Not the topic. How they're written. Their form. Anyway, I feel like we're too off topic now and everyone has checked out and/or h8 us. We can continue this somewhere more appropriate or just end it here. Back to the Lorde, our savior. if i sing a pop song about murder, it's still a pop song. if i sing a rock song about f**king cheese, it's still a rock song. It's like you're trying to misinterpret what I'm saying. Every genre has songs about love, right? But the way those songs are written are different. Everything from words used, to line lengths to rhyme schemes. There's some crossover and often times songs get covered by acts of other genres but sometimes the way the lyrics are written can be a result of the genre and style they're written for. Stop being argumentative and accept that maybe someone can actually teach you something once in a while.

You can slot Lorde in the ;pop catagory if you so stubbornly choose to do so, but make sure you add words like Art, Indie, Dream, Electro after the word Pop. Have some respect for the artist.

People need to spend less time arguing about what to label a piece of music and just enjoy it or not or debate rather it is good or not instead. If you like it and think it is good then who really gives a crap what it is labeled.

I'm surprised it even got that high, tbh. Yeah, it's darker, but it's batshit boring. Plus, LORDE BURNOUT.
EDIT: This was my 6,666th post. Ha.

Her label made the silly mistake of releasing "Glory And Gore" for no apparent reason...that's the only reason "Tennis Court" didn't do well IMO. In fact, I can't remember burnout being the reason for a band flopping on alternative for a really long time, Linkin Park's "Leave Out All The Rest" and Weezer's "Memories" come to mind I guess, but that's just about it. (Not counting bands like TOAD and Nickelback who were never core alternative acts)

"Glory and Gore" wasn't released for 'no apparent reason.' After "Glory and Gore" gained exposure through the History Channel Vikings ad and starting selling like hotcakes, her label decided to push it instead of "Tennis Court" because of the hype it had at the time. Problem was that the hype died pretty fast for the song, hindering its ability to potentially perform well on formats outside of Alternative (which would have probably kept playing it if it weren't for the label sending a 'cease and desist' notice to MDs spinning the song in favor of giving "Tennis Court" airplay instead). When they switched their strategy to release "Tennis Court" instead, "Glory and Gore" was already performing well on Alternative, and along with the confusion and having two songs being pushed at once, "Tennis Court" failed to reach its expectations on all formats.

If it's not that, then people must not like this song that much.

It never reached the Top 40 until May.

Says the guy who loves "Glory And Gore" I kid I kid haha, but regardless, there was no need to release them so close at the very least. If they managed her singles a bit better I think she'd have a 100% top 10 record right now.

Linkin Park and Death Cab are the only ones who did well that I can think of. Many of them used to succeed. Paramore's "Decode", Chad Kroeger's "Hero", Dashboard's "Vindicated", Foo Fighters' "The One", as well as the two you mentioned.

certain Youtube losers bitching about her dance moves. If anything they remind me of the quirkiness of 80s; New Wave dances. better than twerking like whores.

I AM RIGHT, I SWEAR I'M RIGHT, SWEAR I KNEW IT ALL ALONG I love how after I reminded you of this, Spotify says you listened to a s**t ton of Dashboard Funny thing about him though, I LOVE "Vindicated" and think it's hands down his best song (no pun intended), but when I was in high school and emo pop punk was all the rave, those kids all HATED "Vindicated". Apparently it's his shittiest song because he sold out with the electric guitar to cheat his way to mainstream success.

I definitely prefer his acoustic stuff, but Hands Down, Stolen, Don't Wait we're all great. and how did Spotify let you know.
