Records are made to be broken, c'est la vie. I just hope this isn't the result of money.

GRETCHEN WILSON All Jacked Up Producer(s): Gretchen Wilson, Mark Wright, John Rich Writer(s): G. Wilson, J. Rich, V. McGehee Publisher(s): various Genre: COUNTRY Label/Catalog Number: Epic (CD promo) Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: August 27, 2005
Gretchen Wilson slammed onto the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart with one of the most anticipated new singles in recent history. The fiery, uptempo "All Jacked Up" debuted at No. 21, taking the Hot Shot Debut and Greatest Gainer honors in the Aug. 13 issue and making history as the highest debut for a female artist in the monitored-airplay era. This is the lead single from Wilson's forthcoming set and mightily demonstrates her ability to avoid that ol' sophomore slump. The tune has the elements that radio has come to expect from Wilson—a lyric that will grab audiences by the ears and a tour de force vocal performance. Her "Redneck Woman" persona is fully engaged on this potent barroom escapade, and listeners will want to roll the windows down in their pickup trucks and sing along. —Deborah Evans Price

When I first heard this song, I wasn't to fond of it. I thought that it was just like 'Redneck Woman' and 'Here For The Party'. But I gotta tell ya, the video made me love this song. I think it's HILARIOUS. I love how all her band members are drinking while playing their instruments. That cracks me up!

On Billboard's latest chart today, she bullets at #11, down 1, but actually loses audience. Any ideas why? Could this song be like Shania's I'm gonna getcha good, where it rushes up, and stalls in the lower top 10?

Could this song be like Shania's I'm gonna getcha good, where it rushes up, and stalls in the lower top 10? i think whats happening is there was so much anticipation for this song that the stations basically just played the heck out of it...now it looks like it is back to a more normal play pattern...i think it will let the older songs ahead of it in the top 10 have their run and then it gets interesting from there...does it make its move back up the top 10 then or does it stall out like u said...also, maybe its a case of the 1st single not being the best chartwise just like tobys 1st single honkytonk u #8...2nd single as good a i once was #1...time will tell.

I agree with the first part. I think the song is moving back to where it should be with the callout and level of requests. All stations jumped on it right away, hot shotting it in the rotations. Now, its moving to where it should be realitive to the stations.

Is it a little strange that it lost 18 spins in the top 25 markets after gaining hundreds the first few weeks?

Wilson Pressed on Smokeless Tobacco By ROSE FRENCH, Associated Press Writer Thu Aug 25, 7:01 PM ET The state attorney general wants the country singer who made the song "Redneck Woman" a hit to stop "glamorizing" the use of smokeless tobacco at her concerts. State officials said Gretchen Wilson can be seen on concert jumbo screens pulling a can of Skoal from her pocket while performing her new song, "Skoal Ring." That may violate the 1998 settlement between states and tobacco companies forbidding tobacco ads targeting young people, Attorney General Paul Summers said. "Many young people attend your concerts and purchase your music and T-shirts," Summers wrote in a letter he sent to Wilson Thursday. "Because your actions strongly influence the youth in your audience ... I ask you to take steps to warn young people of negative health effects of smokeless tobacco use." Calls to Wilson's representatives at her music label Sony Music Nashville were not immediately returned Thursday. Wilson won wide acclaim and a Grammy with her debut single "Redneck Woman." The title of her song "Skoal Ring" refers to the wear mark left by carrying a can of smoking tobacco in a pocket of blue jeans. In the final verse of the song, Wilson sings that she gets turned on by the taste of smokeless tobacco on her man's lips. The landmark $206 billion tobacco settlement "provided that advertisements such as this would be and should be prohibited," Summers said. The U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co., which makes Skoal, signed on to the tobacco settlement and agreed not to sponsor concerts under any brand names or enter into any sort of agreement with an artist to display or make reference to their products. U.S. Smokeless Tobacco does not have an agreement with Wilson or any artists to promote its products, said company spokesman Mike Bazinet. Summers said his office is also contacting the company about the use of its products at Wilson's concerts. ___ On the Net: www.gretchenwilson.comwww.ussmokeless.com/

hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/G/GRETCHEN_WILSON_TOBACCO?SITE=TNNAT&SECTION=ENTERTAINMENT&TEMPLATE=DEFAULTAug 26, 6:45 PM EDT Rep: Wilson won't use Skoal can in concert By ROSE FRENCH Associated Press Writer NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Country music's "Redneck Woman" promises to keep her can of Skoal in her back pocket from now on. Tennessee's attorney general had asked Gretchen Wilson not to pull out a can of smokeless tobacco during performances of her new song "Skoal Ring" because it glamorized tobacco use. A warning letter said the routine might violate the 1998 tobacco settlement, which forbids tobacco ads targeting young people. Attorney General Paul Summers said the singer's representative apologized Friday and said Wilson would not use the Skoal can in concert again. It was not used at a Cincinnati concert Thursday night, his office said. "I appreciate Ms. Wilson's attitude," Summers said in a news release. "I thank her very much. This quick and positive response speaks well of her as a professional artist, as a good citizen, as a parent and as a role model for youth." Wilson won wide acclaim and a Grammy with her debut single "Redneck Woman," a defiant anthem of girl power. "Skoal Ring," from her upcoming album, "All Jacked Up," refers to the wear mark the tobacco cans leave in a blue jeans pocket. Wilson also stated through her representative that she has no relationship with U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co., the manufacturers of Skoal. Since Wilson has agreed to quit displaying the Skoal can, it "pretty much resolves the issue," said the attorney general's spokeswoman, Sharon Curtis-Flair. Calls to Wilson's representatives at her music label Sony Music Nashville were not immediately returned Friday. © 2005 The Associated Press.

Gretchen has said in an interview that she does "dip". This really makes no sense. People can go and drink and concert tours can be sponsored by beer and liqour but SKOAL??? :oSurely not. This is silly. I dip and drink and seeing someone famous do it or not will not make me want to do it less or more. Parents need to step up and take care of thier children and let them know what is good and bad.

Yes, she dips, she has said in a interview before she likes the "CHERRY" flavor.
You are MISSING the whole point, this controversery stems from the fact that the TOBACCO industry inlcuding SKOAL signed a agreement that does NOT allow advertising, artists promotion of use, or other means to promote tobacco, that in any way can be a sign that it targets kids. I think that is a good thing.
I was born and raised on a farm in Eastern Kentucky, so people that smoke and chew is nothing new with me.
I've also seen the effects smoking and chew can do on a person health. Dipping is a big problem with teens and is more widespread than you think.
You have to remember there is a DIFFERENCE between alcohol and tobacco. Alcohol YES, can cause health problems and many other problems, but if used in MODERATION will not harm you and actually there is studies where it can be benficial to your heart. I AM TALKING MODERATION HERE, NOT ABUSE.
SMOKING THERE IS NOT ONE THING POSITIVE ABOUT IT. There is ZERO BENEFIT TO IT. There is NOT one thing that you can say that is a positve about it, or ONE thing that is a benefit to your health. IT IS LIKE GIVING YOUR BODY A SLOW POSION. SO TO COMPARE ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO IMO IS TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.
People have their right to smoke but I have my right to not have it in my space.

Does Gretchen not have the right to say that she dips in concert? She siad it in an interview. The same people that will see her in concert will probably read an interview by her. She's promoting it either way. Also I guess this means that htis song won't be a single? Trace Adkins sang about a skoal ring in his Rough and Ready single and no one said anything about it.

The problem they were having with Gretchen is she was taking the dip can out of her pocket onstage and that went against the agreement that tobacco had SIGNED. REMEMBER the tobacco industry signed this agreement.
I for one am glad not to see the tobacco ads that IF YOU ARE HONEST was geared to bringing in a NEW generation of smokers, the children.
If it was up to me smokers would not be able to smoke in PUBLIC at all, unless it was an area where the ventilation could keep it away from non smokers. That is my opinion.

This has nothing to do with the companies though, unless they asked Gretchen to show it. So, technically, they should have asked her to remove it on morals, not laws. But kudos to Ms. Wilson for removing it from her show.

Ok, back to the music.....
I've heard 5 songs from the new CD and I admit I'm biased but these are some d**n good songs.I can't wait to hear the whole CD.
I heard Skoal Ring, Rebel Child, Raining On Me, Not Bad for a Bartender and Good Morning Heartache
Rebel Child has been rerecorded--its not the same version from the Redneck Woman import single & still a d**n good song
If they release Skoal Ring as a single it will be huge
Raining on Me is a great ballad, really shows off her voice
Not Bad for a Bartender has a great honkytonk feel
Good Morning Heartache is really really good-recorded in just one take, using only 4 musicans and one microphone
Probably the most traditional sounding songs I've heard in a long time. Lots of steel, lots of fiddle, some great piano work. Sept. 27th is too far away......
To hear the songs you have to preorder the CD from Amazon and then you will access to the songs..they say 5 but its really 6, "Heartache" is a hidden track after "Bartender".

It will be VERY interesting to see if the CD debuts at #1 on September 27th, considering the rather short period of time between the release of the single and the CD's release.
Considering how depressed the retail music biz has been the past four years, with the notable exception of country, debuting at #1 is a possibility.
With new CDs from Tim & Alan coming next year, country music continues to outperform virtually every other genre out there.

Gretchen is going to have some stiff competition for #1 there is some stiff competition from artist that sell first week numbers way higher than Gretchen ever has. She will defintley will debut #1 on the country charts, not sure about the 200 chart.

Lately, the #1 album has been on top with numbers historically low! Depending on competition, I'm thinking she's got a really good chance at #1 on both. I think she's got fans other than country too!

There is a few dates between now and the end of the year, I can promise you that a country album is NOT going to debut #1 on the Billboard Top 200.
August 30- Brooks and Dunn they have zero chance of landing at #1. Kayne West's second album comes out that day, he had over 400,000 with his last album and I would bet his numbers will be higher ths time. He is getting rave reviews. Cover of Time this week, on Good Morning America and even Oprah next week. I was so impressed with his performance on the Grammy's this year, I bought his album and will buy his new one. He is a genuis IMO.
September 13th- Trisha, Patty(who I love) and Lonestar don't stand a chance of landing #1 on Billboard Top 200. Trisha's first week numbers on her last album was 45,000, Patty's last first week numbers was 15,000 and Lonestar's last studio album first week numbers were less than 100,000.
September 27th. It is a toss up and Gretchen could possibility debut #1
October 4th- Sara Evans has zero chance with the albums being released.
October 18th- Martina has zero chance.

Yep, because on those weeks it takes more than 300k sold to hit #1. Gretchen will pull out the #1 I do believe, but I haven't looked at the other genre release dates to see about the other weeks.

I think her biggest & only competition will be the new Sheryl Crow disc. I won't even try to guess on Crow's fanbase. I know its been a long time since she's had a CD out, but it seems like she's more known as Lance Armstrong's girlfriend lately then a performer
Gretchen has already 2 big appearances lined up that week..a concert on the Today show and Regis/Kelly so that will help

I think Gretchen might end #1, I think Little Kim(guess that is how you spell her name) releases her's that day, and she had huge numbers with her last one. The other country acts I mention have zero chance.

If you look at my post, I only covered a few dates. I covered the dates for Brooks and Dunn, Trisha, Sara, and Martina's ONLY.
I have no idea what else comes out the date Kenny's is released. Kenny on his last couple albums has played it safe and released in January and Feburary when generally the big names don't released their albums.
This is the first time I think he has released in November at the time all the big guns come out, so it will depend what is coming out that week,
Kenny's last album came out in January with around 430,000 its first week and has sold just under 1 million since.
In 2004 in Feburary his first week was around 545,000 and that album has sold just over 3.6 million since then. That is highest first week sales of his career.
The rap artist 50 Cent is releasing some kinda album and DVD this fall. So what ever week that is the competition is dead in the water. If it is the same week as Kenny's then forget it Kenny will be dead in the water for #1 on Billboard.

Kenny will definitely be # 1 on both the country albums chart and the Billboard 200 chart when his cd comes out. His team knows how to pick release dates where nothing huge comes out, and they've done it again. On November 8th, the only major new albums coming out are Kenny Chesney, an album by Neil Diamond, an album by Lenny Kravitz, and an album by Kate Bush. The rest of the cds coming out are collections of old material from ABBA, Anastacia, Patti Smith, and Sonny Rollins. No competition at all for Kenny, as usual. The only[/U] way that Kenny won't debut atop both charts is if Santana's new cd does huge numbers when it comes out the week before (November 1), and has a huge second week when Kenny's comes out.
