I think Garth Brooks will still be #1.

Considering it's only available on iTunes and was released halfway through the sales week, #1 for Beyoncé's album is probably a stretch. Curious how much it will sell though. Maybe she'll surprise us again!!

Her album is quite expensive though. I guess you can't have just the songs since its a visual album. Wonder if that will affect sales.

Whole project is quite insane given the time of the year: visual album, iTunes only and middle of Xmas shopping but she has the right to do whatever she wants I guess.
Do you think this is the album Sony didn't want to release earlier this year?

I don't see Queen B.'s album ranked on iTunes; surely it's selling something?

Since it has only been about 8 hours or so, the only ones that will know about it are people here and others who continuously monitor iTunes/music news
Otherwise this should be a slow seller and not get anywhere near #1

Not a chance for #1 because 150k or so is huge number for a digital album even with months of awareness.
Btw, my friend said it's a disappointing album, haven't yet listened to it myself.

I don't see Queen B.'s album ranked on iTunes; surely it's selling something? People at UKMix said iTunes was frozen. My circle of friends on Facebook are all talking about Bouncey's new album.

Yes, those are the people that would know about this album 8 or 9 hours after its release. The ones that actually know that iTunes is frozen.
For others, it may take some time

For Beyoncé, I predict a top 20 debut and then it might climb into top 5 next week.

For others, it may take some time My UKMix comment was aimed at the poster who wanted to know about iTunes. My Facebook comment was to acknowledge that people do know about the new album early on a Friday morning. My friends that buy albums were talking about it. Word spreads fast via social media. Billboard just sent me an email about Bouncey's album. #QueenBey is trending on Twitter.

Any sound of music numbers? The HITS Top 15 for next week will be out later today. It sold 38,000 this week. Do you know what promo Masterworks who put out the Sound of Music soundtrack typically does for their artists? No Britney or GaGa... Or Miley... Shocked at Boyle possibly being Top 10... Why shocked at Subo in the Top Ten?

I'm wondering what the goal of this Beyonce release is.

^^Because the album did not do well when it was first released.
There was zero promotion for it. Her US fans wondered why the album release seemed to be a "secret."
But, Susan has been getting a lot of publicity about being diagnosed with Asperger's.
And she has been doing tv performances.

I'm wondering what the goal of this Beyonce release is. Just to do something that has never really been done before. A digital album with 14 videos! Will she promote it? Will she send a single to radio?

Boyle also is in that Christmas Candle movie, but it's only had a limited release and has not fared well. Does she even sing in the movie?

200K for a digital only album (with no radio singles) in 3 days with no word of its release until last night?
Even a heavily promoted album with lots of hits would have trouble with an itunes only album in that time period

Beyoncé’s Surprise Release Trending Towards No. 1After a stealth Thursday evening (9 p.m PT) release, Beyoncé’s self-titled fifth solo studio set is likely headed towards a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 when that chart’s top 10 is revealed on Wednesday, Dec. 18.The iTunes exclusive “visual” album, retailing for $15.99, contains 14 tracks -- not available for a la carte purchases until Dec. 20 -- and 14 accompanying videos, along with other bonus video content. As of this morning, no set date has been announced for the CD release to physical retailers or of its availability on other digital download sites. In just a three-hour sales window (closing at midnight Friday PT), “Beyoncé” reportedly sold over 80,000 copies, according to industry sources. It’s still too early to judge what the set will do over the full three days left in the sales tracking week (which ends Sunday night), but with prior projected leader, “Blame It All On My Roots: Five Decades Of Influences” by Garth Brooks, estimated to shift 150,000-160,000 units, Beyoncé is already halfway that sum. And in the time it would take someone to fly from New York to Miami. The album release was so heavily guarded, that reportedly only a dozen or so members of her Sony Records family even were aware of the set being pushed to iTunes yesterday evening. Beyoncé’s last studio set “4” sold 310,000 in its debut week in July of 2011, but that was with a full sales week and a marketing/media push leading up to the release. It is an interesting commentary on the influence of social media in today’s world if “Beyoncé” can come close to that sum with just social buzz driving the project instead of weeks of traditional media promotion normally part of the album release playbook. Stay tuned to billboard.com as we track “Beyoncé’s” sales over the course of the weekend and predict where the album will land, both in units and in rank, when the top of the Billboard 200 chart is revealed on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
