This sounds very different from what I had expected. Based on the live clip posted in the thread, I expected a slower, near ballad type song. That live clip was a different song.

Jake is still a pretty big star and has a nice career going and I think he has a good album coming..but man... I can't help but think how big his star might be if he had released "Heaven", "Life of the Party", and "Summer Jam" from his last two albums. Those are three absolute smashes that never saw radio and I think would have launched him into Luke Bryan territory.

This is awesome, vintage Jake Owen. The timing of this release is perfect for this to become the song of the summer. Tomorrow will be telling of just how big this will be, with its first day on iTunes. If this can reach the top 15 or near the top 10, I think this could very well be a huge hit for Jake. This seems like an unforced sequel to "Barefoot Blue Jean Night", and we all know how big that one was.
I actually enjoy the slow talk parts. It's a very Floridian style IMO, I can see why some may not like it, but I personally love how he shifts from that in the beginning to his singing voice. I think Jake should embrace his beach vibe style he has, its a great market that he doesn't have to share with too many others these days. The production is great on this, definitely would have fit in perfectly on the "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" album. It definitely has some great imagery in it, and I'm always here for good nostalgia songs. The lyrics are solid and logical, nothing seemed to jarring. I absolutely love this, and I hope this is a huge hit for Jake.

Those are three absolute smashes that never saw radio and I think would have launched him into Luke Bryan territory. Don't forget "Settin' The World On Fire", "Ghost Town", and "Drivin' All Night". I think "Settin' The World On Fire" would have been another big hit from the Barefoot Blue Jean Night album, and both "Ghost Town" and "Drivin' All Night" struck me as obvious single choices from Days Of Gold. I think "Ghost Town" would have done especially well. It's too bad that Jake didn't release some of these songs (as well as the ones you mentioned), because I think he could be one of the biggest stars in the genre now if he had. I know "Anywhere With You" and especially "Beachin'" were big hits, but if I were in charge, I would have released "Heaven" (instead of "Anywhere With You") as the 4th single from Barefoot Blue Jean Night, and then I would have released a 5th single, "Settin' The World On Fire". I like the song "Days Of Gold", and while it was a moderate hit (#15 peak), it clearly didn't connect as well as the singles before it. I would have probably released "Ghost Town, "Beachin'", and "Drivin' All Night" (in that order) as the singles from Days Of Gold, and then "What We Ain't Got" as a 4th and final single. Or they could have released "Summer Jam" for either summer 2014 or summer 2015. I don't care for "Summer Jam" at all, although I do recognize that it would have probably been a hit single. They would've needed permission from FGL's label to release it as a single, of course. Anyway, after my first listen to "American Country Love Song"...I like it a lot. The production is just a tad loud at the start of the chorus, but other than that I don't really have any complaints. Is it a Grammy-worthy song? Probably not. But it sounds like a big radio hit and I think I'll enjoy hearing this one all spring and summer. I'm one of the few Pulse members who loved "Real Life", and now that we have a great 2nd single, I'm really excited for Jake's upcoming album.

This sounds to me like the PERFECT late spring/early summer song. I already want to roll my windows down on a warm evening playing this song. Like stated above me, this isn't a Grammy winning song, but it's still a great record. I really am looking forward to hearing this song a lot. It just puts me in a good mood.

I loved Real Life. But I agree with the consensus that this is vintage Jake Owen, and I think this should be able to be a decent sized hit. Hope the upcoming album gets him on a roll again, as I think he's still just another big hit or two away from getting to superstar territory. I've always been a big fan of his.

I'm one of the few Pulse members who loved "Real Life", and now that we have a great 2nd single, I'm really excited for Jake's upcoming album. My thoughts exactly. So many more options on "Days of Gold" that the label and Jake missed for sure. It's a shame that album didn't do as well for him as it should have. I will say in regards to the production on "American Country Love Song" I think it's fantastic in comparison to 'Days of Gold". The production on that album was pretty poor. I loved the drums on this, and the complimenting guitars at the beginning. "Real Life" was great, I enjoyed it a lot, however as a first single I'm not sure that was a good choice. He should have played it safe and built up the hype to the album, then release this down the line. Totally. Can't wait for the first, nice spring day to crank this with the windows down. Really fun, enjoyable song.

Definitely agree- I'm not a huge fan of Jake's but when he hits the right note I really enjoy his singles. My radio station adopted Summer Jam and has continued to play it at least weekly on a regular basis with no signs of slowing down so I'm sure that one would have at least been a hit (I like it). Only listened one time to American Country Love Song; but I think it will grow on me.

Up to #15 on iTunes All-Genre chart. Hopefully this one can keep climbing and spend some time in the top 10.

"American Country Love Song" debuts at #47 on the Mediabase rolling chart today. Jake's song got nearly 70 more spins and 360k more in total audience than "From The Ground Up" and almost exactly the same spins and audience that "Somewhere On A Beach" got on its first day of hourly airplay.

This is getting played on Hit Nation right now& that's mainly a pop/rap station. That's definitely a good start for a song that just came out as a single. A+(except for the speaking parts)
EDIT:They put the Meghan thing at the end of the song. Whoops. Fail for Hit Nation XD

Good stuff. The intro sounds exactly like the intro to Stay A Little Longer to me.

This is the song Jake needed to release: a pure upbeat, warm-weather earworm. I like the song decently enough right now (it's no masterpiece, but I think this has a good chance of being the country song of the summer. This is gonna sound so good driving to the beach with the windows town or chilling on summer nights. Big hit written all over this.

Eh... Real Life was a lot better I agree. This is fine enough, I guess. Not awful, but nothing special by any means. I bet country radio will eat this up though. I like "Real Life" so much better than this, and still wish it could have seen big success.

"American Country Love Song" debuts at #41 on Mediabase this week. If my memory serves me right, isn't that one spot lower than what "Real Life" debuted at on MB.

"American Country Love Song" is the most added song on Mediabase this week with at least 59 adds on impact day. It's official impact date is actually next week. It got all the adds this week because of the iHeartRadio premiere (I know you knew about the iHeartRadio premiere being responsible for all of today's adds, but I thought I'd explain it just in case others didn't). The advertising from RCA Nashville indicates a March 14 add date. :)

This song is one of new favorite songs! Thanks Jake Owen for bringing some more authentic Country. It's been awhile since that happened.

Why does he keep insisting on releasing songs where he does this talk/rap-like effect with his voice? Luckily its prevalence on this track is far less annoying than it was on "Real Life," but he's a guy with an honestly pretty great voice, so I find it a shame that he keeps putting out such sub-par material and totally misusing his vocal abilities. I want the Jake Owen who sang the fire out of "What We Ain't Got," not the drunken karaoke-style Jake Owen who gave us "Real Life." This is a step up from his last single (mostly because he sounds better during the chorus), but it's still not something that does much for me on any level; ignoring the grating vocals during the verses, the lyrics and production on this and essentially everything else just come off as generic and meh to me as well.

I tend to agree with this. He doesn't sound very natural when he does the speaking parts - it sounds awkward, like he can't breathe properly or something. I like this a lot more than Real Life or Days of Gold, but that is entirely due to the chorus and the more restrained production.
