What a dumb choice. "Between The River And Me" is a smash hit waiting to happen. If they wanted to avoid controversy, then go with "Train #10", "Let It Go", "I'm Working" or almost anything else.

well it looks like you are the only one.^ well i am not surprised at all by this choice. after all, he is no CURB. I think this is by far the worst song on the album. I used to really like tim, but the last 5 songs i have HATED from him. "Between The River And Me", "Whiskey And You", and "Let It Go" were all GREAT choices for a single and even "Train #10", "Nothin' To Die For", "Put Your Lovin' On Me", or "I'm Workin'" would have been decent choices. Tim needs to find a different label NOW before he fades away. And people were surprised that he was shunned from the CMA's? This is a very good example why.

Exactly..when the CD first came out, my radio station praised it and played it.. I listened to it once and almost couldn't even make it through the first listen. This is an INSTANT station changer...

I'm also going to add that Tim says this is "my favorite record on the album. I'm a huge Eddie Rabbitt fan.. I've played this song for a while now, and have always wanted to record it."

He always starts having horrible single choices with the third singles onward from his albums.
Drugs or Jesus and Do You Want Fries With That instead of Blank Sheet of Paper and How Bad Do You Want It? COME ON.

See my thoughts about this choice in the "If You're Reading This" thread. WTF were they thinking? So many better options!!! I've got one question for Tim and his label....WHY?!
P.S. I've also read reports stating that Tim's favorite song on the LIG album is "Whiskey And You". Considering previous album favorites have been "The Cowboy In Me", "Everywhere", and "Kill Myself"-- all fantastic songs imo, it's hard to believe this could be Tim's favorite. WAY seems more up his alley, but that's just me.

Drugs or Jesus and Do You Want Fries With That instead of Blank Sheet of Paper and How Bad Do You Want It? COME ON. It hasn't always been that way. "Down On The Farm", "Just To See You Smile", "My Best Friend" (not my personal favorite but a very popular song nonetheless), and "All I Want Is A Life" (not one of his more popular choices but one of my favorites) were all 3rd single choices. Just for the record, this makes "Suspicions" the 4th single from LIG, the 3rd one being "If You're Reading This". That one wasn't too shabby, imo. ;)

This renedition isn't TOO bad until he starts slide-squeaking his way through "steal you away from me". He can not hit those notes.
Oh well, at least it's not as bad as the nails-on-chalkboard, forced falsetto he fed us on Tiny Dancer...

'Whiskey and You' and 'Train #10' would both have been mortal-lock month-long chartoppers IMHO, and either would have done a very nice job in launching the race for 2008's #1 single very nicely.
Like almost everyone else on this board, 'Suspicions' was my choice as the worst song on what otherwise is a superb CD.
I am thoroughly disgusted at his recent singles choices.
Not releasing 'Blank Sheet Of Paper' after 'Back When' hit #1--indefensibly dumb.
Not releasing 'I've Got Friends That Do' after 'My Little Girl' peaked at #3---really indefensibly dumb.
And now this........
I guess that this does mean that there won't be a new CD from him on April 1st after all; early to mid-summer now appears to be the earliest possible release date, unless he comes to his senses and releases either of the two songs I mentioned, both of which would undoubtedly go to #1, IMHO.

Now I know what a 'Maalox Moment' is---a really really REALLY bad 'Maalox Moment', that is.
But this one's gonna last all winter.
Unbelievable!!!!!

A lot of passion about this song but not necessarily a lot of passion for this song. I happen to like it though. I do think there were better single choices, however.

If this bombs (which i would be in complete shock if it didnt), then i would guess a single by February/March for his new album. i am going to go ahead and guess that this will NOT go top 10. I would say top 20, but it is tim mcgraw.

I like the song somewhat... I'm not going to say I hate it. But this is an outstanding album, and, for me, not one of the songs I think are single-worthy were released.
Knowing that this album passed by without even ONE of my choices ("Whiskey And You," "Between The River And Me," "Let It Go," "Train #10," "Nothin' To Die For") just makes me a little mad at the choices... I can't think of an artist's album era that has finished without picking a single song that I would've chose.
But whatever. Life moves on, and hopefully Tim moves on to another album of this standard.

The album does have a lot of superb singles on it. I would have thought he could have tried a few more singles off of this CD before putting another CD out. Last Dollar is probably my least favorite song on that CD, and yet it went to #1, so who's to say what works and what doesn't. I do agree though that Whiskey and You and the others you mentioned are great songs.

Tim's singles within the last two/three years have made me pretty much not like his music anymore.
"Do You Want Fries With That" is the worst song I've ever heard in my whole entire life.
Looks like something is going on with Faith, too. Her singles haven't been doing well at all. Maybe it was the "WHAT?!" reaction to Carrie Underwood's female vocalist win.

Ms. Hill has been complaining a lot that country radio 'won't play her kind of country music anymore'.
Perhaps her problem is that her music has been closer to pop than to country.
If she wants to know what REAL country should sound like, one listen to the astonishing-and-then-some new CD from Trisha Yearwood should do the trick.
I agree that Tim has made some bizarre choices for singles over the past 3-4 years, but he did say that releasing 'Drugs Or Jesus' as a single was a very easy decision for him because he wanted to get the song out for its very strong and sobering message.

I'm with everyone here, this is a lousy choice for a single. I personally thought that Train #10 was a no-brainer, but there were plenty of other good choices that I would have been happy with (I personally liked Kristofferson and Let It Go, but some of the other ones mensioned in here would;ve been ok). I guess I will just add Train #10 to the growing list of "missed hits" that Tim has accumulated over his last couple of cd's (All We Ever Find, Sing Me Home, Just Be Your Tear, and Blank Sheet Of Paper just to name a few).

This is really surprising. While I do not think this song is as terrible as some of you I am shocked it's the next single. As much as I heard TheWhisky and Youand Between the River and Me on Sirius Radio's Beyond the Buzz show I really thought it would be one of them. I never once heard Suspicions on that program, and they have a very good track record of prdicting and playing future hit singles, at least in the two years I've been listening to them. Oh well, I guess we can only sit back and hope his next release is better. Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, I saw all these negative comments on this board, and I thought "Whoa! This must be an extremely terrible song!", so I took a listen. I don't think it's quite as bad as what everyone else is saying, but I don't think it's really that great either. I haven't heard any of the other songs on Tim's album, so perhaps if I had, I would hate this song as much as everyone else. I don't know.
If the public reacts like this board is, it could bomb! Then again, this board didn't really like "Last Dollar" (I absolutely loathed that song), yet it went to #1 lol. So, who knows what will happen. This song does sound different to me than anything Tim has sung, so that could be a good or bad thing.
