You almost had me there, Lordeftones... I wouldn't have doubted it too much either, seeing as both "Ho Hey" and "I Will Wait" went Top 50 on Active 2 years ago.

So I finally heard this song, and I can say that even though it's the most tolerable single she's released, as well as it sounding the "most Alternative", I think it's gonna have a rather fast burn rate. I'm not a fan of the lyrics as well.

Max to Max
No, but Teeny boppers; the premier listeners of mainstream pop usually do. From the sound of this new Lorde song; it doesn't sound quite Ring tone friendly, so that's another plus for it.

Are ring tones even still a thing?

I wouldn't mind whenever someone called me to hear "I'm going in - AHHHHHHH!"

Did you guys know the back-story of this song? It was SUPPOSED to sound like...
"Hunger Games, ya ya ya, ya ya ya, Hunger Games"

It doesn't seem that different from her other stuff.
I think some people have a narrow perspective about what makes a song pop. In the End itself isn't even nu-metal and even when their debut album was out, everyone said how they seemed pretty pop for their contemporaries. People even likened LP to boy bands then, no joke. Alternative and indie are really retroactive terms as far as I'm concerned. New wave and synth pop counted at the time because they were unique pop that wasn't just using conventional structure. Indie was underground even during grunge and more mainstream styles of alternative rock.
I'd argue that most stuff that fits radio formats tends to structurally be pop.

Nah, this has a darker vibe to it that her other songs didn't have. Yet, surprisingly, it's my least favorite song from her. It's still got that hip-hop beat that I'm not that big of a fan of. In the End is nu-metal, but I don't get how people could call them pop considering they always had that anger and heaviness to them on songs like "A Place For My Head" and "One Step Closer". Then again, I was 4 months old when Hybrid Theory came out, so... Pop isn't a structure, it's a genre, and it's all about the sonic qualities that it has. Lorde is sonically closer to pop then she is to alternative rock, so that's why I lump her into Pop. Pop isn't an insult, it's just a genre.

Who said pop was an insult?
I think the idea behind song structures and associated genres has a lot of weight behind it.

Who said pop was an insult? I think the idea behind song structures and associated genres has a lot of weight behind it. I don't think so, because 95% of music follows a V-C-V-C-B-C structure. The other 5% is prog.

Linkin Park belong to the nu-metal genre. It's that simple.

Part of what makes a genre of music is structure, along with lyrics, how songs are sung, what instruments are used, time and tempo, etc etc. Different genres are made up of different qualities that differ from one to another.

Disagreed on lyrics though, because anyone can sing songs about sex, love, politics and it'll still be the same genre.

Just to clarify are you describing the cheese as fucking as in "good fucking cheese" or are you singing a rock song about fornicating with cheese.

Just to clarify are you describing the cheese as f**king as in "good f**king cheese" or are you singing a rock song about fornicating with cheese. I think a song about fornicating with cheese is just the kind of stuff Alt needs right now... Let's try it with some Alt rock songs that have hit #1 this year... "Crawling back to cheese. The fermented milk.. has got.. me on my knees. I am begging please" "Love! The Laughing Cow. She's gonna take me now. WHOA! The Laughing Cow. She's gonna show me how" "I didn't know I was in love Til' I banged some cheese.. I WANNA GET CHEDDAR!.. CHEDDAR CHEDDAR... I WANNA GET CHEDDAR!"
