I'm pretty sure Miranda will win FVOTY again. Miranda wants her 4th win to join the ranks of legends like Reba. Not only does she have the infamous Blake/Miranda/Reba voting block, she also has the frat-country (Jason/Luke) voting block. The ideal country female singer among the frat-country voters is a talented woman that can hang with the guys (i.e. loves beer, trucks and guns) but also feminine and pretty. That's Miranda! There's no way Carrie (or Kacey with her truck-hating agenda) will beat Miranda anytime soon. She has Blake fans, Jason fans and Luke fans all voting for her. ...she has Blake fans voting for her, that's definitely for sure, but Jason and Luke fans? I wouldn't go that far at all. This could be the year Miranda goes down and someone else takes the trophy, and the most likely candidate for that honor would be Carrie. The mere thought of Carrie having less FVOTY trophies than Miranda Lambert drives me bonkers. I love both of them, but the better vocalist is obvious. Miranda in the same ranks as Reba and Martina McBride for most FVOTY wins? Here's hoping the voting block loses its steam this year. Side note, but after finding previous FYC ads, it was noted that Carrie wasn't in the second round of voting for the 2010 CMA EOTY trophy, which was when most people expected her to get nominated. The same went for 2012. She is in the second round because it was on her FYC ad and Moon Mullins voted for her in the fan-vote he held on his website this year, so I wonder if the outcome will be different now that we have insider knowledge of the process of this show a bit more than usual.

Also, with a more narrow list of names, it may be easier for voters to decide who's most worthy. In other words - when looking at a list of 20+ artists, it can sometimes become challenging to narrow your list down to the top 10. But when you're only looking at 10 names or so - it might be easier, from that list, to decide who's worthy. Does that make sense? So Carrie being in the top 10 (I think) may work to her advantage because on a shorter list of names, it might be easier to identify that she had a "bigger"/"better" year when comparing her stats to the others on the list. ... Just my little hopeful theory.

The award for Female Vocalist Of The Year isn't for the best singer though, it's for any female solo singer and who had the best year. If it was for the best singer in the entire genre Carrie might not have had any wins cause there's arguably always been better singers out there. I'd rank Reba and Trisha as better vocalists than her easily and in all her winning years one or both of them were active. I never had a problem with any of Miranda's wins for Female Vocalist. Now her wins in Song Of The Year for "Over You" that I had a problem with...

Now her wins in Song Of The Year for "Over You" that I had a problem with... While it's not entirely about vocals, I do think vocals have something to do with the award. Hence the "backlash" when Taylor won - it wasn't anything huge, but I do remember her winning the award sparked some questions as to what the award pertains to; vocals, success, or both? I think both - Carrie won her three because she was the biggest female in country during the time; Taylor won because she was undeniably the biggest female in country in 2009, and Miranda since then for the same reason. However, in the past, Reba won during years she wasn't exactly the 'biggest' or 'newest' thing in country - same with Martina, and I do think their winnings had something to do with vocals AS WELL as their past and current success (at the time). For the record, I think if it were about vocals only, Carrie would have about 7 or 8 trophies - but that just goes to show the subjectivity of vocals.

Well we all know that it's not about the best vocalist, which is still why I think that, if there's any year that Miranda will have to be seriously concerned for losing her streak, it'd be this one, and Carrie's the one who'd be the most likely to take it from her.

I would actually be ok if it goes Miranda Lambert FVOTY, Luke Bryan MVOTY, and Carrie Underwood EOTY, or Carrie FVOTY, Luke MVOTY, and Jason Aldean EOTY. Carrie is long overdue, so if she walks away with one of these I would be excited. I have mixed feelings with Luke and EOTY. I don't want him to get too much too soon, but on the other hand I want him to because he's had a huge year and would be more than deserving. It will be very interesting to see the final nominations, and who will end up winning. As long as Luke and Carrie both win something I will be content. :)
I'm going to say this again, I'm so happy I fell in love with country music 10 years ago, and watch their award shows instead of shows like the VMAs. Yes, sometimes country award shows can be a little inappropriate with the jokes and comments, but overall they are a lot more classy. I hope and pray it stays this way and never changes.

I apologize for making this so much about Carrie, but I just needed to say it.
It seems absurd to me that Carrie has not taken home a single CMA Award in five years. Not one. Oftentimes I see comments like, "Carrie fans can't expect her to win everything". I don't. I just think it's absurd that she hasn't won anything in five years. The last CMA Award she won was in 2008 for Female Vocalist of the Year. Since then, she has:
-Released 10 singles, 9 of which hit #1 on Mediabase or Billboard airplay (I Told You So, Cowboy Casanova, Temporary Home, Undo It, Remind Me, Good Girl, Blown Away, Two Black Cadillacs and See You Again) and the remaining song hit #2 (Mama's Song). All of which had music videos that did quite a bit of damage on GAC and CMT (aka, some of them broke records for most weeks at #1) -Headlined two record-breaking tours, both of which played to over a million fans (not to mention her generous charity donations from tour proceeds, such as the $1 million that went to the Red Cross from the Blown Away Tour) -Began touring as an international artist in London, Ireland, and Australia (she even played a show in Singapore during the Play On era) -- of note here is that she presented herself as a country artist no matter where she went, rather than labeling herself as pop internationally as some artists do -Done commercials and ads as a Vitamin Water and Olay spokesperson -Broadcast her own variety/holiday show, which I believe had over 7 million viewers -Co-hosted the CMA Awards for five years (this year will be her sixth) -Released a tour DVD that debuted at #1 -Released two albums, both of which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart (and Blown Away spent more than seven weeks at #1 on the country albums chart) -Sold millions of albums: Play On has sold over 2 million albums, and Blown Away has sold over 1.5 million albums -Sold millions of singles: I Told You So (platinum), Cowboy Casanova (2x platinum), Temporary Home (platinum), Undo It (platinum), Mama's Song (gold), Remind Me (2x platinum), Good Girl (platinum), Blown Away (2x platinum), Two Black Cadillacs (gold), See You Again (gold). -Shared the stage with legendary artists ranging from Steven Tyler to The Rolling Stones to Tony Bennett -Been cast in the starring role in a live three-hour broadcast of musical classic The Sound of Music -Made her big-screen debut in Soul Surfer -Made her small-screen debut in How I Met Your Mother -Is one of the only modern Opry members to take seriously her commitment as a member, playing over 35 times in the past few years -And much more that I'm surely forgetting at the moment
It just seems crazy to me that with all of her success in the past five years, CMA voters have not felt her worthy of a single award. And considering the criteria for the Entertainer of the Year category, I have a hard time understanding how she hasn't even been deemed worthy of a nomination thus far:

Miranda had a couple 'big' years, and one HUGE one, but her stats just don't stack up to Carrie's. Taylor's do - but she's in a whole other league/genre to be honest. Regardless, the post was not designed to compare Carrie to her counterparts, but to show how well she has done over the years despite essentially being snubbed for 'Entertainer' on an annual basis.

Basically, I know others have had huge years too and huge successes. I'm not trying to deny them that. Just pointing out all of Carrie's stats that have been pretty much ignored for five years by voters. I'm certainly not expecting Carrie to win EOTY this year, even if by some miracle she gets a nomination. I'm not even really expecting FVOTY, despite Miranda having straight up told everyone that Carrie deserved to win after the ACMs. Though Miranda seems to have less momentum lately, I'm still fully anticipating the voters to be on her side. I'd just like to see Carrie walk away with something, anything, after all this time.

These awards shows are absolutely rubbish, and the winners basically whoever appeals to voters the most. The show lost pretty much all its credibility about 10 years ago, and is a shell of what it used to be when the show was about the music and not the ratings. If people like George Strait were winning awards over Blake Shelton/Jason Aldean etc the portion of viewers who skew into pop music (and reality tv) would watch much less. I'm not saying George should win anything except mention in album of the year, but winners typically are who these fringe country fans want to win.
I'm not saying any of this is right or wrong, but thinking these awards are the end all be all of who is more worthy or career achievement is just silly. Save the hassle of worrying about winners and just hope they play country music this year.

I always think of alternative reasoning to see the CMA's side of things and (like to think that I) start to understand why other artists are nominated over Carrie, but then I just look at the stats that Carrie's compiled compared to everyone else and just give up on trying to step into the associations' shoes. One of the biggest things that always seems like a "creme of the crop" honor that she fulfilled is the fact that she sang the National Anthem at the Superbowl in 2010, and she sang it live, at that, which is something that is annually worrisome and often not recommended by the NFL due to, well, potential disasters. IDK. I'm not holding out for an EOTY nomination this year, either, since it's never happened yet, but this year seems like the year she would get it above all other years. Not sure, not confident, not hopeful, but I am anxious. 8 more days!

Miranda really doesn't deserve it this year; I think it will come down to Carrie and Taylor.

If you are referring to this 2010 CMA FYC ad and this 2012 CMA FYC ad, then they were released for the third round of voting (after nominations had already been announced). So I don't think that the ads are an indication that Carrie wasn't included in the second round voting for Entertainer in those years. kml567, as carrieidol1 pointed out, the CMA Awards don't represent a fan vote. Your point may still hold if you replace "fans" with "affiliated team members," though. In particular, Miranda is the only female contender who is represented by William Morris Endeavor Nashville (the booking agency), the agency that also represents Jason, Luke, Brad, Blake, etc. Carrie is represented by Creative Artists Agency, but her agent is LA-based, not Nashville-based (Lady Antebellum and Keith Urban are also represented by CAA, but through its Nashville office). Also among the voters are promoters like those from Live Nation (which is working amphitheater tours from Jason, Luke, Blake, etc.) and AEG Live (which works stadium and/or arena tours from Kenny, Carrie, Taylor, Lady A, etc.). If Jason, Luke, and Blake are all up for Entertainer as most of us expect, we can expect some vote-splitting there unless agents and promoters agree to focus on one per category. There are also songwriters and publishing houses to consider. The Peach Pickers tweeted urging their followers to support Luke for the fan-voted ACM Entertainer award, which I thought was somewhat interesting considering that Blake's single at the time was a Peach Pickers song. On the other hand, Luke goes way back with the Peach Pickers. Obviously, songwriters and publishing houses are more likely to support artists who have cut and released their songs. About Album of the Year, this 2011 blog from the CMA site says this is the criteria:Unless the "at least 75% of the product in the album must have first achieved national prominence during the eligibility period" part now means that if 3/4 or more of the album's singles have been released during the eligibility period, then the album is eligible (which is possible, I guess), I'm not sure how Blown Away is eligible this year, since it was released and sold over 500K copies in the 2012 CMA eligibility period. On the same logic, I guess Hunter's Encore might be considered eligible by virtue of "Wanted" having peaked during the eligibility period followed by "Somebody's Heartbreak" and "I Want Crazy"? Seems a bit sketchy to me, considering that "Wanted" and "Somebody's Heartbreak" were on the original version of the album. Maybe the CMA album rule now looks more like the ACM album rule, which allows an album a second year of eligibility if that second year sees a higher chart peak or higher total sales than the first. I'm pretty jaundiced when it comes to these awards shows in general, but I will say that I'm looking forward to seeing whether the Grammy nominations contrast with the CMA/ACM nominations this and next year as they have in some years (seems like it is every alternate year, including last year). This year, the Grammys have a great opportunity to nominate some of the year's most acclaimed albums, including Ashley Monroe's Like a Rose, Kacey Musgraves' Same Trailer, Different Park, and possibly Annie Up by the Pistol Annies and Bakersfield by Vince Gill and Paul Franklin over albums from the likes of Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan that will no doubt receive CMA and ACM support despite deservedly mediocre reviews (Kacey, in fairness, may contend for CMA and ACM album nominations as well). The Grammy nominations process is less subject to the usual industry interests (see: "Over You" not factoring into the Grammy nominations in any category), which opened the door last year for much-deserved nominations for Don Williams, Jamey Johnson, Vince Gill and the Time Jumpers, Ronnie Dunn, and Alan Jackson despite a lack of chart impact. I hope that the Grammy nominations continue to recognize a wider swath of country music than the mainstream arm of the industry supports.

I wouldn't get my hope high since it's CMA and we all know they will snub Carrie no matter how successful Carrie is and no matter how talented Carrie is.
I'm just hoping she will host the show incredibly and i hope she will sing WINE AFTER WHISKEY.

The award for Female Vocalist Of The Year isn't for the best singer though, it's for any female solo singer and who had the best year. Agree. And it's even more justified to have Carrie win over Miranda this year since she's had a bigger year, especially during the eligibility period. "Best singer" is definitely very subjective since it depends on the person's taste as well. Likewise, if it is entirely up to my preference of vocals ONLY, Miranda wouldn't even be in my Top 3 every year.

Well the big announcements are in the morning! What a great excuse to drink before Noon! I say take a shot for every Luke, "Cruise" or Miranda nomination and chug a whole bottle of Jack Daniels if Carrie gets snubbed yet again for EOTY!

I'd totally join in if I didn't have classes tomorrow! Hahaha. Fingers crossed for Carrie, but I'm not expecting anything!

So interested and excited to see the nominations! Pretty much this is how it will go, I will do a backflip if Luke is nominated, 2 backflips if Carrie is nominated, and 3 if Rascal Flatts get a vocal group nomination. Then I will add a few if I hear Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban's names at least once. Not sure how this will work since I can't do a back flip, but you get the picture.

I have work so I can't get drunk, but I'm always down to play a drinking game. To avoid getting drunk, mine will be to take a shot of vodka for every nomination Carrie gets. One shot will be enough to start my day!

Duo:
Big & Rich Florida Georgia Line Love & Theft Sugarland The Civil Wars Thompson Square
Yes there are six nominations there.
New Artist:
Lee Brice Brett Eldredge Florida Georgia Line Kip Moore Kacey Musgraves
Male Vocalist:
Jason Aldean Luke Bryan Eric Church Blake Shelton Keith Urban
My opinions: I am a big Sugarland fan but totally don't get that nomination especially considering that category had five other nominations besides them. It was just odd. Yes, they both did things solo but not as a duo unless they are counting that and the little bit of touring that happened last summer after the deadline of last years CMA. But it makes no sense to me at all. Sure, The Civil Wars don't make a ton of sense but at least they had an album out and press in the past year regarding their split and the album. That makes more sense that Sugarland to me.

Call me crazy, but I really thought Carrie was getting an EOTY nomination this year... :( I truly don't think it'll ever happen. If 2013 wasn't big enough for her to earn one, I'm not sure she ever will. It's kind of a shame that Taylor Swift, who CLEARLY transitioned to mainly Pop, is still being recognized by the CMAs. While Carrie, who was undeniably one of the biggest country stars of 2012/2013 was overlooked, again. It's really just a shame... And I know, based on previous years when Carrie stated she was a little upset, that she's surely upset again - she deserved it more than ever this year, and more than at least two nominees on that list. SMH.

I can't believe their are six duo nominees, and that George got in on Entertainer. Otherwise my predictions on the first page are pretty well spot on. Got the Female Vocalist completely right, missed one on Entertainer, Duo and New Artist and missed two on Male Vocalist

George had an awesome tour and sold out every venue. I'm totally thrilled that he got a nod.

It baffles me that George straight got nominated for entertainer of the year. I can see male vocalist but not entertainer. What has he really done this year aside from having 1 number one hit and another low peaking song. Maybe I'm wrong and they basing it on touring I don't know, I just think there are others that have had way more impact this year. Eric church, Darius Rucker, Carrie underwood, Miranda lambert, hunter Hayes, heck even broad paisley had a bigger he than george. If ent he had the 60 for 60 and maybe this is there way of honoring him and I know he has virtually no chance of getting it, it just seems like a wasted space for him in my opinion when they could have given him a lifetime achievement or something. I don't think brooks and Dunn got an entertainer nomination when they quite touring together. In short while I respect his past work I haven't seen anything this year to warrant the nomination

I am happy he did as well, just surprised. He did take Carrie's potential slot, however, as the other four were shoe-ins

Definitely rooting for George, it'd be a great way to cap off his touring career.
