I still can't believe "Blurred Lines" has been at #1 for 12 weeks on the Hot 100, wow I'd have never thought Robin Thicke was going to score such an enormous hit lol but it's a catchy tune but people really like this song, more than 5 million (the fastest song to sell that much) and a HUGE radio smash.

To me, Get Lucky and Blurred Lines have been sort of cousins this summer if you know what I mean. They have same kind of appeal which never seems to fade. Get Lucky is better song but those two have similar vibe in them.
Now I'm waiting for Lose Yourself to Dance to chart...

I think she will hold #1 on digital, I don't think Eminem's lead was very big when he was #1. Either way, he will enter behind her and Thicke on the Hot 100 for sure due to their airplay.

The whole top 5 and all except one in top 8 in decline? Haven't really paid attention that much but it must be quite rare.

ss8- "most of the "world" doesn't buy a heckuva lot of one track or another; rather, "most of the music-buying public" would be a better phrase. (Or maybe you meant "rest of the world" to mean just that, since BL's "only" sold 5 million or so hehe)

Most meaning more than half. With the millions of songs purchased each week, 5 million, is hardly a high % The 'world' or 'general public' is a pretty broad term, since many in the world do not buy music, many do not have an itunes account and many who do listen to music, do not listen to pop songs

Assuming Roar is going to be the next #1, if she keeps gaining on average 2.5 million a day and BL loses 2.5 million a day, that's still 34 days before Katy dethrones him. :o

"Blurred Lines" has sold 1.25 million+ in the UK and will likely sell 1.5 million+ and enter the top 20 best selling songs of all time list.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/5679834/mtv-vmas-spur-early-gains-for-miley-cyrus-nsync-justin-timberlake-and-moreMTV VMAs Spur Early Gains for Miley Cyrus, NSYNC, Justin Timberlake, and More By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | August 29, 2013 Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke and Justin Timberlake were all big winners during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), even though only Timberlake actually won any awards. Cyrus and Thicke paired for a buzzed-about performance during the Aug. 25 show, while Timberlake reunited with his bandmates in NSYNC and took home multiple trophies. In the week ending Aug. 25, NSYNC earned a 184% rise in album sales and a 226% lift in song sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group’s albums shifted 6,000 for the week, while its songs moved 28,000. While both numbers are small, they will likely grow next week after there’s been a week of impact after the show. The current week's charts only reflect sales through Aug. 25, the day of the show. (SoundScan's tracking period runs Monday through Sunday each week.) SoundScan will release the sales figures for the week ending Sept. 1 on Sept. 4. The premiere of the 2013 VMAs garnered a total audience of 10.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen -- a gain of 66% versus the 2012 show. This year's show returned the VMAs to a Sunday night TV slot after a move to Thursday in 2012 (and a drop in ratings). Timberlake's digital song sales grew by 7.5% for the week, up to 319,000. His albums also saw a bounce, increasing by 8% to 20,000. Cyrus released a new song to digital retailers the day before the VMAs, so her weekly sales comparison is skewed. The new track, "Wrecking Ball," debuts this week at No. 13 on the Digital Songs chart with 90,000 sold. If we combine her "Wrecking Ball" sales with the rest of her previously available music, her weekly song sales stand at 258,000, a gain of 50%. (That includes Cyrus songs credited to her former Disney character Hannah Montana). However, without "Wrecking Ball" in the mix, Cyrus’ song sales were actually down by 2%. Industry forecasters suggest that "Wrecking Ball" will see a spike in sales for the week ending Sept. 1, possibly growing to 175,000 and 200,000 in its first full week on sale. That would mark a gain of 95% to 123%, depending on how the song finishes the week. Cyrus' "We Can't Stop" -- which was part of her VMAs medley with Thicke -- might sell between 140,000 and 150,000 in the week ending Sept. 1. This past week, it moved 143,000 downloads. Cyrus began her VMAs performance with "We Can't Stop" and it transitioned into a medley with Thicke for his songs "Blurred Lines" and "Give It 2 U." Cyrus' overall album sales for the week -- combined with her "Hannah Montana" output -- sold less than 1,000 copies. (She has released three studio albums and one EP, in addition to numerous "Montana" albums.) Cyrus' upcoming album, "Bangerz," is due out Oct. 8 on RCA Records, her debut for the label. She previously recorded with Hollywood Records. Other VMAs participants that are seeing early gains for their music include Bruno Mars, Kanye West, Iggy Azalea, Thicke, Drake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Mars' song "Gorilla" -- which he performed on the VMAs -- jumped from 2,000 downloads to 20,000 in the week ending Aug. 25, up by 1,003%. West's VMAs-performed "Blood on the Leaves" jumps 182% to 10,000 downloads. Azalea, who was a presenter and nominee for her song "Work," watches "Work" climb with a 156% gain to 10,000 downloads -- its best sales week yet. The song is also building steam at radio, as it is just under the threshold of the Rhythmic airplay chart this week. While Thicke's "Blurred Lines" was down by 14% in sales this week (251,000), his "Give It 2 U" saw a robust increase of 79% (selling 24,000 for the week). Sources tell Billboard.biz that "Blurred" will likely dip down in sales again in the week ending Sept. 1. Drake performed a two-song medley on the VMAs -- "Hold On, We're Going Home" and "Started From the Bottom" -- the latter of which earned a sales gain this week. "Started" moved 21,000 downloads for the week, a gain of 42%. "Hold On" is down by just 1% (to 89,000). Many big debuts, like Drake's "Hold On" -- which bowed with 109,000 -- tend to decrease in sales in their second and third weeks, before stabilizing and moving back up the chart. Finally, we come to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Same Love." The song was performed on the show and earned a VMA for best video with a social message. In turn, the tune nabs a 6% sales gain (rising to 89,000) and will likely grab another increase next week.

^That's info fore the 9/7 charts. Billboard is previewing the 9/14 chart, though: www.billboard.com/articles/news/5679974/robin-thicke-or-katy-perry-wholl-be-no-1-on-next-weeks-hot-100Robin Thicke or Katy Perry -- Who'll Be No. 1 on Next Week's Hot 100?By Gary Trust, New York | August 30, 2013 We're in for another fight for No. 1 atop next week's Billboard Hot 100. Thanks to expected sales spikes due to the MTV Video Music Awards, Robin Thicke and Katy Perry look to be neck-and-neck in the latest projections for the chart's top spot, to be revealed on Billboard.com next Wednesday (Sept. 4). This week, Thicke's "Blurred Lines" (featuring T.I. and Pharrell) spends a 12th week at the summit, fending off Katy Perry's "Roar," which holds at No. 2. Meanwhile, Eminem is due to blast in with his new single "Berzerk," while Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus should also see post-VMA increases. PROJECTING SALES According to industry sources, "Roar" could sell 450,000-475,000 downloads for the tracking week ending Sunday (Sept. 1). She performed the song to close out the VMAs last Sunday (Aug. 25). "Lines" is projected to sell 225,000-250,000 following Thicke's much-buzzed-about performance of it at the VMAs with Miley Cyrus in a medley with her "We Can't Stop." Her hit, which currently ranks at No. 3 on the Hot 100, could sell 150,000 by the end of the tracking week. (Her new single "Wrecking Ball," which enters the Hot 100 at No. 50 this week with 90,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, is projected to jump to 190,000-200,000.) The VMAs opening number, Lady Gaga's "Applause," at No. 4 on the Hot 100 this week, is forecast to sell 200,000-225,000. The other song headed for a high sales start is Eminem's "Berzerk," which should start with a lofty 350,000-375,000. The song previews Eminem's new album, which was teased in a commercial during the VMAs; "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," a sequel to his 2000 album "The Marshall Mathers LP" (which has sold 10.7 million copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan) is due Nov. 5. NEXT WEEK'S HOT 100 What do all these numbers mean for next week's Hot 100? Presently, it's too early to tell whether Thicke will add a lucky 13th week at No. 1 with "Lines" or Perry will notch her eighth Hot 100 leader with "Roar." The race simply looks that close. Combining the sales projections above and taking building Nielsen BDS data for airplay and streaming (the components which join sales to form the Hot 100's three measurement metrics) and projecting it over a full week, the songs are in extremely close proximity. (On the current Hot 100, "Lines" leads "Roar" by 13% in overall points. Last week, "Lines" sported just a 3% advantage.) "Lines" should still lead the Radio Songs airplay chart next week, although it's declining in points, while "Roar" should pounce into the top 10. Both songs are projected to gain in streaming, with their streaming sums potentially not far apart once a full week of data is compiled. Meanwhile, Eminem, with the expected high sales for "Berzerk," along with early airplay and streaming (it ranks just below the 75- and 50-position thresholds for Radio Songs and Streaming Songs, respectively, on each building chart as of this posting) appears likely to debut in the Hot 100's top five, jockeying for position with Cyrus and Lady Gaga in the region. Check Billboard.com on Wednesday (Sept. 4) for all the songs' official figures and to find out who claims the Hot 100's coveted crown. The refreshed Hot 100 will appear in full on Billboard.com next Thursday (Sept. 5) and in next week's issue of Billboard magazine.

So, Katy's sales on her third week will be around 1.4 million total. She should easily tie Flo Rida for fastest 2x platinum song, (5 weeks).

I think it's safe to say that Katy will go #1 this week then.

Will 200K be enough for Wrecking Ball to go top 10?

Will 200K be enough for Wrecking Ball to go top 10? I'd love it and it'll definitely peak in the top five, but not this week. They really should have release it on a Monday, that 90+200k would put her in the top ten for sure, but I can still see anything from #14 to #20.
