I'm surprised Hunter's re-release isn't doing as good as I hope it would. I know it's just a re-release, but I expected bigger numbers from him.

I think the album's already sold about as well as it's going too.. There just wasn't much need for a re-release. The effort might get it past a million, though

Pretty much all albums get leaked before release, so why single any one act out when a leak happens?
Considering the circumstances, the numbers for West's album aren't too shabby.

I'm not feeling bad for Kanye.
It'll be the second biggest debut of the year.
J. Cole will be the third biggest debut of the year.
We need some chart excitement!

I was skeptical of 500k when they predicted it. For being such an acclaimed album that did have hit singles, MBDTF didn't shift on par with what one would perhaps expect and then there's this, which had no pre-release singles. In no way is over 350k opening in any musical climate a flop. Even in the times people really bought albums, any week with over 200k was great. The issue with MBDTF was that 60% of the album was given away for free during the G.O.O.D. Friday series. It turned out to be a great body of work, but one that was already heard by the majority of people. I was in the crowd of being dissppointed by only getting 3-4 new tracks.

Billboard 200 Chart Preview: Kanye West's Lead Over J. Cole Shrinks News/
By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | June 21, 2013 8:10 PM EDT
After three full days on sale, Kanye West's "Yeezus" is still forecast to be No. 1 on next week's Billboard 200 chart. However, its lead over J. Cole's "Born Sinner" has shrunk to about 50,000 copies.
Industry sources are now projecting that "Yeezus" could finish the week (which ends at the close of business on June 23) with 330,000 to 340,000 sold. On Wednesday, insiders had pegged the album to start with 360,000 to 380,000.
As for J. Cole's second album, "Born Sinner," its forecast is steady: the set should sell 280,000 to 300,000. On Wednesday, sources said it might do 270,000 to 290,000 -- with 300,000 within reach.
Sources have continually said that there will not be a "race" for No. 1 and that "Yeezus" is a lock for No. 1. It will mark West's sixth chart-topper.
The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of June 26.
West's last solo album, 2010's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 496,000 sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Its sales were boosted by its release during Thanksgiving week of that year -- when Christmas gift shopping kicks into high gear. J. Cole's 2011 debut, "Cole World: The Sideline Story," opened at No. 1 with 217,000 sold.
This week's third-biggest release, Mac Miller's "Watching Movies With the Sound Off," is on track to sell about 100,000. That's off from the 144,000 start that greeted his 2011 No. 1-debuting set "Blue Slide Park."
If West, Cole and Miller all sell 100,000 of their respective albums this week, it will be the first time since November 2006 that we've had three hip-hop albums debut with 100,000 or more. That Thanksgiving week saw the release of Jay-Z's "Kingdom Come" (680,000), Snoop Dogg's "Tha Blue Carpet Treatment" (264,000) and 2Pac's "Pac's Life" (159,000).
On SoundScan's Building chart (below), West is at No. 1, followed by J. Cole and Mac Miller, respectively at Nos. 2 and 3. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking, reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants.
As for the rest of the top 10: Kelly Rowland's new "Talk a Good Game" is No. 4 and should finish in that slot on next week's official Billboard 200. Sources say the album might move around 60,000. Hunter Hayes' self-titled set is No. 5, thanks to a newly released deluxe version of his album. Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" is No. 6, Black Sabbath's "13" is No. 7 and Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories" is No. 8.
Closing out the Building Chart's top 10 is Florida Georgia Line's "Here's to the Good Times" and "The Voice" winner Danielle Bradbery's iTunes-exclusive "The Complete Season 4 Collection" compilation. The latter title may not finish in the top 10 once the week is over, however.

Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

That's why you don't see me arguing with the person who said Nas and Jay Z. They are in the discussion. Kanye is a horrible lyricist. Kanye is a great producer. But his lyrics are pathetic.

'Rolling Stone' Crowns Eminem The King of Hip-Hop
By: Kelly Schremph (August 17,2011)
7:47am EDT
We all know Michael Jackson was and forever will be known as the King of Pop, but have you put much thought into who would make a fitting King of Hip-Hop? Rolling Stone magazine has and they recently revealed their list of today's top rappers in the game, which included names Kanye West, Jay-Z, Eminem, Lil Wayne, and Drake. Seems like pretty fitting contestants, since they are the dominating rappers on the billboard charts. So which artist received top billing on the magazine's hip-hop chart? The results are in on who deserves the honor of wearing the highly coveted hip-hop crown. And the winner is...
Eminem! Wait...what?! Am I the only one surprised with this verdict? Between Kanye and Jay-Z's well-known success in the music industry and Drake and Lil Wayne's ability to pop out a hit single almost every week, you'd think one of those guys would walk away the Ruler of Rap. What gives? Apparently this decision was based on a variety of aspects of the nominees' careers, including albums released from 2009 to the present, album sales, rankings on the R&B, hip-hop and rap charts, YouTube video views, social media, concert grosses, awards and critics' opinions. And Marshall Mathers STILL won? Evidently he took the title based on his album sales (7.5 million during the time period) as well as YouTube views (1.3 billion) and social media (44 million Facebook likes and 5 million Twitter followers). See Kanye, this is what happens when you hijack a mic from T-Swift -- that s**t comes back to haunt you.
This still doesn't seem fair, but the magazine claims, "We're not looking for the all-time greatest, although many of our contenders would vie for that crown. Some of them have only been recording a couple of years; others have been in the game since the 1990s. But that's what makes hip-hop exciting – it's plausible for someone who was watching cartoons when Jay-Z dropped his debut album to emerge as a contender for the title." Still sounds rather slim shady to me, but hey it's their list -- their decision.
Here's where everyone else ranked (notice our girl Nicki Minaj is representing the ladies):
1. Eminem
2. Lil Wayne
3. Drake
4. Kanye West
5. Jay-Z
6. Nicki Minaj
7. Rick Ross
8. Ludacris
9. Gucci Mane
10. T.I.
11. Snoop Dogg
12. Diddy
13. Pitbull
14. Fabolous
15. Wiz Khalifa
16. B.O.B.
17. Waka Flocka Flame
18. Lupe Fiasco
19. Kid Cudi
20. Big Boi

Both Eminem and Kanye West are very revered for their work- let's just leave it at that. :)
Hope West's album trends a bit upward from the projections, but, in any event, a strong week for hip=hop album sales.

I think Kanye is one of the greatest producers. His lyricism is why some don't consider him the best.
Eminem's below par lyricism on Encore are why some are hesitant to put Eminem at the top. But for the most part his lyricism is on point.
Jay and Nas have had below par albums as well. Basically when it comes to the greatest ever there will never be a consensus. Point is some major publications have Eminem. Some have Jay. Some have Nas. Some have Pac. Some have Biggie.
I just am hesitant to put Kanye there yet cause of his lyricism. Ye's first two albums i loved but everything since i have not. But if some have and want to put Kanye up there than cool. I just need him to get back to his early lyricism.
I just want good music. The banter between fans is fun but really it is what it is. Eminem doesn't consider himself the best. He just thinks he deserves to be mentioned with and I believe Em at least deserves that.
But for the people who say Jay, Nas, or Pac. Hey, they have legit arguments. Some people Lyricism means more to than others. Some people think Production means more.

CHART MURMUR: Kanye West's Yeezus (Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam/IDJ) dropped off this weekend while J. Cole picked up steam, bringing the top two debuts on our building chart closer together—though, as expected, Kanye remains on track to hold the top spot. Meanwhile, Interscope's OneRepublic got a huge boost from being featured on The Voice finale, getting an expected boost in the neighborhood of 400% over the prior week. What about the week's other debuts? How will last week's chart champs fare? Keep checking our Building Album Sales Chart for updates. (6/24p)
