PSA: Taylor Swift has released karaoke versions of all her albumsI've always been fascinated with instrumental versions of pop songs. There's a strange pleasure that comes with hearing harmonies or neat production tricks that aren't obvious in the album recording. As a kid, I'd fiddle with the headphone jack on my Sony Discman until the vocals would cut out and leave only the music behind — minus a few frequencies here and there. (In the modern world, smartphone apps like Capo can accomplish the same effect.) I'm also a full-on Taylor Swift junkie, so today my mind was turned upside down when I discovered that you can buy totally legitimate, officially sanctioned "karaoke" versions of every major Taylor Swift release. These aren't the awful karaoke tracks that have come to consume iTunes and Spotify, either. You know the ones; they sound like they were recorded by a mediocre bar band in an hour or two. Or maybe just one guy with a Yamaha synth. Nope. These are the real studio recordings. "Too many vocals remain to call these "karaoke" tracks, but they're a fun listen" Big Machine has issued karaoke versions of 1989, Red, Speak Now, Fearless, and Swift's self-titled album. Dear God, does Scott Borchetta know how to cash in. They're available from iTunes, but aren't super obvious and something tells me a lot of people have never even noticed them. One beef here: I'm not sure I agree with the definition of "background vocals" being tossed around by Big Machine. The album descriptions state these tracks strip out Swift's lead vocals, yet the entire chorus of "Blank Space" remains untouched. Same goes for "Style." What's the point of a karaoke take if I've got to bow out during the song's big hook? The verses have mostly vanished though, leaving these karaoke tracks to showcase the immense talents of Swift's gang of producers — a list that, for 1989, included Max Martin, Shellback, and Jack Antonoff. And that's the part I'm most interested in. Dear musicians everywhere: please do more of this. I just wish I could listen to the stuff on Spotify. That's my Discman nowadays. www.theverge.com/2015/2/19/8069781/taylor-swift-karaoke-albums

Happy to see 1989 still doing so well. Great CD by a wonderful artist.

I would take literally ANY song on the album as a single over Bad Blood, LOL.

They could go in so many directions with this next single, but I agree that it's going to be 'Bad Blood.' I think fifth will be one of the obvious singles (How To Get The Girl or All You Had To Do Was Stay) and then we will get a sixth single in either Woods or Wildest Dreams.
I don't see any of the bonus tracks getting released.

www.ifpi.org/news/Taylor-Swift-named-IFPI-global-recording-artists-of-2014IFPI recognized Taylor Swift as the year's top global artist, and it interestingly claimed 8.6 million global sales for "1989" to date. I believe that figure is based on shipments, but the use of the word "sales" seems to be causing a lot of back-and-forth on social media. For what it's worth, MediaTraffic's estimates have her global *sales* at just over 6 million. Given that we know she for sure has sold ~4.4M copies in the US, I'm inclined to see the MediaTraffic numbers as pretty accurate in this case. 8.6M, frankly, seems high even as a shipment total, but I guess that's what the label is reporting.

I think Bad Blood is the best choice for the next single.
I would love to see "I Know Places" as a single, but I don't know that that will happen.

I see "Bad Blood" getting a better reception than "Style", at the very least (particularly if there is a Kanye remix). The song is aching for a rap feature IMO. The buzz surrounding the feature, coupled with a good video (God willing) and I think she'll be back on track (digitally speaking, as sales for "Style" have been uneventful). I could see top five Hot 100 placement with an outside shot at #1.

We're going for a 4th single produced by Max Martin? I'm needing Out of the Woods next and then they can do whatever they want.

Yeah. Out of the Woods is still very high up there for me. Bad Blood has like 4 plays from me compared to teens and twenties for everything else. I'm also surprised that Style isn't the smash hit that people were shouting to the rooftops that it would be. It had to grow on me and it finally clicked but there are at least 5 more songs off the top of my head that are better songs. Better singles? Nah. Better songs? Absolutely.

4.) Out of the Woods 5.) Wildest Dreams 6.) New Romantics (if they go six deep)
Though I'm fully expecting Bad Blood to be in there somewhere (and I don't blame them as it would be huge), it can go away.

And that's the part I'm most interested in. Just thought I'd address this point; in those instances where the full vocal appears to still be there on the karaoke versions? It isn't. The lead vocal has been muted, yes, but along with all the backing harmonies is a double of the lead vocal, usually reduced in volume. This doubling-up is meant to thicken up the main vocal line and make it more prominent especially with a lot of overdubbed harmonies. Otherwise the lead vocal would get buried in all the built-up sounds and would be harder to pick out. I have first-hand experience in this from my own demo recordings.

I used to be very against Bad Blood as a single but then they played it at the bar a few weekends ago and... now I'm into it. A Kanye remix would be perfect.
As long as "Wildest Dreams" and "New Romantics" get the single treatment somewhere down the line, I'm happy.

I personally never understood the hate for "Bad Blood". Sure, it is one of the more simplistic tracks on the album (lyrically, particularly), but it is still a solid song and would make a strong single.IMO It is my fourth most played track from 1989:
1. "Out Of The Woods" 2. "Blank Space" 3. "Shake It Off" 4. "Bad Blood" 5. "All You Had To Do Was Stay" 6. "Wildest Dreams" 7. "This Love" 8. "How You Get The Girl" 9. "Wonderland" 10. "Style"

Confirmed by IFPI, the only official worldwide sales reporter, to have sold 40 million albums and 130 million singles worldwide.
Also, her show at Hyde Park in London has sold out as of today. The capacity, using other shows as examples, is usually 55-60k.

I would really like to see "Out of the Woods" as the next single but I have a strong feeling its gonna be "Bad Blood" especially if the rumored Kanye collab is true.

Watch Kanye be randomly on Out Of The Woods. Better a chance of that happening than New Romantics or Wildest Dreams being a single.

I'd be surprised if "Bad Blood" wasn't the next single. It's always sounded like a hit single despite being one of my least favorite songs on the album.

Taylor said None of this is true in regards to there being a Bad Blood remix with Kanye and it being produced by Ariel R.
There is a god and her name is Taylor. Now release Out of the Woods!

Sooooo.. If IKYWT was the same thing in the Brits as in the Tour, and she's already planning 1989 world tour.. is this how she's going to do it?
IF SO IT'S OKAY, IT'S AMAZING <3
