His voice has a Joe Nichols sound to it. This would probably have been a radio hit about 15 years ago. Unless being co-written by Sam Hunt has any impact... this (unfortunately) is not what country radio plays in 2015. :( With this song being written by Sam Hunt, who radio and fans love right now, and the fact this is going to be promoted by Warner Music, this should tell you, this song will go somewhere as they are a pretty powerful label at the moment as they are doing well with Michael Ray and Blake Shelton, and Hunter Hayes who ain't doing great but still is packing a punch with his latest "21". Also, we are heading into Fall so radio will be more willing to play these type of songs more then they would be in the Summer.

This is, hands down, one of my favorite songs on The Highway right now. REALLY pulling for this one to take off at terrestrial radio. This is probably in my top 3 of Highway Finds (with Adam Sanders "Somewhere You Don't Go" and whoever sings that "Waste Another Beer" song - Old Moonshine Revival?). I'd be happy to see any of those see success at terrestrial radio.

Old Southern Moonshine Revival does sing "Waste Another Beer." I've tried to get into "Somewhere That You Don't Go" but something about it isn't quite clicking with me -- perhaps Adam's vocals. He also co-wrote "Hell Of A Night", and while every songwriter deserves a mulligan, I always think of that when Adam's song comes on The Highway.

I wish I could unread that, sabre14. I was blissfully unaware. Sigh. Anyway, I can see how Adam's vocals could be a bit polarizing - his vocals are a bit thin and nasally, but the song itself (lyrically and prodiction) makes up for it. Now, I will stop hijacking this thread and return you all to your "I Met a Girl" discussion. :)

Wow, if I didn't know any better I'd think that wasn't even the same genre as this...

Wow, if I didn't know any better I'd think that wasn't even the same genre as this... I just heard Sam's version for the first time tonight. The first verse of the song I was like "okay, this isn't quite the whiplash I was expecting", but then that chorus kicked in...whoa...that's the most drastic two versions of a song I've heard in a long time. Yeah, Sam can write good country songs with the best of them but once he gets in the studio that's when it changes, big time.

His voice reminds me of Scotty McCreery for some reason :) I like this, but not sure which I prefer, his or Sam's version. However, I think his version is a bit on the (very) slow side, and usually people prefer upbeat songs to ballads. (I love ballads more btw)

That's fantastic news. I was so disappointed when Blaine moved back to Washington, great to hear he's still recording. I'll have to hear a few more WMM songs to put him in Blaine's class, but the voices do seem to match up.

His new song is on iTunes and is called "Missing The Rain," a reference to his Northwest home.

My eyes nearly leaped out of my sockets reading this -- so glad Blaine is recording music again. It's a travesty that he gave up music for a few years and that country radio never fully embraced him. First Halfway to Hazard gets back together, now Blaine Larsen has new music. Let's get Hot Apple Pie and Carolina Rain back together while we're at it. :)

To me, his voice is just country, but it slightly reminds me of Joe Nichols in some parts and Clay Walker in some parts. He has his own style though, I think.
I wish I hadn't known that Sam Hunt was a co-writer. I can hear the signature Sam Hunt melody that just sits there and doesn't do anything. Unfortunately it makes for a boring melody. I like the lyrics and WMM's sound and I'm ready for a song with less tempo on the air. But the song, as a whole, is pretty vanilla to me.

His voice reminds me of Wade Hayes with just a touch of Joe Nichols.

William Michael Morgan recently did an interview with iHeartRadio (96.9 the KAT) and he said that his debut album is produced by Scott Hendricks, along with Jimmy Ritchey. You can also here some clips of the songs that Morgan has recorded and wow, do they ever sound country -- like straight out of the 90's to early 2000's. I'm also crossing my fingers that perhaps this is just a sign that he's the next 'On The Verge' selection? That's pure speculation on my part though, lol.

He has acoustic versions of a couple songs that I believe he wrote and they are really awesome..."Vinyl", "Cotton Dresses", and "Cheap Cologne".

I enjoy Sam Hunt's original version much more than this one. I don't know if this is going anywhere. I agree, I much prefer Sam's version. This is still a decent song though, and I hope it can turn things around and at least reenter the chart.

WMM made it old school. This is why it bothers me when people imply that Chris Stapleton's writing of "Crash and Burn" had an impact on how that song turned out. The feel of that tune in Thomas Rhett and his producer's hands was likely nothing like what Stapleton had in mind for it when he wrote it, I'm sure. The opposite is true here since WMM took a non-traditional song and made it that way & that really worked well, imo. I don't remember Sam Hunt's version but I believe I did listen to it and didn't care for it like I do this neo-traditional-sounding rendition.

"I Met A Girl" jumps up seven spots to #49 on MB this week -- by far the best week movement wise for this one in a while. KKBQ in Houston more than doubled its spins and has accounted for over 400k of its total MB audience.
I'm hopeful this can continue to get steady airplay and some conversions on some of the bigger market stations that is currently spinning this one. KKBQ in Houston increasing this song's spins even more would certainly help.
