I've enjoyed all her lead singles except "Diamonds," so as long as it doesn't sound like that one, I'm excited. Thank you! "Diamonds" blows.

My body is ready... Can't wait to make hairflips on the dancefloor to a new Rihanna song!... Watch the first single be like Russian roulette lol Russian Roulette is one of her best songs, the fact that flopped doesn't change that. And curiously, i think this time she even give as a break, little break but a break anyway. She use to be on radio non stop, and now it seems there have been a while since her last single (maybe because she has no hit since Stay, well she had The monster but i hate that song and change the channel everytime it starts, so i didn't hear it that much)

I didnt say it wasn't a good song. But I dont think anybody was doing hairflips to it on a dancefloor anywhere.

I didnt say it wasn't a good song. But I dont think anybody was doing hairflips to it on a dancefloor anywhere. That's for sure, it's an obscure song, and i like that. Here in Spain it's one of her biggest hits. One of the best things of Rihanna is that she is able to have hits with very different types of songs, and that she is able to recover of flops without problem (it's not a secret that i think some of her less successful songs are way better than some of her number ones). And of course, she is the only one who has the ability to be constantly on radio without making people be tired of her. She has that x factor, she is very far from being a good singer (but her recorded voice is lovely), her public image is far from being the best, but people won't get tired of her no matter how many singles she releases on a year, and there's always a lot of buzz when she releases new material. And that's not easy, in fact i can't think on anyone able to do that

I happen to love "Russian Roulette" and "Diamonds".
"Diamonds" was a smash, and RR should have smashed a lot harder.

Another dance anthem ala "We Found Love" then a sexy midtemo "What's My Name" plz! But I'd also take a 90s house track like "Nobody's Business". I want it ALL.

She hasn't been away for too long though. I mean she had several underperformers after Stay but she was not away. Then she came with The Monster which is still one of the most listened to songs this year, and of course her duet with Shakira which many seem (/want) to forget. So not really a break... I'd prefer she took more time and gave us a really big project. Rated R was the last time I felt there was a strong connection with the material. Her following efforts had great songs... But didn't feel strong... And I think it's about time for her to release a really strong album that exudes Rihanna's personality... And that should take more time

She hasn't released a new album in almost two years, the same amount of time between GGGB and Rated R. 2 years should be enough to come up with a solid album, even if it is part of a soundtrack of some sort.

It's not a secret that Rihanna has little to no creative input into her songs. They just need to block out a few weeks of studio time and allot a couple months for mixing, mastering, promo development and BOOM Rihanna album. How does you think she was putting out an album a year (or less than a year) and still having 4-5 singles from them?

How does you think she was putting out an album a year (or less than a year) and still having 4-5 singles from them? Mine was mostly in response to her not having enough time to create a great album. Most of her albums were created in a year. Most artists can create a solid album in that time. The thing with Rihanna is that, as you said, she does have a lot of input from other people like songwriters and producers and stuff so the amount of time she needs to put into it is minimal compared to those who start from scratch and work from there, but it's still more than enough time to really come up with solid music.

Soundwise, I want something uptempo. But I am fully expecting something more like 'What's My Name', which I didn't like, but would accept if she left off the rent-a-rapper.

I feel like there isn't any hype associated with this project. We've known for a long time that Rihanna was planning to put something out this year, and as we're moving closer to Q4, we knew it would be coming soon. But I don't see any kind of excitement for it, except maybe amongst the RihRih stans

While her lead singles almost always have to grow on me, I do eventually really like them, including "Diamonds" and "Russian Roulette." Definitely looking forward to this.
She can forever keep trash like "Unfaithful" in the past.

I hate to say it because it took an eternity for some but almost all of her singles do eventually grow on me. I don't know why I can't get into her as an artist in general, but I'm anticipating this. It's been so weird to not have music from her for so long, because she felt so massive.
Her alleged cover of 'Work Bitch' still bangs. Rihanna stans, can you confirm or deny if that actually was her?

I don't know of another single of hers that highlights what a poor singer she is/was (she's improved greatly, or found material that works better for her voice, or both). I also thought that while the melody was strong, the production was boring and the lyrics were awful, and she doesn't sell the song to me. It's easily one of my least-favorite singles of her ever, and a sore spot among a generally very strong catalog otherwise.

But I don't see any kind of excitement for it, except maybe amongst the RihRih stans We have? Nothing official has ever been released stating an album would come this year, just rumours and their believability could be put into question. Everbody was expecting an album last year because of her yearly schedule from 2009-2012 and see how that turned out As for the hype part, I have to disagree: Rihanna received a Fashion Icon Award, was featured on two high-profile collaborations, covers several magazines, is now on tour with Eminem (this alone could make people excited for new music from her or even wonder whether she will perform new music there) ... long story short, she has been in the public eye and people know how quickly she puts out music and want to hear what she will come up with next. Of course stans will be anticipating her records the most and I'm not saying there's BTW-Gaga-level of hype, but there is some hype I'd say. Anyway, I love me some Dance-Pop Riri but I wouldn't mind if they went Urban with crossover potential or Pop with crossover potential to maximise her airplay. I want another Rude Boy type of smash at radio (#1 on Pop, Rhythmic, and Urban at the same time)

I was upset that she passed on releasing the R&B tracks to pop radio for the lesser quality pop/edm tracks on her album. I thought the underperformance of the R&B tracks was her labels fault. It wasn't like that material wasn't strong enough. The record company chose give the R&B tracks competition from the edm tracks which had adds dates at pop radio. Ooops! Good thing Diamonds and Stay did so well out of the gate.

Rihanna Diva is one of the biggest, most important fansites alongisde Rihanna Daily and according to people on ATRL, they have some connections. This could be reliable or not, let's see. I'm not getting my hopes up, though.

I hope Rihanna doesn't dick us around again and release a really strong first single then bore us with EDM rehash after rehash.
