Drake White was a guest on The Highway this weekend, during their "On The Horizon" show.
Before they played "Parachute", Drake called Chris Stapleton the greatest Country music singer of all-time...that praise might be swinging for the fence, but that's super cool to hear. :)

Has there ever been a country record certified platinum without a top 10 hit? Two recent ones are Garth Brooks' "Man Against Machine" (got overshipped but still...) and Lionel Ritchie's "Tuskegee". There have been plenty. Including Dixie Chicks, OBrother, Etc.

It's pretty safe to assume that he really did sell 1M. The difference between SoundScan (>663K [Nov/15]) and RIAA should be the direct sales via GhostTunes. Never ever there are 337K unsold copies in the market (this would equate to around 64 CDs in each and every Walmart [bigger stores] and Target).

Ariana Grande's album was certified platinum when the consumer sales total was about 400K.

I still remember Man Against Machine passing the 500,000 mark on the last day of 2014. A week later, it was certified platinum.

New Chris Stapleton video: Chris Stapleton’s “Fire Away” Video Brings Awareness To Mental Health: Music Row

^What a powerful video with a very important message. As someone who lost their father to suicide and a mom who struggled with the emotional stress his loss had on the family, I can very much relate to the video and the pain that comes from such a loss. Being my father's son I know some of those demons he had likely passed down to myself and I feel comfortable enough here to admit that such darkness can easily consume your life. I hadn't listened to this song thinking it was about suicide, but I'll certainly be listening it from a different perspective now.

"Nobody To Blame" has slowed down a bit -- it gained less than 300k last week, and it continues to see smallish gains this week. Still, I'm thinking this will wind up going #1. Chris simply has too much momentum for this to stall out. I'm anticipating a 14-12 move on Monday's Billboard chart (at least 3 songs will go recurrent, but Old Dominion will probably move ahead), and then the week after that it might be able to enter the top 10, especially since Randy Houser, Keith Urban, and Chase Bryant won't be able to stay in the top 10 for much longer.
Chris' iTunes presence is simply phenomenal. "Tennessee Whiskey" is #37 all-genre, "Fire Away" is #38, and "Nobody To Blame" is #53. On the country iTunes chart, "Tennessee Whiskey" is #10, "Fire Away" is #11, "Nobody To Blame" is #15, "Traveller" is at #61, "What Are You Listening To?" is #76, "Parachute" is #137, "Whiskey and You" is #141, "Outlaw State Of Mind" is #168, and "Might As Well Get Stoned" is #191. And of course Traveller remains the top-selling country album in the land (although I wouldn't be surprised if Joey + Rory move back ahead on the next albums chart).

It's funny you say that because I got a buddy who's never ever been a fan of country music and go figure Stapleton is the first artist he likes. Just strange considering that he's so much more traditional sounding than anything else in the top 40. He also likes Brad Paisley now too, for what it's worth.

Stapleton is int the rare air occupied by people like Adele now. If your friend likes good guitarists, I can see why he'd like Brad.

Ooh, "Nobody To Blame" misses a Billboard Airplay top 10 this week by .005k of total audience ("My Church").

I'm not expecting this to get all that much higher at radio. I think it will peak in the 6-8 range. I think Chris's strategy seems to be more to focus on the album performance, instead of specific singles.

it seems that radio is resisting "Nobody To Blame" for no reason at all. This is going way out on a limb here, but perhaps they're just mad since they weren't the ones responsible for Stapleton's massive soar in popularity in the past few months? Responding to this in the Stapleton thread: I actually don't think you're out on a limb at all. I've thought similar things all along. Radio gets really annoyed when they aren't the ones to "discover" and launch the next big thing. I'm trying to be glad that this one can already claim a top 10 peak, but it has all the makings of a #1 hit and so I can't help but feel frustrated that it's slowing down and getting passed by material that's mediocre at best ("Somewhere On A Beach" and "Mind Reader").

So pissed off that this song is slowing down in momentum. Also upset about "Shut Up and Fish" only getting to the number 23. Seriously radio, I'm so sad that Chris and Maren are being passed on the charts.

There's a chance that this could even go recurrent this week. It's probably unlikely, but it's definitely a possibility.

All the format "A-Listers" releasing singles recently is probably going to be the end of a lot of singles as stations will make room for their "core" artists. "Power of Positive Drinking" is already done, I wouldn't be surprised to see "Nobody To Blame", "Night's On Fire", "I Met A Girl" and a few others stop climbing due to the influx of new singles.

This one's stalling out, unfortunately. "Nobody To Blame" is down 52 spins and 800k on Mediabase for the week (lost 36 spins and 300k in audience today) and has only gained over 300k in MB audience over the past two weeks. I agree with ericNY2002 that the influx of new singles from the format superstars is hindering singles on the charts -- radio is basically sacrificing spins for songs that are "first to axe" on their wishlists, and "Nobody To Blame" appears to be one of them. The average testing (with extremely high negative and burnout on the Mediabase call-out service) seems to be contributing as radio is basically turning a blind-eye to sales.

This won Song of the Year at the ACMs, while Traveler won Album of the Year and he won Male Vocalist of the Year.

Any possibility this one can turn around after the ACMs hype? I mean he just won another boatload of awards, so it seems a little weird that this one would be let go right now.

This already won Song of the Year, which is worth more than a #1 anyway.

That's what I'm thinking. After all, it was the CMA's that got this song booming up the charts in the first place, so maybe now the ACM's can help this to the finish line?
