It is completely obvious to me that Sony is still participating in some form of payola with this record... and here's why.
My country station, KMPS in Seattle, had a contest running even BEFORE the single was released....they promo'd it forever. When the single hit the air, every time you hear the song, be caller number whatever to win the CD when it comes out at the end of Sept. and qualify for a trip to see Gretchen in Chicago w/ Kenny and Pat.
Is it completely obvious to anyone else that Sony is providing all this stuff for this station to market the song so strongly right off the bat!? Sounds fishy to me... never heard that done with any other single... even Faith's big comeback single. A contest with a single?! Weird. and fishy.

Sounds fishy to me... never heard that done with any other single... even Faith's big comeback single. A contest with a single?! Weird. and fishy. I was never under the impression that the label putting up money for fan giveaways was a form of payola. Honestly, that sounds like good marketing to me. But giving an all expense paid trip for a PD to go to Chicago, or get a flat screen TV, or tickets to the superbowl, etc. in return for airplay or as leverage for a fellow label mate is certainly payola. I'm sure other people on this board have a better understanding than me. I might be totally wrong. Of course, I think there are worse things going on in the music industry than payola... like, where has the music gone? Maybe if the majority (there is some) of artists and music being made out of Nashville was really great, then payola wouldn't be needed because there wouldn't be as many artists, etc. etc. There are a lot of things screwed up in this industry that needs to be ironed out way before it gets to the radio stage of things. Let me add a huge JMO here. ;)

Since she's already on 111 stations, and 105 added the song this week, then KMPS must have been one of those stations that added it right 'out of the box'; there's a very nice story on PD Becky Bremer in the newest issue of R&R in part II of Lon Helton's look at the female PDs of country radio.
DSince KMPS did hit #1 in Seattle a year or two ago, Ms. Bremer is obviously VERY good at her craft!!!

I just heard this song a few minutes ago for the first time and I don't like it. Hmm... and I like Gretchen Wilson's music. This one just doesn't do anything for me. It sounds weird to me. Oh well... my opinion obviously doesn't matter.

I saw the entire video on tv, instead of on a computer, for the first time the other day.
I am not impressed at all.
When listening to the song, I thought it sounded like Montgomery Gentry's "All Night Long." The lyrics of the two songs are different, but the music is another story.
Also, the concert/bar footage in the video is an obvious rip off of Gretchen's own "Redneck Woman" video. Switch the "guest stars" of the videos around, and you've got her "new" video for "All Jacked Up."
Just further proof, imo, that Gretchen is all hype.

Enough for the writers of All Night Long to sue for plagerism, I think. However, I do like the song. I think it's fun... and funny. But yes, the video is unimpressive and same-old.

I can only hope that this does NOT go to #1 under any circumstances.
There are several songs on the charts which should go to #1 WELL ahead of this dreck, with Faith, Tim, Jamie O'Neal and Trace Adkins hopefully all getting there before Keith Urban hits #1 by the first week in October for another 4-6 week stay in the penthouse.

What does "should" go to #1 mean? I don't think Jamie O'Neal's song has even a 1% chance of going to #1. I"ll give you Faith, and Tim can never be counted out. I'd say Paisley has a real shot, and Sara Evans is very likely to make it. Urban probably won't make it until November (using Billboard chart dates) but he's very likely to make it. But I'm with you on the ABG point of view. (Anyone But Gretchen)

Those are just my opinions regarding whom I'd like to see hit #1. Urban only needed 10 weeks for 'Makign Memories Of Us' to hit #1, so hitting #1 by early October isn't that much of a stretch, at least @ R&R.
Eeven if Ms. O'Neal doesn't make #1 (and I'm inclined to think that she won't), it's still one of my favorite songs of the year, and I'm glad she's back on the radio.

Gretchen is going to have some serious competition on her album release date. A couple huge artist are releasing their album the same day.

Last week's BB claimed she has the highest debuting single by a female ever (#21), and second overall to Garth (The Thunder Rolls)!
Good for her!

She's #10 on Walmart's Top 100 download list-where it is an exclusive. Only other country song ahead of her is Toby at #6

Well well well... Gretchen's got some ready-made product placement going on there... Skoal... Budweiser
I've liked some of Gretchen's songs but the more I hear of All Jacked Up and the more I see the atrocious video for it, the more I loathe the song and the fact that country radio is eating it up despite it being absolutely nothing special.

"One Bud Wiser" was recorded by John Rich for the Brewed In Texas compilation CD (2002).
Gretchen Wilson and John Rich performed "Skoal Ring" on the Muzik Mafia CMT series earlier this year.

One Bud Wiser is a very clever title...but this album looks to be the same old, same old.
I enjoyed some of her debut CD, especially 'Homewrecker', but I'm not going to rush out and buy this new record...

I enjoyed some of her debut CD, especially 'Homewrecker'... The best stuff on the debut was in the last half of the record, imo. If Sony didn't want to portray the 'redneck' of Gretchen, the singles should have gone: 1) Redneck Woman 2) When I Think About Cheating 3) When It Rains 4) The Bed 5) Here For The Party

But I think that Sony's whole strategy was to portray the redneck. You gotta admit they were very smart to do that... and their strategy paid off.

I agree about them trying to portray her as a redneck. All the females in country seemed to have a nice little glow around them and it was hard for the everyday woman to have something in common with them. Bringing out the redneck thing with Gretchen was brilliant in my opinion. I don't really care for it but she has established her self in a nice niche that country music didn't have for a long time.

As expected, Gretchen made it to #10 on this week's BB chart and sets the record for the quickest rise to the Top 10 by a female artist since BB started using Nielsen BDS information for their chart. The record broken was 4 weeks which had been set by Faith Hill with "Mississippi Girl" and Shania Twain with "Love Gets Me Every Time".
Now, if we could find someone that actually likes the song...

Hey, I love this song. Congratulations to Gretchen. I've actually only heard this song once and that was the live version on the Fan Fair special (I forget what they call it now) that was on a few weeks ago. I do listen to the radio a decent amount of time, but for some reason they haven't played it yet in my neck of the woods. So I was alluding to the opinions that I have heard on this board from a majority of the posters. It just seems strange that so many people have said they don't care for the song and yet it is having the opposite reaction at radio, as it achieving success so quickly. The next step would be to break the record for the quickest to #1 in by a female artist (under the new methodology). Not even sure what the current record is for that, but I would think Gretchen would have a good shot at it based on these early results.

I knew what you were getting at just wanted to stress again that not everyone hates this song :)
I wouldn't really judge the success of a song by what goes on here. This is really a small community of people who are interested in charts, positions, etc.. Average Joe listener probably doesn't give a flip and could care less...JMO..

Or, a majority of Gretchen's target audience, redneck women ages 18 to 54, don't have internet access.
