 and Ke$ha is No. 3. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking, reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants. As for the rest of the Building chart's top 10: Stewart is No. 4, followed by One Direction's "Take Me Home." Alicia Keys' "Girl On Fire" is in the sixth slot and Blake Shelton's "Cheers, It's Christmas" is No. 7. Country duo Florida Georgia Line's new "Here's to the Good Times" is No. 8, Phillip Phillips' "The World From the Side of the Moon" is No. 9 and Rihanna's "Unapologetic" rounds out the top 10. Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title 1 NEW Wiz Khalifa "O.N.I.F.C." 2 2 Taylor Swift "Red" 3 NEW Ke$ha "Warrior" 4 3 Rod Stewart "Merry Christmas, Baby" 5 4 One Direction "Take Me Home" 6 1 Alicia Keys "Girl On Fire" 7 9 Blake Shelton "Cheers, It's Christmas" 8 NEW Florida Georgia Line "Here's to the Good Times" 9 5 Phillip Phillips "The World From the Side of the World" 10 6 Rihanna "Unapologetic" The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales. A top five for Ke$ha isn't bad. Hopefully the album will have longevity.

Phillip Phillips stabilized well these past couple of weeks. :) He should be sailing to a Gold certification no later than the end of January 2013 :)

I think Bruno will get it, but Game is looking to have a very solid debut. He should be able to sell 140k-170k. Big Boi will probably be somewhere in the 70k-120k range.

Michael Buble has a Xmas special today on NBC; he could be a pretty big seller for the next 2.5 weeks. He already had a big jump last week.
