This is Britney's "Discipline" era. She truly is the new Janet. ummm no even Discipline sold nearly twice what Britney is going to sell. Discipline was still about to push 180k after several flopped albums back to back. Let's be honest 115k is probably being kind. That was 5 years ago, boo. "Disclipine" would most likely sell less now and "Feedback" wasn't bigger than "Work Bitch".

I think what is driving the decline in diva albums is a combination of the yearly decline in album sales and online streaming. For instance why would I pay $14.99 (or in Lady Gaga's case $17+) when I can stream and even sync it for offline play for free? Personally I only buy CD's from my absolute fav divas and buy digital albums when they're on sale for dirt cheap.

So it may sell-through after next week and completely drop off the charts. (Similar to Cities 97 sampler that hit 10 last week and is gone.) I wonder if Wal-Mart will ask for additional stock to carry them through the holidays.

Google Play saved my life and bank account from buying trash albums. $7.99 for all you can stream, even 1st day releases at midnight.

Yes, they dropped the price by a buck last night from their BF sale.

OK, but why would you pay that 3.99 you mentioned when you're already paying 7.99/9.99 every single month for Google Play/Spotify?

Because in the event I cancel my subscription I'll always have that album. I generally buy digital albums at $6 or less.

How were Miley's and Katy's sales more disappointing? Miley outsold her entire last album's sales in less than two weeks. But given how massive their radio hits and digital sales were along with them doing so much promo and being discussed everywhere online, in magazines, etc., many expected higher opening weeks. Especially Miley since she has been getting nearly nonstop media attention since "We Can't Stop", but it went to a whole new level when she did that VMA performance with Robin Thicke. That was kind of the basis of my blog post I wrote yesterday that focused on ARTPOP being labeled a flop even though it's sales have been on par with both Prism and Bangerz, in terms of first week's sales and ongoing sales. (ARTPOP has sold more in its first 3 weeks than Bangerz in its first 3, for example). www.themaxonline.net/2013/12/04/when-is-artpop-an-artflop/

^Yeah, that makes sense for your favorite artists if you want their complete collection in physical or digital format.

This was my prediction. I'm gonna say around 130k. There's no hits, no promo planned and she's seen as more of a veteran than ever before. So a bit less than that. Still not surprised though.

Garth Brooks is still a beast. Wow, and that's without digital sales - that says something!

HITS is significantly lower than many people's predictions in the Predict "Britney Jean" First Week Sales thread, so for everyone to say they're not even slightly surprised is kind of saving face, lol.

Hmm, is Sams Club part of Wal Mart, if not, wonder if they purchased 500k also.

^I'm sure the 500,000 for Walmart includes Sam's Club.

I hope Britney works with Luke and Max for the next album. They always do really well together.

Anyone saying Britney's numbers are 'respectable' are in denial. We've seen a lot of artists that have hardly done promo reach much bigger numbers. I mean, Britney hasn't performed but she has given plenty of press interviews and appearances here and there. Is that enough? No, but again - it is PROMO.
This album will probably never cross the 300k mark when it is all said and done.

"All For You" debuted with over 600k and "Damita Joe" did well over 200k. Hardly call any of those albums flops.

When the term "worldwide" is invoked in a US based discussion regarding "flops", to me that gives the "flop" statement more credibility, not less

I'm sure ARTPOP will drop below the comparison numbers when it reaches the point that Prism and Bangerz got the Black Friday increase (week 6 and 9, is it?)

Yeah because the hard numbers are fake, even when it involves an odd week like Black Friday. Obviously I'm aware that AP's third week was Black Friday, hence why I acknowledged in my post above that it still has to contend with the equivalent week for Prism and Bangerz.

Sorry about that. I just realised that my statement was overly dramatic and probably a bit harsh. I see what you were trying to say.

Discipline was widely regarded as Janet's best album since AFY and VR. Janet had been 4 years since her last Top 20 pop hit. Britney's album was sold during the highest sales period of the year. Janet's was sold during the slowest time for record sales during the year. Discipline probably could've pulled in 300k if it was released around Christmas time. Britney is on track to barely sell 100k during the holiday rush when people have their wallets out and will buy anything.

When do we normally get the prediction numbers? It's later today right? Really want to see how Leona will do. I think she can do 15-20k hopefully!

^HITS did not mention Leona yesterday. Her album was not pictured in the Target or Best Buy circulars. She did perform last night on NBC which I'm sure is going to help.
HITS will give us the Top 15 later on today.
