Because of the apparent panel change on Mediabase, I'm going to wait to update my chart until the Billboard chart comes out Monday night.

The chart is updated with today's numbers, although Mediabase says it "will be reconciling the data throughout the weekend to ensure all spins are accounted for."

I have been looking at this projection graph every day now to see how "A Groovy Little Summer Song" from James Otto is doing because I love James so much. Can anyone here please tell me how the song is doing for him because I don't understand the graph very well. :(

I have been looking at this projection graph every day now to see how "A Groovy Little Summer Song" from James Otto is doing because I love James so much. Can anyone here please tell me how the song is doing for him because I don't understand the graph very well. :( Basically you want to look at the 3 columns farthest to the right--O, P, and Q (P is only filled in sometime late Sunday I believe). As each day goes by, the chart tracks the audience increase in column Q, and column O is the song's accumulated audience total through that particular song's chart run. Billboard ranks the top 60 based on total audience, so column Q is important as it will show you how much audience the song is gaining. As of right now, James is set to gain 0.242, or 242,000 audience impressions. There are several songs gaining more, so James won't fly up the charts... However, don't worry. For someone like you (and me), who really likes this song, that means the song is still gaining at a decent pace and will climb slowly. Some posters call this a 'slow-burn rate'. This means that this song will slowly but steadily climb and reach its peak probably in late summer or early autumn. There have been a few slow weeks for James here and there, but as he continues to slowly climb that audience total will grow and increase more and more per week. Hope this helped. But maybe the projection maker rowdawg21 can offer a better explanation or add more, or correct me if I said anything wrong. Hope this helps tho!

What are audience impressions? Hmm...here's where it might get tricky for me. Audience impressions are basically the new amount of audience a song gains for the week...I'm not sure how many stations are on the Billboard panel, but the more that add James, the more audience his song reaches...so he will gain more audience impressions if stations keep adding his song to their rotations. I can't explain further than that...tracking airplay is tough, and the way the numbers work can be kind of confusing. If you want a really good explanation, you could possibly PM someone like rowdawg21, Zazie, or Jonsolo. They might not know everything, but they will likely know more about the numbers and details of audience on the Billboard chart...

^^^ Thank you for all that you shared. This website here gives a list of every country radio station in the U.S. and Canada. I know that there are like 1,525 FM country stations in the U.S. :)

Audience impressions are an estimate of how many people here a song based on the station's estimated audience size and the time of day in which the song is played. For a long time, songs were charted based on an equation manufactured by Billboard or Radio & Records that formulated spins plus audience plus station weight. That's no longer; Billboard simply ranks its chart by audience. That's why getting extra spins on national shows are so beneficial. In my opinion, the songs should be based on something more concrete, like spins, than something guessed, audience. However, following several high-profile "payola" cases in the early 200s, most notably Luke Lewis' gushing admission that he bought Reba McEntire her #1 hit "Somebody," Billboard was forced to rethink it's methodology so that record labels and influential program directors could not control the charts.

How did Laura Bell Bundy get back up to #31 in the predictions where she should be around #36 or #37? The #31 song listed has over 5 million in audience where "Giddy On Up" only has over 3.4 million in audience.

Okay, so with 0.238 being today's number for James, what does that mean compared to the numbers of his song in the past? Is it getting more time on the radio because the stations that have been playing it already are playing it more now or does his number go up or down because of other stations starting to play it too, or is it due to both of those things happening or is that a question that can't even be answered? I'm sorry. I'm trying to understand. Hopefully someone here will understand what it is that I am asking there. :)

I'm sorry. I'm trying to understand. Hopefully someone here will understand what it is that I am asking there. :) Ok I'll try to explain this for you as best I can. Feel free to ask questions. When a station plays a song, people here it, and the more stations that play it and the more times the stations play the song and when the stations play the song all figure into how many people here a song. So let's do a hypothetical. Shania releases a new single exclusively to the top 25 markets in the US tomorrow at noon. They have the right to play the song for a day before any of their lower competitors get it. So after the first day, the song gets played 100 times by these 25 stations and 1.000 million hear the song. This data will show up Wednesday on Mediabase. The next day, every country station has the single and they all are playing it because people want to hear new Shania. So now the song is played 400 times and 3.500 is the number Mediabase gives us on Thursday. It's increased in audience by 2.5 million. Tuesday - Song released, no Mediabase data Wednesday - 100 plays, 1.000 impressions Thursday - 400 plays, 3.500 impressions But by the next week, the song has lost its initial hype, so the song is only gaining let's say 5,000 new listeners a day. Or, it's even possible that after the song debuts, let's say it racks up 10 million audience impressions its first week, that some markets find the song isn't testing well so they pull back play. The audience impressions could drop even though the song is receiving more spins. That happens a lot of songs right out of the gate, especially when bigger markets jump quick because of hype and then put the song into normal rotation. Make sense?

I don't remember the specific number, but it was somewhere around -0.088 I believe, or a projected decrease of 88,000 in audience (if the week were to end Wednesday night). Today's number is postive--not by much--but that should still be taken as a good sign. This isn't likely to be a good week for James, but he will probably add at least a small amount of new audience to his total. If he finishes the week strong, he can forget about his early week struggles.
When the Billboard Country Update comes out on Monday, I expect James to inch up a spot to #33, but only if Joe Nichols goes recurrent from the top 10. Otherwise he'll remain at #34. He's behind Rodney by a pretty big distance, but James has a big lead on Kellie, Jake, and MG (who are also having a slow week). Go ahead and send me any personal messages if you have any more questions, I'd be glad to answer them.

Sadly some real stink pots have placed black clouds over other online places that I love to be at. My loyalty to them places is why I keep going back to them, but I thank y'all so much for giving me a new great online place to come to. :)

Since the question of the Billboard/Mediabase panels seems to come up a lot, I compiled this chart:

Nice job with the chart!
So that means a Satellite radio station like Sirius/XM isn't on either panel?
