Even during the grunge/hard rock era of the '90s, the likes of Tori Amos, Bjork, and Sarah McLachlan were still able to get top 5 hits, so let's not with what's pop and what isn't. And if you tone down the production a bit, this could have easily come from Fiona Apple in the '90s.

:| None of this really makes sense. What the hell does Pulse have to do with that? You guys told me about it. I don't recall anyone telling you that it's unfair for lead singles to flop, only in some cases. I think you get that from "Entertainment" and its chart performance, but the bottom line is if the song doesn't have the audience numbers or the callout scores, it doesn't have a shot. I think "surprising" is a better word than "unfair" when it comes to lead singles flopping. And as for songs being "too poppy", you're missing the most important thing. People use it as a way of labeling songs they don't like to make it sound like their taste is superior, and to seem "anti-pop." What better way to make yourself seem anti-pop than to call songs that you don't like poppy.

I am Jack Bauer,DAMMIT!
But it does in the fact that it sings about not having much to do but "stay high all the time". She's f**ked up throughout the song. For the most part; as another member put it, It's anti-pop in its theme. "dark" and "moody" is a thin line. I respect the fact that some members might wanna view this song as "straight up Pop", but give more reason then just because it uses similiar instruments to pop music. that's a weak argument. I think Erin Go Bragh made a very interesting comparison to Fiona Apple. That's an excellent example why I view "Habits", Alt and hardly any Pop at all.

Her voice just sounds so irritating on this, especially the chorus. It gets stuck in your head in the worst way possible.

Lyrics= /= Atmosphere
not necessalry, but it doesn't steer it clear from it not being concidered a "moody/dark" atmosphere.
"Not On Drugs"= ,NOT really giving me as much of an alt feel as "Habits" did and It does bugs me that at times she kinda sounds a bit like Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez. The Dub-step; which I loath with a passion, doesn't help it out of the "pop" realm iether.

"Not on Drugs" is a Pop single to me both musically and in lyrical content. You can't tell me drugs aren't a Pop-friendly theme for a song when we have hits like "We Be Burnin' (Legalize It)".

Pipa
of course there has been a lot of songs about drugs on the pop charts throughout history. As far back as even say even the Beatles. It just depends on how its presented to the charts. 1975 "Chocolate" crossed over because of the slick way it sings about marijuana. Same thing with Tom Petty's "Last Dance With Mary Jane". Few acts like Huey Lewis and the News even use the word 'Drug" in the title. I just don't think it's going to happen with "Not On Drugs" regardless of how Pop the song's atmosphere is, which I agree it has. I'll even take it a step further, unless some AVICCI, David Guetta etc.. EDM remix comes out, the song is bound not to fare well on Pop formats. Those EDM remixes tend to hide the "drug" theme a lot better then the original mixes.

This song still sucks, but I've somewhat become desensitized to its crappiness. I don't really cringe anymore when I hear it on the radio.

This is #1 on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs. If this does get huge, this better not turn into a Lorde situation at award shows where this is nominated for the rock categories. Then we will know how much of a joke Billboard is now.

Oh, now I've seen everything.
so ; let me get this straight. The Billboard Hot 100 Rock Songs chart is a sham, but the Billboard Hot 100 isn't? Comon guys, WTF? At least the Hot 100 Rock songs chart, featutres songs from Rock and Alt charts. If you have been following BillBoard charts for as long as I have; you could actually concider that chart to be a more traditional Bill Board chart. I've only seen the top 25, but at least that list actually features some quality music.

Don't take it too seriously 2) just because a chart is missing lots of alt and rock doesn't mean it's wrong, it's just all the consumers who influence the chart, aka the PEOPLE BUYING THE RAP AND COUNTRY SONGS AND TUNING IN TO THE RAP AND COUNTRY STATIONS, BLAME THEM NOT THE CHART AGAJSHSJAKSJDJDJKSKSKSJDJDJSKSJDJDH
