This is so awesome. Obsessed with this song, and Kacey Musgraves. Please be a hit, please.

@daydrinker Kacey is very aware of the point you brought up. I saw her in concert two weeks ago, and as her intro to Biscuits she pretty much said "I realize it probably seems like I'm writing the same songs with the same message, and maybe I am, but I hope you'll stick with me through this one because I think it's an important message and I'm passionate about it." I'm glad you posted about that. I was getting a little worried as well about the "sameness" in theme, but I'm glad to hear she's aware of that, which likely means the rest of the new album is different. I quite enjoy "Biscuits," but I was really hoping Kacey would release something newer/fresher to kick off her new era. I've had the live version of this song on my iPhone for at least a year, so it feels like part of the Same Trailer, Different Park era to me. It's probably a lot more exciting for those who hadn't heard the song already. I don't necessarily think this will be a big hit on radio, but I would be glad to be wrong. I am a big Kacey fan and am definitely rooting for her success. Country radio desperately needs people like her. Has there been any news on when the new album will be released?

Ok, I give up. I'm obsessed with this song, message, and everything! I was quick to not like it based on the live version, but this song is another masterpiece after hearing the studio version earlier this week. She may be dialing up another Grammy for 2016!

The more I hear this, the more I love it. The lyrics to this are just about perfect. I hope that country radio realizes how good it is.

I like the studio version much better-although the live version was cute I was skeptical when reading about the sing along chorus.. In general, I don't like that sort of thing; but it is a nice touch and not overdone in this song. And she continues her usual clever lyrical style. Go Kacey!

I'm just a bit surprised to see such a traditional song selling well on iTunes and starting off strong on the airplay charts. I still doubt this will come near the top 10; I expect a run similar to what I expect of Kip Moore's "I'm to Blame." Radio really likes both artists but their most recent lead singles just don't really sound too great on the radio and I think ultimately both will hit a ceiling somewhere in the 20's or teens. I appreciate Kacey's passion about this sort of message and I thank carriekins for posting the tidbit Kacey said about her songs, but it just seems to me that perhaps more people agree with this idea than Kacey realizes. I'm sure most country artists and label executives agree with the concept of leaving people alone to live the way they want. (I know from stalking on social media that at least two of the "Big Five" label executives are pretty liberal both politically and socially.) It's possible some radio programmers and listeners in the southern states might not approve, but I don't think any number of Kacey Musgraves songs about this message will change their mindset, so to me it just seems a bit unnecessary to keep driving home the same idea. However, if the idea continues to sell this well on iTunes, I guess it's a wise business strategy (even if a little shallow in my opinion). I guess it's kind of the same concept as Eric Church singing songs about being an outlaw or Miranda Lambert singing songs about being a strong, independent woman. If that's Kacey's shtick, I can respect it and support her even if I personally experience some fatigue with this message, and, as usual, I really just want the stuff that brings the most listeners to country radio to get played, so if this message continues to draw in a large base of usually non-country fans, then I'm glad for it.

Currently the most exciting song around. Fantastic blend of traditional music, instruments and arrangement; very tongue-in-cheek (in a classy way). Love this and wish Kacey to finally succeed with this one on radio. :) Although absolutely not related and no resemblance at all, when first heard it reminded me of Lily Allen: "Not Fair"

Looking at today's Billboard Country Update, I noticed that this was up 1.639M in audience for the week, with Luke Bryan's "Games" up 1.555M. Wouldn't that be an interesting chart race to see play out, these two chasing each other up? (Would probably be Kacey chasing Luke up, but the point is with similarly competitive weeks the whole way through.) Unfortunately it probably won't happen; he likely won't slow down (much) on his way up, while this will even for just a bit. Still, seeing the two off to similar fast starts now has me thinking, 'wouldn't that be a sight to see with them having this out as a showdown for the summit?'

"Games" isn't Luke's actual single though. It's off his Spring Break EP - stations are jumping on it cause its Luke Bryan. It's only on 28 monitored stations on MB. I fully expect a lead single to be released soon. It should be interesting to see how "Games" chart run turns out though, and exactly how long. So I wouldn't read too much into Kacey keeping up with Luke. Good start for "Biscuits" though, I agree.

"Biscuits" is definitely doing very well by new artist standards, but if "Games" were an actual single, it'd be moving super slow by Luke's standards. I'd expect a new Luke Bryan single to gain at least 5-7 million in audience per week for its first few weeks, and there are no new artists that can keep up with that. And I think the lead single to Luke's next album will probably get Clear Channel-ed to a top 20 debut (although I'd be willing to bet that, even without once-an-hour CC spins, Luke's next single could debut inside or very close to the top 20).

Look for Biscuits to equal Kacey Musgrave's top 40s on the mongrel chart at the airplay chart (four apiece).
Biscuits debuts at #5 on the digital chart with 25,000 sold. Congratulations, Kacey Musgraves!
Debuts at #28 on the mongrel chart.

I saw her in Providence the other evening...and she was fantastic. Such a nice woman, and funny as all heck.
The new music that she played was fantastic. She did joke about finalizing the record and the label being down her throat about getting the finished version. I'm not sure if this was posted anywhere but she said the release will be early June.

I feel like the odd man out but I just can't get into Kacey and this song does nothing to change that. I should probably check out some of her album tracks because her singles feel a little too homogeneous to me with perhaps Blowin' Smoke standing out a little more than the others.

The melody is kind of similar to "Follow Your Arrow", but other than that, very good. Only single of hers that didn't grab me was "Keep It To Yourself", which just sounded very sleepy and didn't seem to have as much to say.
Anyone censoring "pissing"? I heard that line uncensored when WATZ played it last week.

Alright, I'm a huge Kacey fan, but I just can't get into this like I have with her previous singles. This is just so similar to "Follow Your Arrow" and it sort of sounds like something that could've been a bonus track on iTunes or a Target Deluxe Edition of Same Trailer Different Park. It's fine if they wanted to put this on the new album and maybe even release it as a single down the road, but I don't think releasing this as the lead single was the best strategy, since "Follow Your Arrow" is still in most listeners' recent memory (I almost was going to say that FYA was her last single and it didn't make sense to release these songs back-to-back, but then I realized that "Keep It to Yourself" was her last single ).

FYA didn't even crack the top 40 in airplay, so it's not like many people heard it all the time. Most probably only heard it when she performed it at award shows. I doubt the common listener will even think twice about it.

I can see the similarities, but I still think this has enough thematic, melodic, and stylistic differences not to feel like a retread of Arrow.

I feel like the odd man out but I just can't get into Kacey and this song does nothing to change that. I should probably check out some of her album tracks because her singles feel a little too homogeneous to me with perhaps Blowin' Smoke standing out a little more than the others. I totally agree, unfortunately. I want to like her SO badly, but there is something about her style that just keeps making me hesitate... Now for this song. The hook sounds cheesy and contrived to me. The melody is catchy enough, but I cannot stand the lyrics... I think it may be because the entire song is a string of metaphors that are forced together to say the same exact thing, with the very worst one being the hook. It's like the song cannot decide whether it is supposed to be serious or silly, so it fails at both. Even the fact that it is singsongy is not quite enough to redeem it, because that only makes it even cheesier. I would say that Tim McGraw's "Last Dollar (Fly Away)" is an example of a song where the singsongy nature works in its favor. It is undeniable that the song is one of the biggest piles of cheese ever released to radio. However Tim totally knows that it is, so he embellishes it and has fun with it. The result is a silly song that makes you feel good that you can instantly sing along to because the song doesn't pretend to be anything but cheesy, and it does so delightfully and tastefully. "Biscuits" on the other hand is cheesy, but also tries to make some kind of social commentary through use of metaphors that literally say the same thing over and over rather than pushing new and creative thoughts. It doesn't say WHY you should mind your own biscuits, and there is not a single mention of how life will be gravy if you do. It simply tells you that it will be. This song sounds like a nursery rhyme as a result. To me, this song will be like hearing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" in heavy rotation if it becomes a hit. I DO hope it becomes a hit so that Kacey can build up her radio career and establish herself more firmly as an artist. But this song is definitely going to be an instant station changer for me.

What's sad is that it's completely plausible for a Luke Bryan "between singles" album track to peak higher at radio than a Kacey lead single from a highly anticipated sophomore record. Nothing against Luke or his song at all, but it's not even a promoted single! I know there's still plenty of time for "Biscuits" to pick up the pace, but I'm not expecting it to out-peak "Games". Hope I'm wrong.

This one has been having a tough go at radio the past couple weeks. "Biscuits" has lost 533k in audience over the past 18 days and has gained just 36 spins over that time (200k in lost audience today). Kacey's actually lost both total points and audience on the past two MB issued charts and the only reason she kept a bullet was the increase in spins.
This one never struck me as a big hit, but I figured it'd have it's legs a bit more underneath it by now, but it's still pretty early so we'll see how the rest of it's chart run shakes out.
