Looks like the headlines on this will have to change. From Hits: CHART MURMUR: It's now looking like Disney's Frozen soundtrack will have another week at #1 on the HITS Album Sales Chart. Kudos to label chief Ken Bunt and the frozen head of Walt. The chart's still building; keep watching and stay tuned for our wrap-up when it closes tomorrow afternoon. (1/13p)
So no Beyonce #1 this week

'Frozen' May Ice 'Beyonce's' Return to No. 1 on Billboard 200 ChartIt seems Beyonce may not be heading back to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart after all. Last week, industry forecasters pegged her self-titled album to skip back to No. 1 this week -- pushing the current champ, the "Frozen" soundtrack, down to No. 2. However, sales of "Frozen" over the weekend were stronger than expected, and it now seems like its will trump "Beyonce."Sources project that "Beyonce" sold around 78,000 to 81,000 for the week ending Jan. 12, while Disney's "Frozen" maybe sold 83,000 to 86,000.The official sales figures, as tabulated by Nielsen SoundScan, along with the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart, will be revealed on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Last week, sources pegged "Beyonce" to sell between 85,000 to 90,000 in the week ending Jan. 12, while "Frozen" was heading for 75,000 to 80,000. Over the weekend, "Beyonce's" forecast was scaled down to 80,000, while "Frozen" overperformed, and blew past its projection. The "Frozen" album wasn't heavily discounted or promoted unusually over the weekend, either. Sources credit the continued success of its parent film as the key driver in the album's sales. According to Box Office Mojo, "Frozen" has earned $317.7 million at the U.S. and Canada box office through Jan. 12. It finished at No. 2 at the box office over the weekend ($15.1 million), behind the new release "Lone Survivor" ($38.5 million).Since "Frozen's" wide release Nov. 27, 2013, the movie has been among the top three films every weekend at the box office. It is currently the fourth-highest grossing film released in 2013, behind only "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," "Iron Man 3" and "Despicable Me 2." The movie won Best Animated Feature Film at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Jan. 12. If "Frozen" is No. 1 on the Billboard 200, it will be the first theatrical soundtrack to rule for multiple weeks since "Dreamgirls" spent two weeks at No. 1 in early 2007. The last animated film to spend more than one week at No. 1 was Disney's "The Lion King," which roared for 10 non-consecutive weeks in 1994 and 1995.A week ago, the "Frozen" set jumped from No. 4 to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 165,000 copies in the week ending Jan. 5, according to SoundScan. It bumped "Beyonce" out of the No. 1 position after a three-week reign. Through Jan. 5, "Frozen" and "Beyonce" have sold a total of 503,000 and 1.43 million copies, respectively.

The music in Frozen is so good. I am glad to see it having so much success. I think it will eventually be seen as a Disney classic.

It is fun to see a movie soundtrack having a run at #1. Music from movies do not seem to have the same impact on the charts these days that they did in prior decades.

Could Frozen block Bruce this week? Well, I don't see him selling less than 100K. The MLK weekend will likely help Frozen in theaters which could translate to more sales for the soundtrack. Plus, it could get some more buzz this week when Oscar nominations are announced (assuming of course it gets nominations, which it likely will).

Frozen will get the Animated Feature Oscar, and most likely the Song award too. I don't see it getting the Best Picture nod. The last time an animated film made the cut, Toy Story 3, it got a much bigger push from Disney.
Hopefully Frozen sustains these sales and reaches a million. Would be the first soundtrack in years to do that I think, unless Pitch Perfect did it.

Yeah, those Best Picture nods for animated films are usually reserved for those universally beloved Pixar flicks.

Yeah, those Best Picture nods for animated films are usually reserved for those universally beloved Pixar flicks. Though Frozen seems to be picking up on that universal love. I'm not overly familiar with Oscar nomination history but how often has an animated picture received a Best Picture nomination and has it become more common now that they've moved up to having ten finalists? I could see Frozen making it in there.

There's only been three animated films that have ever received a nomination for Best Picture right? And two of them (Up and Toy Story 3) got them when they expanded the number of nominees. So it has a better chance since the number of nominees have expanded but the last two years haven't had animated features nominated in that category.
Hopefully Idina Menzel will perform "Let It Go" as the Oscars. That could give the soundtrack a nice boost.
