I'm still wondering if there was a contractual obligation to release this as a single if it made the album, especially when you consider that they shot the video for this before Work. Although rapid single releases have always been part of Rihanna's strategy, they never literally released two at the same time like they did with this. Given that Needed Me was already rising on its own, they already had a success to fall back on if this fizzled. It's pretty much a perfect opportunity to stick it to John Glass after the rant last year and cover their own ass. And this is before the Calvin single was even in the picture presumably. California king bed and man down released a week apart . Stay and pour it up were released a day apart They were sent to different formats though. These two were literally released to the same formats on the same day.

California king bed and man down released a week apart . Stay and pour it up were released a day apart Yes they were released practically at the same time but all those songs are different from each other. It's not like Urban was going to jump on "California and Stay" "Kiss It Better" and "Needed Me" aren't to far of a stretch from each other. I think that's most of the reason people were confused with this release. Then throw in the Calvin track and it really seemed pointless to release "Kiss It Better" along with "Needed Me". Maybe they did agree to release KIB beforehand so they had to. But I think it's also possible that they only released KIB because Rihanna's fans were hyping it up so much on the Internet. If it weren't for that they might have gone with Needed Me to all formats. Also, I heard the Calvin song was recorded very recently so they might not have known about it when they chose the 2nd single. Also, Rihanna should perform this tbh. I know it won't turn the song into a smash hit (at best it might give it enough of a boost so that it can go top 40 on the Hot 100), but Rihanna fans will think forever that a TV performance would have sent it to #1 or top 10 if she doesn't perform it, so I think she should so we don't have to wonder about it in the future lol.

She shouldn't waist a performance on this. I mean why not promote Needed Me. That's the best chance to get a good boost so he can be even bigger than it already is.

Needed Me doesn't need any push considering its smashing at its format. A Kiss It Better performance could actually turn this song around.

It's too late for this song on radio, even if she does perform it next weekend.

It's too late for this song on radio, even if she does perform it next weekend. It could be like L.A.LOVE. Fergie performed it went it was falling on radio and it still gave a good boost, but radio are not realistically going to start playing it again. Pop stations are moving onto Needed Me now (so it need(ed me)s an add data now): headlineplanet.com/home/2016/05/03/rihannas-needed-me-picking-up-airplay-at-pop-radio/I hope this is the last time Rihanna does a dual single.

These two were literally released to the same formats on the same day. They may have sent them but it doesn't seem like "Kiss It Better" and "Needed Me" were both going to be pushed at CHR. It seems like they sent them out to pop stations and let them decide because neither of them sounded like Top 40 gold perhaps. Either way it was kind of stupid because if "Kiss It Better" is the supposed smash some are hearing I guess they killed that idea.

Don't care if it helps But she should perform this at the BBMA's alongside Needed Me I just don't want that Calvin collab to take its spot, KIB & Needed Me are AMAZING the Calvin collab is generic IMO

there was no saving this though? radio had already made up its mind. So? It's not like the other tracks needed help. Performing this would've at least aided it in a new peak on the Hot 100 and shifted album sales. Also, it's not like this is crashing in airplay. It's only down 300 spins from last week. A performance could have been fuel enough to restart it on radio. Stranger things have happened. Oh well, Love on the Brain is the best track on the album, so I'm glad it got some exposure. It'll also help sell the album. I hope it's the follow up single.

I loved her performance last night of "Love On The Brain". Great idea to perform it. It translated great live. Her performing skills were on point. "Kiss It Better" would have more than likely been boring so it would probably not have resurrected the song anyways.

RIP, hymn.
It will own that underrated smash-that-got-away status as it rests in peace.

I wish they would have sent this to urban AC. It deserves to be a hit somewhere.

I love Kaytranada, but I don't care for that mix. It doesn't suit the song.
I like Sissy Nobby's Kiss It Bounce better.

These remixes are definitely not a great as Needed Me's, but my favorite one is the 3rd track.
