I honestly thought it was going to be about her collaborations with Ne-Yo, The-Dream, R. Kelly, Babyface, etc.

(To those of you who seemingly cant read) The beats to all those songs is similar musically to R&B. Not saying her stuff WAS r&b but it just seems like it could have crossed over.

Just because the production and beats bore similarities to R&B music doesn't necessarily mean that it will automatically crossover to an audience that might be more likely to enjoy that music. It just didn't crossover and that's all there is to it.

I noticed the title change in the thread. Maybe a Michael Jackson with white community thread will be made.

Regarding the thread title, could you at least change it to 'r&b community?' Just because it's black history month doesn't mean you have to snub our melanin-challenged comrades allow that and @jazzysoul47, among others

Celine has said in interviews that people will come up to her and show her their babies and say to her, "we made him/her while listening to your music." The impact.

I was hoping we could have an adult discussion about why songs with R&B styled production didn't happen to crossover and what it was about Celine Dion that didn't appeal to the BLACK (get over it) community. Sigh :'(

Michael was white himself when he died, so no, not really. Please elaborate.

I was hoping we could have an adult discussion about why songs with R&B styled production didn't happen to crossover and what it was about Celine Dion that didn't appeal to the BLACK (get over it) community. Sigh :'( Fine. If "black" (more specifically, "black American" since you're determined to ignore the Jamaican love) is the game you want to play: 1. Celine is not black. 2. Celine, despite being a fan of and influenced by artists like Aretha and Whitney, did not purposely record music with r&b undertones or try to sing like a "black" (r&b) singer. Her voice was very straightforward power pop and if anything, it lent itself more toward rock along the lines of '80s Heart and Queen. 3. Celine did not appear on "black" tv shows or radio stations to promote her music. 4. Celine can't dance for shit. No rhythm. None. The woman couldn't find the beat if someone handed her a pair of Dr. Dre's headphones. Again, you're surprised she didn't cross over into the urban format because...? If you're really a member of the black community then you already know how selective we are about who we 'accept' or let in. Hell we almost kicked Usher and Nicki out of the tribe over a handful of dance-pop and they are two of our own. So no, there is seriously no reason to ponder why we didn't accept outsider Celine back in the day. If anything you should be asking the reverse - given how picky and snobbish we are about who we will let in (or allow to stay in), how do a few people manage to squeak through anyway. Now this is without going in on the obvious flaw that is equating r&b solely with the black community, or vice versa. The reason I suggested you alter the title (well besides poking a little fun at allow that and Jazzy) is because there's no rule that says black people only listen to r&b music. Like I said, my sister is a fool for some Celine, and I love her too; last time I checked our birth certificates said we were black. I know plenty of black people who think Celine is great, and none of us would ever consider her r&b. So try not to let your brain explode on this point, but it's entirely possible that 'black community,' 'r&b community,' and 'Celine Dion fans' are more of a Venn diagram than you or Kevin Hart can conceptualize. Was that adult enough for you?

That's understandable. MJ was truly a man of the people. He was every race possible! How could any community not love him?

Of course, but there are crossovers who don't happen to be of that color all the time and it just seemed like songs like Because of you loved me and If you asked me to could have crossed over.
