Weird. I could have sworn this would go top 10.

I'm kind of thinking that they wanted to pull it to get on with his next single. Isn't his album scheduled for April 1st? Even if they release the next single inside this week they'd still have to push that back I'd bet. I'd assume that the sooner they got the album out the happier Tim would be. I doubt his next album is going to be released on April 1st. Even if they released a great song this week and got it into the top 10 by the week of April 1st, they still have to do promotion for the album. I just don't think six weeks is enough to schedule television appearances and get all that other promotional stuff together. Well that's kind of what I was trying to say. Like, the album is already going to have to be pushed back, they probably didn't want to wait any longer than they had to and so they asked stations to stop playing "Suspicions" so they can get on with promoting the new material. I don't think any date is "open" until late May. I'd think May 13th is looking pretty good though, since only Carter's Chord is releasing that week. Not that any acts would take away from Tim's first week sales, but better safe than sorry.

I've read some rumors that "Kristofferson" might be the next single, so I wouldn't be too surprised if it was. I could definitely deal with that choice even though I'd rather have "Whiskey And You" or "Between The River And Me." On the topic of "Suspicions": It looks like it will drop to #33 this week in its 16th week. The week after that it could fall out of the top 40. This is the fastest I've seen a single from a big artist fall since I started chart watching.

Wow, "Kristofferson" as a single? They're really trying to kill Tim's chances at radio. I can't imagine going 5 singles deep and not putting out "Between The River And Me", but it looks like it just might happen.

Now that it's been confirmed as a possibility... WHAT THE HELL!! >:( Do they just like screwing with me?! If that is a single I'm going to committ hari-kari!
Here's how I rank Let It Go as an album: Between The River And Me Train #10 Let It Go Whiskey And You Nothin' To Die For Suspicions Put Your Lovin' On Me Comin' Home I'm Workin' Shotgun Rider Last Dollar (Fly Away) Kristofferson If You're Reading This I Need You
I mean, Suspicions seems like my favorite song of the year compared to the single choices they've gone with (and potentially will). Gosh...
I'm done. :)

the only one as bad as the singles and "Kristofferson" is "Shotgun Rider" which i am sure will be the 6th single

If he wants to wring whatever he can retail-wise out of this wonderful CD, then either 'Whiskey And You' or 'Train #10' must be the next and final single, followed by a new single this summer and a new CD in the fall.

The album is done. Just like 5th Gear, it has exhausted its sale limitations. I doubt any further single would help sales on this album -- shame, too.

I do have to admit that none of his CDs since his exceptional 'Everywhere' release in 1997 have been so horrendously mismanaged as it relates to selecting singles until this one.
And although 'Suspicions' lost upwards of half of its spins over the past week, that is still much better than the chart collapses for both 'Somebody' and the excruciating-and-then-some 'Stays In Mexico'.
The spin-buyng sprees launched by those respective labels essentially led to both of those songs losing 1,000+ spins in successive weeks, an almost certainly unprecedented accomplishment that neither artist would ever want to have.

Amazing how singles such as "Last Dollar" and "Suspicions" will lower the bar so far as to make a single choice like "Kristoffersen" a relief. Not that this song isn't a welcome contrast to the pop-infused "Last Dollar" or the funky-flavored "Suspicions", but this isn't the song to put McGraw back in the running for a #1 single and a momentum boost for his forthcoming album. If this indeed is his next single, I will just be thankful they didn't choose "Comin' Home" or "Put Your Lovin' On Me".
"Let It Go" is becoming an ever more apt title for this album, because it's exactly what his label has done with several opportunities to deliver impact singles to radio and rejuvenate Tim's increasingly bizarre radio catalog.
My prediction for Kristoffersen, if released, would be a #7 radio finish with little to impact on album sales.

I do have to admit that none of his CDs since his exceptional 'Everywhere' release in 1997 have been so horrendously mismanaged as it relates to selecting singles until this one. Tim's "Everywhere" is the last album of his with impeccable single choices. Every song that was released was worthy and they didn't leave any hidden gems behind. Curb kept the good single choice streak going with the first 3 from "A Place In The Sun". However, I feel they missed the boat by not releasing "Somebody Must Be Praying For Me" and/or "Carry On" and instead choosing to release "Some Things Never Change". The results speak for themselves (Some Things Never Change broke a streak of 18 consecutive top 5 singles for Tim). I think Curb did pretty good with "Set This Circus Down", although I would have like to have seen "Telluride" released as a single. I honestly think that would have helped the album sell more copies. That song was vintage Tim and would have appealed to his '90's fan base. Starting with Tim's next album "Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors", is where I feel Curb really went awry with the singles. Without getting into all of the details, I feel that no fewer than 5-6 songs could have been potential smashes but were unreleased from his next three releases--and this doesn't even include "Let It Go".

I agree that single choices from Tim's last few albums have been just awful. "Red Ragtop" is the only single out of the ones chosen that I would've released from the "Dancehall Doctors" album, "Live Like You Were Dying" and "My Old Friend" the only ones from LLYWD that I would have picked, and there have been some terrible choices made about this album as well.
Here's how I'd rank the album:
1. Between The River And Me 2. I Need You 3. Let It Go 4. Train #10 5. If You're Reading This (though it's not on the copy I have) 6. I'm Workin' 7. Nothing To Die For 8. Shotgun Rider 9. Put Your Lovin' On Me 10. Whiskey And You 11. Last Dollar 12. Suspicions 13. Comin' Home 14. Kristofferson
So, they really have not picked very good single that represent the album as a whole. Here's how I would've released them:
1. Train #10 2. I Need You 3. Between The River And Me 4. Let It Go 5. I'm Workin'
I would've saved "If You're Reading This" for the next album, so that people who bought the album when it came out would have all of the songs that they're supposed to (but that brings up the whole rerelease debate again).

I agree with most of what you guys have been saying, Tim is clearly one of the most mismanaged artists out there, and has been since Dance Hall Doctors, and it keeps getting worse. I think they went 2/4 on DanceHall (Red Ragtop and Real Good Man), 2/5 on LLYWD (LLYWD and My Old Friend, although I didn't detest the bad choices near as much), and now 1/5 off of Let It Go. I didn't have a problem with If You're Reading This, because of the immense response he got after he played it at the CMA's, so once I Need You lost steam, it only made sense to jump behind IYRT.
Here's how I would rank the album: 1. Train #10 2. Kristofferson (as I mentioned in the Kristofferson thread, I love the song, but I don't think it was a good choice for a single) 3. If You're Reading This 4. Let It Go 5. Whiskey And You 6. Shotgun Rider 7. I'm Workin' 8. Nothin' To Die For 9. Between The River and Me (I know everyone else loves this song, but it just didn't do much for me) 10. Comin' Home 11. Last Dollar (Fly Away) 12. Suspicions 13. I Need You 14. Put Your Lovin' On Me
And here's how I would have released them 1. Train #10 2. Whiskey And You 3. If You're Reading This 4. Let It Go 5 (although not really necessary to go 5 deep). Between The River And Me (not my favorite, but I think it would have done pretty well at radio)

There's no doubt in my mind that 'Whiskey And You' would be enroute to #1 if it had been released.
I also don't know of any of his singles losing 1,300+spins in two weeks...until 'Suspicions' came along.
