To me songs like Savin' Me, Lullaby and If Everyone Cared are terrific songs, it doesn't matter that they aren't heavy. and don't forget If Today Was Your Last Day, Far Away, I'd Come for You, Never Gonna Be Alone...!

I think "Far Away" is one of the premiere power ballads of our time.

you have your opinion and i respect it, but IMO especially "Far Away" is one of the best Nickelback songs, and "Never Gonna Be Alone" is underrated

Why so much hate for "Far Away"? "Lullabye" isn't far from that style, yet noone mentions that one. I like them both. The only beaf I would have with Nickleback would be Chad and how he traded in his rocker look for a boy band haircut. Probly the reason "Midnight Queen" didn't get a video made?

I actually really like "Lullaby". I'm not a fan of cheesy rock ballads at all, but that's a really well-written song musically, I think (maybe not so much lyrically). "Far Away" and "Never Gonna Be Alone" both set off my gag reflex instantly.

"Far Away" is arguably the biggest #1 hit on my chart. I want it played at my wedding.

"Far Away" is on my list of 10 worst songs of my lifetime. This is what gets me. While I love Nickelback, I can see their short comings and I can admit they've had wrote some questionable lyrics. But for people to single them out as the worst thing with heavy radio rotation is simply absurd. These type of people really haven't listened to enough music if Nickelback is at the bottom of their list.

I think he knows when a song goes beyond the "smart cookie-cut pop song" to cheesyland.

Aside from that, though, Jamie has made many posts in the past which have been very intelligible and I've come to respect whatever opinions he has. And I agree with him. Back a few years ago, Nickelback was my favorite band, but "Far Away" was by far, and still is, one of the most cheesy love songs I've ever heard.

I'm gonna go ahead and defend "Far Away" from Nickelback. There is nothing "cheesy" about it. It's a great Power Ballad song. The're are many great songs in that catagory...and they usually become some of the bands if not thier biggest hit. Power Ballads are the whole reasons banners(lighters) are held high in concerts.
Warrant - Heaven Winger - Miles Away Hinder - Lips Of An Angel Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing Kiss - Beth and Forever Cheap Trick - The Flame Def Leppard - Love Bites. Journey etc.....the list goes on.
If there is anybody who knows how to make a great Power ballad time after time, its gotta be rockers.

These type of people really haven't listened to enough music if Nickelback is at the bottom of their list. Devin listing my credentials aside...I don't think I'm your typical Nickelback hater that you should be singling out here. Sure, I hate that song. But to be fair, 75% of the population hates on and shits all over all things Nickelback blindly just because it's arbitrarily become cool to hate Nickelback, which is far more egregious than me singling out one song that I happen to hate. It's way too easy for people these days to make Nickelback the butt and punchline of every music joke, and people are doing it all the time. Those are the people to whom your comment should be directed. I like some Nickelback and hate some Nickelback and think some Nickelback is just ok. I don't preach my opinion as fact. I don't say all Nickelback is universally garbage or that Chad Kroeger is talentless because I don't believe either of those to be true. Chad is a great craftsmen of pop music with the muscle of rock & roll. That's who he is. It usually isn't my thing, but he's often quite good at it. "Far Away", to my ears, is godawfully cheesy to the point of intolerability. That's all. Not fact, just opinion. I am not your enemy. The unthinking public who hates on Nickelback because it's cool to hate Nickelback is. Go target them. And thanks, Dev, for having my back, homie. You know I got yours too.

^ Agreed, and like I said, I used to be a huge Nickelback fan back in my early teens, and still "Far Away" was easily my least favorite song ("Because of You" was actually my favorite, and The Long Road was and still is my favorite Nickelback record). Any song that uses "I love you" as the main hook is automatically categorized as cheesy IMO.

I guess my tolerance of ballads is much more lenient. I do think Kroeger can sell a song like that much better than most singers. I think his gravelly vocals sort of take some of sappiness from it. While its lyrically rather clichéd, I think its great pop/rock song.

Wait For Sleep is only 2 minutes long but it's still gorgeous for every second. Even though their 2000s material isn't as good, "The Best of Times", "Sacrificed Sons", "The Ministry of Lost Souls", "Endless Sacrifice" and "Along for the Ride" are still great.

Now THAT is one of the worst songs of all time. I disagree. I don't love Disney music, and some of it sucks, but a lot of it is quite impressive for what it is, just as is the case with some Nickelback. I'll vouch for this song from a compositional standpoint. "Far Away"...not so much.
