Artist: William Michael Morgan Single: "I Met A Girl" Writers: Sam Hunt, Shane McAnally, Trevor Rosen Label: Warner Bros./Warner Music Nashville Add Date: August 24th, 2015 Source: William Michael Morgan Twitter iTunes Apparently Warner Music Nashville has had William Michael Morgan (20 years old) under development for a while now and his debut single (which will first be played on Sirius/XM) "I Met A Girl" was released to iTunes today. Morgan is a more traditional style of country artist, who had his debut single written by Sam Hunt (originally off one of Sam's acoustic mix-tape). Windmills twitter pointed out about Morgan and I found out that he did indeed perform as part of Warner Music's lineup at CMA Music Fest this month. This article ( here) from last month confirmed Morgan's debut single to be released in the coming months, and now we know what that single is. I never heard of him until today and did not know he was on Warner Music Nashville's roster, but alas, here he is. This will get a terrestrial radio release eventually.

This song is really, REALLY good. Of the recent traditional-sounding tunes I've heard released to country radio, I think this one has the best shot to make some noise.

A traditionally minded artist with his debut single written by Sam Hunt and friends. Irony at its finest Well, Shane McAnally co-wrote almost every track on Kacey Musgraves' new album, which is old school country at its finest (Shane also co-produced the album). And even though Sam Hunt's musical style is, err, not very country at all, I'm sure he listened to plenty of country music growing up (it's just that, so far, we haven't heard those influences in Sam's own music). So I agree it's a bit ironic that William's debut single was co-written by Sam, but Shane McAnally clearly knows how to do all kinds of styles, including older/traditional country sounds. I mean, Shane is one of the co-writers on Jake Owen's "Real Life" as well...he clearly can do both ends of the spectrum.

Yeah, the song is quite good but I loved it when Sam did it on his acoustic mix tape. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Shane co-produced this project too (Though Scott Hendricks is very likely too).

According to the link sabre14 posted ( here), Jimmy Ritchey is William's producer. Jimmy has produced the last several Mark Chesnutt albums, and William has cited Mark as a big influence.

I can't put my finger on it...but he sounds like somebody. Billy Currington, Easton Corbin, maybe? Will take me a few more listens.
I like it. A little slow, but solid.

That makes a lot of sense too. Jimmy was Jake Owen's first producer and also Blaine Larsen's. Listening to this vs Sam's and he sings the talking lines that Sam does in the acoustic mix.

Yeah, I was just making more of a joke than anything, my point was trying to emphasize on Sam Hunt. I only said "and friends" to show that I know he wasn't the only one involved in this. I know Shane can make a good country song, but Sam I've yet to see. Perhaps this could prove me wrong

I enjoy Sam Hunt's original version much more than this one. I don't know if this is going anywhere.
I guess I just don't think this song fits with a more traditional leaning artist/voice. Why don't we have George Strait cover "Single For The Summer" while we're at it.

Man did this fall out of the wayback machine. What a great, great sounding voice and song. It's not a great fit for his voice, but it's a Sam Hunt co-write, so radio is obligated to play it, right? Right? (okay, radio still won't play this, but maybe it can hang around for a while like Mo Pitney's has). I like Mo Pitney's voice better, but production wise, I can't remember the last time i heard a debut single I liked so much. I can't put my finger on it...but he sounds like somebody. Billy Currington, Easton Corbin, maybe? Will take me a few more listens. I like it. A little slow, but solid. Wade Hayes is who I hear.

Huh Sam Hunt wrote this? Well hope it's good and based on what I've been hearing this is a Traditional Country song. Thank you William.

I'm hearing a lot of Blaine Larsen in his voice actually. That's a good thing imo.

The Highway is playing this now as a "Highway Find."
I really liked what I heard of this, which further makes me wish Sam Hunt had just stuck to songwriting. ;)

I like it. I've been seeing his name on the Pitch Sheet's for quite a while now but this is the first time actually hearing something from him. I dare say it, but "Country is back" with this track! So I say kudos to artists like this and Mo Pitney, we need more like this and MORE songs like this. I'm really shocked that Sam Hunt co-wrote it

Just to be fair here, majority of Sam Hunt's lyrics are "country" it's his production and delivery where the "country" is lost. Songs like "Take Your Time", "Break Up in a Small Town", "Cop Car", and this one do what country songs should do, tell a story, it's just musically he steers a bit left.

I get it, just wish it could be slanted a bit differently.

I get it, just wish it could be slanted a bit differently. I have very little negative to say in regards to his songwriting skills, though. I personally feel as though his best contribution to country as a genre is his songwriting - as evidenced here, Cop Car, We Are Tonight, etc (not Take Your Time - I despise that and Raised on It). As a performer/artist I feel he adds zilch to country, other than a bunch of unnecessary pop, r&b, and drum loops. I'm not really going to apologize for that.

I do think Sam Hunt has a great voice however, he's super talented; he's just not my cup of tea either. I'd actually rather hear this guy (William Michael Morgan) sing over Sam. I'd be curious to hear Sam sing less R&B/Poppy type stuff, but the man can sound black and has some serious soul to his voice so in a way he is singing what he's supposed to be singing. Maybe it's the fact that I would prefer hearing him on the R&B charts than Country, I guess when it all comes down to it that's what I'm really saying here LOL I'm still not sold on the fact that Sam Hunt belongs in Country Music, I've said that from day one and have stuck with that..... but have never once doubted his talent. Besides, we need to talk more about this new WB artist and not Sam Hunt right?

This is, hands down, one of my favorite songs on The Highway right now. REALLY pulling for this one to take off at terrestrial radio.
