Of course Gaga would be the biggest mover, but she's amazing so she deserves it. 1D top 20!!! But I can't at "Red Lights" falling :'( That reign for Neon Trees though... :o

That reign for Neon Trees though... :o What? It's just five weeks. :kii: My record is ten, though that hasn't happened since my first chart era in 2005. In my second chart era, nobody scored more than 7 weeks on top. Some other observations about this week's three debuts: I'm not 100% sure, but I may have charted "One Day in Your Life" back in 2002. (I've long since lost my pre-2003 archives, and since those charts were on the R&R board, they're long since lost to history. :() If I didn't, then "Stupid Little Things" would in fact be her first charting single here. This is Celine Dion's third charting single for me. "A New Day Has Come" went to #13 in 2002, and "I Drove All Night" stopped at #11 in 2003. For that matter, it's Ne-Yo's third as well, after "So Sick" (#3) and "Let's Go" (#8). It's also Nelly Furtado's third. "Powerless (Say What You Want)" spent two weeks at the top in December 2003, and "Promiscuous" was cruising for a repeat when my first chart shut down halfway through 2006.

DROPPERS:Katy Perry - Unconditionally (from 38) Foster The People - Coming of Age (from 33) DEBUT CORNER:"Sirens": I've been cheering this on other people's charts, time to put it on my own finally. :'( I can see this sticking around longer than "I Wish" did, though it might struggle to climb at first because I see my chart tightening up again during the next few weeks. "Fancy": A definite guilty pleasure, yeah this is going to be a summer hit for me too. That beat just draws me in, Iggy + Charli keep me coming back for more. Neon Trees make it to six weeks in the penthouse, but is their stay about to run out? SoMo is up to #2, and don't count out Darling Parade who are right behind him at #3! After 3 weeks at #7, "Free" breaks free of its bindings and steps up to #6. Paramore return to #8 once again. I'm still not sure if this is going to outpeak "Still Into You" here or not, but it sure looks to be sticking around a little while longer. "Gasoline and Matches" backward bullets to #15, but no, that one's not done yet, either. After a few weeks floundering for direction, Hot Chelle Rae are back up to #33. And with the week's second biggest drop (second only to Tiesto), it looks like the long run of "Lay Me Down" is finally coming to an end after 31 weeks. Maybe, maybe I might bring it back if it sees any kind of release over here, but after playing it for so long I'm ready to give it a rest. Oh and I substituted in a picture in place of the "cover" for Follow Your Arrow. The actual cover, if one can even call it that, is fucking hideous. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

Back from a week's vacation, and armed with five debuts for this week - including a first: One artist debuts twice in the same week! With the frozen week last week, Neon Trees scored their seventh week on top. Do they make it eight this week, does SoMo complete his ride to the top, or do Darling Parade cause them both to crash and burn? @drag27: "Drunk in Love" goes Top 5. @spiritanimal: Kylie up four. hitseeker.: So is Jetta. @jf816: And Sara Evans. surfy: JT reaches Top 10 territory. Kurt: Celine/Ne-Yo up five. josh: So are Coldplay. Lahey's Lucky Star: Cher Lloyd the week's Biggest Mover. Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: May 17, 2014 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Nico & Vinz | Am I Wrong | 40 | 39 | -- | 1 | Michael Jackson | Love Never Felt So Good | 39 | 38 | 37 | 4 | Nelly Furtado | Red Balloons | 37 | 37 | -- | 1 | Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne | Rather Be | 37 | 36 | -- | 1 | Route 94 featuring Jess Glynne | My Love | 36 | 35 | -- | 1 | Sarah McLachlan | In Your Shoes | 35 | 34 | 34 | 5 | Prince featuring Zooey Deschanel | FALLINLOVE2NITE | 34 | 33 | 33 | 9 | Hot Chelle Rae | Don't Say Goodnight | 33 | 32 | 21 | 20 | Melissa Etheridge | Uprising of Love (Remix) | 1 (4) | 31 | 39 | 3 | Cher Lloyd | Sirens | 31 | 30 | 35 | 4 | Celine Dion & Ne-Yo | Incredible | 30 | 29 | 14 | 22 | Disclosure featuring Sam Smith | Latch | 2 | 28 | 32 | 3 | Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX | Fancy | 28 | 27 | 28 | 6 | Katy B | Crying For No Reason | 27 | 26 | 30 | 4 | Anastacia | Stupid Little Things | 26 | 25 | 29 | 5 | Sara Evans | Slow Me Down | 25 | 24 | 9 | 19 | Beyonce | XO | 3 | 23 | 27 | 7 | Jetta | Feels Like Coming Home | 23 | 22 | 22 | 9 | Fall Out Boy | Young Volcanoes | 22 | 21 | 26 | 8 | Coldplay | Midnight | 21 | 20 | 24 | 8 | John Martin | Anywhere For You | 20 | 19 | 23 | 9 | Ciara featuring Future | Anytime | 19 | 18 | 15 | 12 | LeAnn Rimes featuring Rob Thomas & Jeff Beck | Gasoline and Matches | 14 | 17 | 18 | 10 | Rascal Flatts | Rewind | 17 | 16 | 20 | 11 | DJ Cassidy featuring Robin Thicke & Jessie J | Calling All Hearts | 16 | 15 | 19 | 8 | Lady Gaga | G.U.Y. | 15 | 14 | 17 | 8 | Berlin | Animal | 14 | 13 | 4 | 21 | Duke Dumont featuring A.M.E. | Need U (100%) | 2 | 12 | 16 | 14 | Kylie Minogue | Into the Blue | 12 | 11 | 13 | 9 | One Direction | You and I | 11 | 10 | 11 | 16 | Hunter Hayes | Invisible | 10 | 9 | 12 | 10 | Justin Timberlake | Not a Bad Thing | 9 | 8 | 8 | 18 | Paramore | Ain't it Fun | 8 | 7 | 10 | 13 | John Newman | Losing Sleep | 7 | 6 | 6 | 16 | Rudimental featuring Emeli Sande | Free | 6 | 5 | 7 | 16 | Beyonce featuring Jay-Z | Drunk in Love | 5 | 4 | 5 | 16 | Kacey Musgraves | Follow Your Arrow | 4 | 3 | 3 | 16 | Darling Parade | Crash & Burn | 3 | 2 | 1 | 17 | Neon Trees | Sleeping With a Friend | 1 (7) | 1 | 2 | 15 | SoMo | Ride | 1 (1) |
DROPPERS:Tiesto - Red Lights (from 40) Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers - Lay Me Down (from 38) Mary Lambert - She Keeps Me Warm (from 36) Steve Grand - Stay (from 31) Karmin - I Want it All (from 25) DEBUT CORNER:"Am I Wrong": The unique sound of this song is definitely to its benefit - easily seeing a strong run for this song here. "Love Never Felt So Good": Yes, I'm sticking to the solo version for charting it here. I'm not sure how it'll end up faring overall, but it's nice having a throwback MJ sound in the mix. BTW, Michael Jackson is the second artist to reach my chart posthumously. The first was Aaliyah, with "More Than a Woman" and "I Miss You". I don't remember her peaks for those songs, though. "Rather Be": This has had to build steadily over several weeks before finally reaching my chart. I alluded to this before, but originally I didn't care for it nearly as much as other Pulsers. So I let it sit for a bit, then came back to it several days later - it was at that point where I was like, "OK, this is a song that I can gradually get into." I do think that "My Love" will end up being the bigger hit here, but this might end up having a steadier run (similar to the one Kylie's been having). "My Love": Much more instant than "Rather Be", I would see this flying upward very quickly if not for the very strong chart crowd currently in the mix. The number of house tracks that have surfaced in some form this year is nothing short of mind-boggling, and what's also great is that no two of them sound even close to exactly alike. "In Your Shoes": Told ya Sarah would be back soon. ;) Definitely like the more uptempo sound to this one, and I definitely plan on keeping this one around for a while as well. :) Well...after 7 weeks on top, Neon Trees topple over down to #2. SoMo ascends the throne this week, but will have to fend off Darling Parade if he wants to stay up there. Also note the three double-digit droppers this week, and the nine-notch drop from #4 for Duke Dumont - this week's chart, essentially, covers two weeks' worth of chart action, and none of those drops would have been so drastic had I posted a new chart last week. John Newman matches the #7 peak of "Love Me Again" this week. Even moving just one more notch up will be challenging, though. Paramore spend their sixth nonconsecutive week at #8 with "Ain't it Fun", and by now it's clear to me that they're not going any higher. Hunter Hayes reaches Top 10 territory with "Invisible", but he too might not be going much higher if at all. Not giving up, though, is Kylie Minogue, up another four to #12. With songs peaking in the Top 10, the door seems to be opening for her to get in there soon. I'd predicted that "Gasoline and Matches" would hit the Top 10, but I didn't count on getting sick of it so soon. Alas, LeAnn and company don't look to be headed anywhere but down now. Fall Out Boy spend a third week at #22. You guessed it; they too are in trouble. Though Katy B is only up one this week, leapfrogged by both Anastacia and Sara Evans, she's not even close to peaking yet. Her case is more of the pendulum swinging against her at the moment. The same cannot be said for Hot Chelle Rae and Prince, spending their fourth and third weeks, respectively, at #33 and #34. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

CHER LLOYD!!! "Fancy" also seems to be smashing the hell out of this chart! :o at the Jess Glynne double debut (In a row even, such a feature queen). Nice at "Am I Wrong" and the solo "Love Never Felt So Good" debuting. GAH 1D SO CLOSE TO THE TOP I CAN EVEN FEEL IT OMG at the drops for Duke and Bey...

Duke probably would have been something like 4-8-13 and Bey like 9-15-24 otherwise, instead of 4-4-13 and 9-9-24 respectively.

DROPPERS:Nelly Furtado - Red Balloons (from 38) Prince featuring Zooey Deschanel - FALLINLOVE2NITE (from 34) Hot Chelle Rae - Don't Say Goodnight (from 33) DEBUT CORNER: "West Coast": Nice mellow vibe coming from this one. I'm not sure how high it'll get since I'm not strongly into it, but I'm thinking it'll easily last the summer. "Peace": Love the melody of this one. With basically no other folky music on my playlist at the moment, this stands out. :) "I'm Not Your Hero": Another song that's been steadily building for weeks. What really appeals to me about this song is the semi-activist subject matter in it. It basically fits how I've felt as the local LGBT ordinances have been considered in my area over the past few months - I was too nervous to actually get up to speak at meetings debating them, but damn if I wasn't (obviously) supporting them. SoMo rides to a second week on top, but Darling Parade continue to have their sights set on getting there themselves. Looks like a fight in the works for next week... Another week with a top half of the chart slowing down, but I definitely think we'll be seeing things pick up soon. Note the ages of many of the upper tier - many of the upper half, including the entire Top 6, have been around for at least four months here, and that's not even counting time spent building before reaching my chart. As indicated by Paramore finally losing their bullet and dropping from 8 to 13, look for these to be peaking soon and start dropping themselves. Course, on the other end of the spectrum we have Miss Little Engine That Could, Kylie Minogue - now just one notch away from reaching Top 10 territory. She could still very well get there... Another one seemingly running out of gas this week is Fall Out Boy, in their 4th week at #22 and losing their bullet this week. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

I'm really pulling for "G.U.Y". I'm happy that "Drunk in Love" ended up being a top 5 for you.

SoMo at #1 Unfortunately, I have to disappoint you on that score this week... :( @jf816: Kacey up one more. I'm really loving the bottom of the chart, with "West Coast", "Let Her Down Easy" and "Am I Wrong" the last one is probably one of my favorite songs out now.

So many great songs here! Keep going "Fancy", "Midnight", "Crying For No Reason", "West Coast", etc.
