Unfortunately, while the weather is now finally getting warmer, things are beginning to cool off here on Mike's Top 40. There's only one debut this week, and only four songs move more than four notches in any direction. @jf816: Kacey + "Free" hold steady outside Top 10. @drag27: Gaga up four. @spiritanimal: Kylie up one. @yonkab: DIL up two, XO up three (+ more on that below). josh: Coldplay up two (leapfrogged by Gaga). Lahey's Lucky Star: 1D the week's Biggest Mover. surfy, hitseeker.: SoMo up four. Juan Carlos: Duke + Disclosure round out Top 3. Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: April 5, 2014 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | 29 | 22 | Avril Lavigne featuring Chad Kroeger | Let Me Go | 5 | 39 | -- | 1 | Jetta | Feels Like Coming Home | 39 | 38 | 30 | 24 | Ciara | Overdose | 3 | 37 | 39 | 2 | Coldplay | Midnight | 37 | 36 | 40 | 2 | Lady Gaga | G.U.Y. | 36 | 35 | 37 | 2 | John Martin | Anywhere For You | 35 | 34 | 38 | 2 | Berlin | Animal | 34 | 33 | 36 | 3 | Hot Chelle Rae | Don't Say Goodnight | 33 | 32 | 34 | 3 | Ciara featuring Future | Anytime | 32 | 31 | 33 | 3 | Fall Out Boy | Young Volcanoes | 31 | 30 | 35 | 3 | One Direction | You and I | 30 | 29 | 31 | 5 | Sarah McLachlan | Beautiful Girl | 29 | 28 | 17 | 16 | Chris Wallace | Keep Me Crazy | 6 | 27 | 28 | 4 | Rascal Flatts | Rewind | 27 | 26 | 26 | 8 | Keith Urban | Cop Car | 26 | 25 | 27 | 5 | DJ Cassidy featuring Robin Thicke & Jessie J | Calling All Hearts | 25 | 24 | 25 | 7 | Tiesto | Red Lights | 24 | 23 | 23 | 25 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 20 | 22 | 24 | 4 | Justin Timberlake | Not a Bad Thing | 22 | 21 | 22 | 8 | Kylie Minogue | Into the Blue | 21 | 20 | 20 | 10 | Britney Spears | Alien | 20 | 19 | 21 | 6 | LeAnn Rimes featuring Rob Thomas & Jeff Beck | Gasoline and Matches | 19 | 18 | 14 | 24 | Katy Perry | Unconditionally | 1 (3) | 17 | 19 | 10 | Hunter Hayes | Invisible | 17 | 16 | 18 | 7 | John Newman | Losing Sleep | 16 | 15 | 15 | 10 | Foster The People | Coming of Age | 15 | 14 | 16 | 10 | Beyonce featuring Jay-Z | Drunk in Love | 14 | 13 | 13 | 12 | Karmin | I Want it All | 13 | 12 | 12 | 10 | Kacey Musgraves | Follow Your Arrow | 12 | 11 | 11 | 10 | Rudimental featuring Emeli Sande | Free | 11 | 10 | 8 | 12 | Paramore | Ain't it Fun | 8 | 9 | 6 | 14 | Melissa Etheridge | Uprising of Love (Remix) | 1 (4) | 8 | 9 | 10 | Darling Parade | Crash & Burn | 8 | 7 | 4 | 27 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 1 (1) | 6 | 10 | 9 | SoMo | Ride | 6 | 5 | 2 | 22 | Steve Grand | Stay | 1 (1) | 4 | 7 | 13 | Beyonce | XO | 4 | 3 | 5 | 15 | Duke Dumont featuring A.M.E. | Need U (100%) | 3 | 2 | 3 | 16 | Disclosure featuring Sam Smith | Latch | 2 | 1 | 1 | 11 | Neon Trees | Sleeping With a Friend | 1 (2) |
DROPPER:Armin van Buuren featuring Cindy Alma - Don't Want to Fight Love Away (from 32) DEBUT CORNER:"Feels Like Coming Home": This just dropped out of the Hot AC top 50 :'(, but it's managed to grow on me to the point where it's received a push to enter the Top 40 here. Her voice sort of reminds me of Adele, though with more of a confined range. Even with the state of the chart, she should manage to stick around for a bit. Beyond that, I'm really not sure. Expect Neon Trees to be at the summit for a while - they're here to slay, ladies and gentlemen. :) Disclosure move into #2 this week, but they could have one big problem on their hands, as not only are they starting to wear down once again, but Duke Dumont's looking stronger again as well. These two have had a back-and-forth all the way up the chart - Duke passed them early on, in the 30s, then Disclosure leaped back ahead when they hit the Top 10. Now, it's looking like that pendulum could swing once again. In any case, this could be good news for both Neon Trees and Beyonce - for the former, it's easier to maintain their grip on the summit while the closest two competitors dish it out. For the latter, it may allow her to get another leg up if one of the two burns out as a result. Speaking of Bey, with "XO" jumping 7-4, she scores her first Top 5 hit here since teaming with Lady Gaga to take "Telephone" to the top, and first solo Top 5 hit since way back in early 2006, when "Check On It" reached #3. It is worth noting, though, that nothing from B'Day would've been able to chart, and almost nothing from Sasha Fierce was, either - once again, due to no chart. (Almost nothing, because "Sweet Dreams" started at #6 when my Top 20 re-launched in 2010, and simply dropped from there.) It's 4 where her lack of charting songs holds her accountable. Even if "XO" peaks right there at #4 - and it might - it's abundantly clear that she's back in solid form around these parts. :) (P.S.: Obviously that's a fan cover used for the picture above, but I wanted something distinctive for it besides just falling back on the album cover.) Meanwhile, also putting his bid in for a top spot this week is SoMo, with "Ride" jumping 10-6 and showing no signs of wearing down. Paramore do backward bullet 8-10 this week, but they're not quite done yet. With a pack closing in on the Top 10, I'm not sure how much higher they'll get, but they're not presently showing signs of dropping out of sight. One who might be soon, though, is Foster The People. Bey #2 jumps over them this week, and in truth I don't see "Coming of Age" lasting much longer to go higher, if at all. The same could also be said for Britney and Keith Urban; I'm losing interest in keeping both "Alien" and "Cop Car" around. And as I mentioned at the beginning, we're hitting a bit of a spring slowdown. One Direction manage to snag Biggest Mover honors with only a 5-spot jump this week, while Avril and Chris Wallace share Biggest Dropper honors with just over double that many. Besides those, only Ciara (down 8 to #38) moves more than 4 in either direction. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

XO should have already hit #1. Drunk in Love should currently be #1. Partition should be the next #1.
You chose a hideous cover for XO.
How dare you pay "4" dust. Love on Top and RTW >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Other than that, great chart. Nice to see Ride do well. And Unconditionally was a major hit on your chart. Nice to see someone else love that song (it's soooo much better than Dark House or Black Horse or w/e). XO

Love on Top and RTW >>>>>> 2010-2012, in retrospect, was definitely a Hot AC-leaning phase for me; I wasn't charting much that was neither Pop nor Hot AC during those few years. So admittedly, 4 was, for the most part, not on my radar. It's very possible that things would be different if conducted under this chart era. Re: The cover - Google search didn't reveal much for "XO" covers. That was really the only one that even looked like it could pass for a single cover; only other options were a few that looked like half-covers at best (no no no), or the album cover. And I'm afraid I'm probably going to have to disappoint you on "Partition" - should it reach my chart, it's probably not going to be a very big hit. But even if that happens, "Haunted" will definitely get a run at some point (assuming that doesn't become a single).

Libra i.imgur.com/Lb0gTUa.jpgThey're very hard to find online. I just found the digital booklet somewhere, got it full screen and print screened the pic. Same for DIL and Partition if you ever need them. Oh and PH. I should get Blow too since it was a Dance Club #1 lol. (I have them all located in Beyonce album thread OP btw)

This one did come up on Google...I still prefer the other one tho. Yeah this one matches the video and album cover style, but in general it's much too busy IMO. Or is this the actual one rather than a fan one?

DROPPERS:Avril Lavigne featuring Chad Kroeger - Let Me Go (from 40) Ciara - Overdose (from 38) I'm electing to suspend commentary for this week, with the following exception: DEBUT CORNER:"FALLINLOVE2NITE": This grew on me quickly; I do like his 80s Camille-esque vocals in this. I'm not sure how high it'll get/how long it'll last, but all in all he did well with this. "Crying For No Reason": What hooked me on this one was how she started out slow and sad, then sped it up while managing to not only not ruin the song, but have it still be a good song as well. Took a little while to reach the Top 40 due to the forest of chart contenders that she had to fight through, but even still, she should have a lasting hit with this here.

@spiritanimal: Kylie up two more. Flip: Who are you most rooting for? Checked your chart and we only have even three songs in common - two falling, the third holding at chart bottom. :'( surfy: "Drunk in Love" indeed leaps into Top 10 territory. Lahey's Lucky Star: Disclosure, unfortunately, give way. @jf816, Zeebz: Katy B holds in place due to a very cramped chart bottom (see also below). @drag27: Gaga up two. @yonkab: "XO" up one more to #3. josh: 1D once again the week's Biggest Mover. hitseeker.: SoMo also up one more. Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: April 19, 2014 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Sara Evans | Slow Me Down | 40 | 39 | 39 | 2 | Prince featuring Zooey Deschanel | FALLINLOVE2NITE | 39 | 38 | 38 | 2 | Katy B | Crying For No Reason | 38 | 37 | 36 | 5 | Hot Chelle Rae | Don't Say Goodnight | 33 | 36 | 37 | 3 | Jetta | Feels Like Coming Home | 36 | 35 | 29 | 7 | Sarah McLachlan | Beautiful Girl | 29 | 34 | 27 | 10 | Keith Urban | Cop Car | 27 | 33 | 35 | 4 | Coldplay | Midnight | 33 | 32 | 34 | 4 | Lady Gaga | G.U.Y. | 32 | 31 | 22 | 12 | Britney Spears | Alien | 20 | 30 | 24 | 26 | Katy Perry | Unconditionally | 1 (3) | 29 | 33 | 4 | John Martin | Anywhere For You | 29 | 28 | 31 | 5 | Ciara featuring Future | Anytime | 28 | 27 | 30 | 5 | Fall Out Boy | Young Volcanoes | 27 | 26 | 32 | 4 | Berlin | Animal | 26 | 25 | 25 | 7 | DJ Cassidy featuring Robin Thicke & Jessie J | Calling All Hearts | 25 | 24 | 17 | 12 | Foster The People | Coming of Age | 15 | 23 | 23 | 9 | Tiesto | Red Lights | 23 | 22 | 26 | 6 | Rascal Flatts | Rewind | 22 | 21 | 28 | 5 | One Direction | You and I | 21 | 20 | 21 | 27 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 20 | 19 | 12 | 29 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 1 (1) | 18 | 20 | 10 | Kylie Minogue | Into the Blue | 18 | 17 | 18 | 8 | LeAnn Rimes featuring Rob Thomas & Jeff Beck | Gasoline and Matches | 17 | 16 | 19 | 6 | Justin Timberlake | Not a Bad Thing | 16 | 15 | 9 | 24 | Steve Grand | Stay | 1 (1) | 14 | 11 | 16 | Melissa Etheridge | Uprising of Love (Remix) | 1 (4) | 13 | 13 | 14 | Karmin | I Want it All | 13 | 12 | 16 | 12 | Hunter Hayes | Invisible | 12 | 11 | 15 | 9 | John Newman | Losing Sleep | 11 | 10 | 14 | 12 | Beyonce featuring Jay-Z | Drunk in Love | 10 | 9 | 8 | 14 | Paramore | Ain't it Fun | 8 | 8 | 10 | 12 | Kacey Musgraves | Follow Your Arrow | 8 | 7 | 7 | 12 | Rudimental featuring Emeli Sande | Free | 7 | 6 | 6 | 12 | Darling Parade | Crash & Burn | 6 | 5 | 2 | 18 | Disclosure featuring Sam Smith | Latch | 2 | 4 | 5 | 11 | SoMo | Ride | 4 | 3 | 4 | 15 | Beyonce | XO | 3 | 2 | 3 | 17 | Duke Dumont featuring A.M.E. | Need U (100%) | 2 | 1 | 1 | 13 | Neon Trees | Sleeping With a Friend | 1 (4) |
DROPPER:Chris Wallace - Keep Me Crazy (from 40) DEBUT CORNER:"Slow Me Down": Another country song, though with a fairly unconventional production - which in this case, only helps the song that much more. Was surprised to discover that it had been around for a while already at Country radio - nevertheless, I'm really into it, and I'll probably be hanging onto it for a while myself. :) Well, the Top 10 is still fairly tight, and the very bottom of the chart is in logjam, but the middle of the chart is looking very good this week. :) One Direction nab Biggest Mover honors once again (narrowly besting Berlin for that) and leap seven to knock on the door of the Top 20. Meanwhile the bottom appears to be falling out for Britney, as she slides nine to #31 for the week's Biggest Drop. I unfortunately have very bad news to deliver to the "Red Lights" supporters: Tiesto's peaking. Sorry...but while it's a good song, I just can't get really into it, and by now there's really no way that that's going to change. And while Mary Lambert returns to her original peak of #20 this week - she is, once again, probably not going to go higher than that. "Calling All Hearts", meanwhile, while that holds at #25 for the third week in a row, it has a good chance of breaking free from there next week. Karmin, unfortunately, lose their bullet at their own fourth week at #13. Yes, that too is likely to start dropping. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

● Amazing to see "Need U (100%)" at #2. Hope it could climb atop. ● "Latch" falls. At least, it reached #2 as well. ● "I Want It All" holds at #13. Hope it jumps next week. ● "Into the Blue" keeps climbing, while "Coming of Age" and "Alien" fall. ● Good to see "G.U.Y." and "Midnight" in your chart.

DROPPERS:Sarah McLachlan - Beautiful Girl (from 35) Keith Urban - Cop Car (from 34) Britney Spears - Alien (from 31) DEBUT CORNER: "Red Balloons": This one's been slowly building for a while. It has a mellow vibe to it that isn't easy to just let go of - while it may not be an incredibly strong song, it sticks with you. Still, I think she has a good chance of peaking on the lower end with this as the chart gets tougher and tougher. "Incredible": When I first heard this, I wasn't really blown away by it. It wasn't a bad song for sure, but it wasn't really a great song either. It's grown on me a bit, and this too is a song that sticks with you after a while. I do think this could suffer the same fate as Nelly Furtado, though this might last longer here since it hasn't been building for as long. "Stupid Little Things": Big hit alert! Definitely going to be playing this a lot this summer. It's easily one of the catchiest songs in the entire Top 40, and I do not see myself getting sick of this one anytime soon. She's always had an odd sort of voice that could easily contribute to the detriment of a lesser song, but I do think it suits this song quite well. One big reason she won't necessarily have the easiest ride to the top, other competition notwithstanding, is that she'll have to face off with Sara Evans - look for those two to go neck-and-neck going upward, because both their songs are just that damn good. Neon Trees continue to show no signs of surrender as they log a fifth frame in the top spot, hold Duke Dumont to a second frame at #2, and see "XO" drop from 3 to 5. But, here come SoMo up one more to #3, and Darling Parade marching two to #4. "Free" stays put for a third week at #7 as Kacey Musgraves leaps over it, but that song isn't quite done yet either. Despite getting pushed back another spot to #10, neither are Paramore, as they continue to retain a bullet. Their problem is the level of competition that currently exists in the Top 10, because these songs are just. That. Good. That said, it's not out of the question for them to go back up again next week. The stiff competition is showing signs of quickly spreading down throughout the Top 20, with 11-16 all bulleted and none of them showing signs of breaking down. One Direction, despite an impressive leap from 21 to 15, will find themselves fighting for each step up from here on out. Kylie reaches #16 in her 11th week - she may, ultimately, find herself peaking lower than her opposition, but she likely won't reach that point until she's spent a longer time on the chart overall than other songs in her position would - and those kind of legs will only help her come year-end chart time. After three weeks at #25, DJ Cassidy and company do break free this week, and are now knocking on the door of the Top 20. But right behind them - it's this week's Biggest Mover! Lady Gaga leaps nine notches to #23. Hmmmm...we've seen quite a few Big Moves all launching from that #32 position in the past few months. And as I mentioned for her debut entry, Anastacia's debut at #35 is no fluke either. One last thing I'll mention is that though "Beautiful Girl" drops this week, Sarah has "In Your Shoes" marching fast towards the Top 40 - expect to see it on these pages pretty soon. I might, possibly, bring "Beautiful Girl" back for a second run later on - but given the current state of the chart and the fact that she has an actual single out now, I figured I'd give that a shot since it's just as good a song. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

"Into The Blue" is sporting some good longevity. Yay "Slow Me Down" Also "Free" & "Follow Your Arrow" still bulleted.
