Honestly Ariana is a better vocalist. Shout-tina has the better voice by a long shot, but has never known how to use it.

I find both of their voices grating at times. I'm gonna base my vote on what they each make feel with some of their songs. Xtina emotes better and makes me feel something when she doesn't over do it. Ariana makes me feel absolutely nothing...not a single one of her songs has made feel something, honest truth.

I consider being a vocalist as someone who knows how to use their voice, rather than simply being someone with a good voice. So, Ariana. I love Ariana voice because she has a beautiful tone but her range is severely limited. Nah.

Gonna leave this here. The tears of the crowd. And she got the lyrics right.Eh, I hate when singers turn every word into an "ah" sound. Still better than her normal enunciation I guess, and Christina never sounded this good on the anthem.

I'm surprised at the large polling results disparity. They both have technique issues. I guess I'd give a slight edge to Christina.

Ariana's got a beautiful tone and range but she has nowhere near the power and emotion of Christina.

Idk I think the assertion that Ariana's voice is at all "big" is kind of tenuous. Christina has lousy technique and has spent the better part of a decade making sure she will never sing a full song well again, but at the very least she had some real weight behind those excessive runs, emotive capabilities, and the ability to form words while singing. Ariana is a range-y lightweight-- I'm impressed by her technique but underwhelmed constantly by her vanilla performances and obviously that terrible enunciation.

Does having a "heavier" voice-- which ultimately has nothing to do with technique but is more or less something you're born with-- really have anything to do with the question though?

This looks like a runaway TKO for Christina. 53-16 is as big a lead as i ever seen on Pulse. Surprised that Christina, Pulse fav whipping boi is winning here.

If the posts in the CHR/Pop section of this board didn't prove that most posters here are musically illiterate, the results of this poll certainly did. There's no logical reason for the results to be so lopsided.
Just because Christina can shout out a note doesn't mean she had true power to her voice. And is that really relevant if the note was flat anyway? The only legitimate things she ever had over Ariana was enunciation (at peak), emoting abilities, and her lower register. I feel like this could be an interesting discussion if people didn't just coast on Xtina's overinflated reputation as a vocalist.

My vote goes to Ariana. I can't sit through most of Christina's recent material. Her older stuff is good, but her recent attempts automatically put her below Ariana. Not to mention the fact that I like Ariana's voice, and her talent is more prevalent nowadays.

Ariana's voice is more natural, even though her middle register is weak.
Christina has the more complete package, but she tries too hard. And her technique has always been poor.
It's a tie for me lol

Just realized this came off as me complaining about the results but I was commenting on the poll itself. Can she go away for a bit? Please and thanks.

This is a tricky poll because both voices have significant, but very different, strengths and flaws, but my comparison at their "peaks" to date:
Power: Christina in nearly all ranges by a moderate margin. Ariana's voice is a mid-weight compared to the tour de force that was Christina's at her peak; however, Christina's voice thinned considerably after D5 even during her peak.
Range: Christina by a small margin. Ariana takes the higher chest notes higher than E5, whereas Christina takes MUCH lower register notes down to Bb2 with ease, whereas Ariana struggles below G3.
Tone: Ariana by a small margin. Christina's lower to mid register tone is incredible; but her higher chest notes are sung purely from her throat instead of her diaphragm, giving that "Kermit" sound. Ariana sings from high larynx and and nose giving that persistent thin, nasal sound at most ranges. That being said, Ariana's tone is considerably smoother than Christina's in all ranges.
Clarity/Consistency: Ariana by a moderate-large margin. Christina's vocals often lack control as she frequently pushes herself into ranges and tones that she could not handle. Ariana's vocals are a finely tuned and controlled instrument; for example, Ariana's ability to masterfully transition from chest voice to head voice without pause is something Christina has never been able to reliably do.
Soul/Melisma: Christina by a moderate margin. One of Ariana's biggest vocal flaws is her consistently soulless performance style. There is a very musical, but Disney-esque character to Ariana's voice. Both gals incorrectly try to "create" soul by injecting riffs and melismas, which are artful, but lack any vocal depth. In spite of this, Christina, at her peak, had an uncanny ability to tell a story form her vocals, but sadly, can not today.
Versatility: Christina by a moderate-large margin. Christina has demonstrated over the years the ability to successfully tackle various genres and styles of music; To me, Ariana is heading down the same direction as Leona Lewis as a one-trick pony, but hopefully with branch out as she is exposed to more folks in the business.
Head Voice: Ariana by a moderate margin- nothing to say !
Overall: Christina by a small-moderate margin

One of the greatest vocalists and performers of ALL time and proves why shes considered one of the greatest vocalist EVER. Even Jessica Simpson's wig flew off. Ariana has a long way to go but she has potential.

Christina's lower register (as displayed in her live performance of "Walk Away" on David Letterman) is rich, buttery, and soulful enough to slay anything I've heard from Ariana. Christina's voice can certainly be shrill and grating, but when it is on point, Jesus. Arian's chest voice is a bit too light and lacking a real punch for me.

Christina may not deliver the vocals, but her delivery is still in a class of it's own. You can have these two singers sing the same song, but Christina's artistry will shine through the best.

Damn, that vote is a landslide.
Christina tends to scream but she has far more depth, character and texture to her vocal deliveries. They both have annoying elements to their voices but Christina is a far more seasoned vocalist who knows her voice and how to project it with her individuality.
Ariana is on the other hand is pretty much just a mimicking novice.

Christina gets ripped apart constantly at Pulse, yet as soon as people dare say anything positive about her they must be deaf and/or wrong...okay. Anyway, Christina. Ariana's delivery and tone is way too vanilla for me.

People rip her apart for her lack of success. People still rush to defend her hemorrhaging vocal chords though!

What's funny though is some people will defend a certain pop star that sings completely off key to a backing track or when another pop star comes on stage for 10 seconds lip syncing the entire time saying it was the performance of the century. But I suppose when you've been bestowed "Voice of Our Generation" your standards are quite high. :kii:

Personally, I think they both are overrated for their vocals. Christina is much higher on best vocalist lists than she should be. Christina is very shrill and has terrible execution. Ariana well her voice is too thin for my liking and that enunciation is terrible. I will say though that you get more of Christina's personality in her work when she sings than you get from Ariana when she sings. When Christina is on though, she is on! I will say that Ariana's tone is much more pleasing to the ears, and she executes well. I do think she and Christina share one nasty habit in that they reach for notes that just aren't in their repertoire. Songs I like from Christina: Genie in a Bottle, What a Girl Wants, Hurt, Slow Down Baby. I haven't really had a song from Ariana that makes me say I have to go/want to listen to it. I will give them a tie because in all honesty if you blended them together for what they both do well then you would have one great vocalist.
