"Good Company" has to be a lock for the 3rd single. That's gonna be a smash in the summer of 2017. No doubt in my mind.

Pretty much the whole album is worthy of being a single, except maybe "VW Van". "Everybody Dies Young" seems like the easiest smash hit to me, I just can't see that one not being a #1 hit. "You Ain't Going Nowhere" and "After Midnight" have a ton of potential too. This is a really solid album with a good mixture of sounds IMO. I'll post my complete thoughts once we get a listening thread up.

I think Jake Owen has lost me. I love "LAX" but everything else is completely forgettable to me.

Wow! This Stapleton track is so good! (Not saying it's Country [which it's not]). Those guitars and that 70's rock super-group groove!

Very Earth Wind, and Fire, Stevie Wonder, Bee Gees, etc. esk. I guess you can make an argument that that slide guitar solo sounds kind of country haha.

I'm honestly willing to let some of the non traditional country elements slide, because the record is just so cool. I think it could pass as concept record of sorts. Definitely makes me want to road trip somewhere!

Is there anywhere online we can listen to it? I don't think so. I mean, it's paid radio, so unless it's part of their "Soundcloud" clips on their homepage, I don't think you can, unless you have the App I guess. I don't know when or if they'll replay it. Maybe tomorrow?

"If He Ain't Gonna Love You" is a great song, and I think it could be a big hit, but does anybody else find it to be a risky release? There are much safer options on the album ("Everybody Dies Young" comes to mind).

I was really thinking "Everybody Dies Young" or "You Ain't Going Nowhere". That one in particular sounds like a radio song. I would love to see "LAX" on the radio but I don't know if it would even last.
Edit: I would also add, "Everybody Dies Young" really gives me a "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" kind of vibe. I think it could be a number #1 for him if it was put out. Really connects with its lyrics, very catchy.

Heard the version with Ronnie Dunn on the radio last night. Ronnie sounds pretty good, but the cadence of his vocals doesn't seem to quite fit with Jake's lines, if that makes sense. It just feels a little off and that's partly because Ronnie is a different singer than Jake, but also because Ronnie's parts are obviously newly recorded (meaning that Jake didn't go back into the studio and re-record it with Ronnie). Basically they just cut out a handful of Jake's lines and put in Ronnie's vocals instead.
It's not bad and I'm a huge Ronnie Dunn fan, but I prefer the Jake-only version of this one.

I've actually heard the version with Ronnie a few times on The Highway and I don't like it at all. Ronnie hits the notes totally different, especially the first portion he sings "In the back of an old Ford truck"...
I agree, I like Ronnie's vocals but his deliver is just so very different from Jake's in this song.

Does "American Country Love Song" still have an outside shot at hitting number 1? It seems super crowded in the top 10 right now with Kelsea, Justin, Sam, Dierks and Blake all in the top 8 looking to push for number 1 in the next 4 or 5 weeks. I would love to see Jake get another number 1.

Justin, Dierks and Blake aren't even going to come close to blocking Jake or Kelsea (there's a 1400 spin difference between "American Country Love Song" and "You Look Like I Need A Drink", lol). Sam will be #1 on both charts next week (UMG is all but guaranteed that, hence why they waited until now to "Max Spin" -- they might squeak out a Billboard #1 tonight) and that will probably pave the way for Jake and Sony to push for #1 next week. I know Kelsea's ahead right now but Jake's hosting CCUSA the week of August 27th/28th and while I never think that's a lock for how things will play out, "Peter Pan" is turning into a mega hit -- maybe the biggest solo female hit we've had in a while -- and I could see Sony push for #1, get the MB #1 and maybe Billboard and then Black River takes over the following week (again, a chance of 2 weeks at Billboard and 1 week at MB, depending how things play out). Sony may feel its best to push now and not later, letting Black River play nice. We'll see. Jake's only concern is Kelsea though, not the songs that are miles behind him.

Thanks, the numbers confuse me sometimes. I would love to see Kelsea and Jake both get another number 1. Kelsea will be making history if she get there, based on what I have read. 3 number #1s to start a career all that she had hand in writing, hasnt been done in a long time, if ever. Jake will be getting that 6th #1, which is big for him IMO. Thanks again for the info on Jake Owen.

I would be moving him from #124 to #100 on the list of those artists with the most #1s. When that happens, the top 100 will consist of those artists with at least six chart topping hits.

Jake is definitely gunning for the #1 this week. "American Country Love Song" out-gained "Peter Pan" by more than 900k in audience and more than double in spins. It remains to be seen if Black River will play nice, but I'd assume they would since there's nobody close enough to block Kelsea the next week.
Have to say, having "American Country Love Song" peak by Labor Day weekend just feels right. I want them to secure the #1 then get the next single out already.

I really enjoy this song, and I'm glad to see it doing well for Jake and that they are pushing it to number one. I know that some posters on here have not liked the spoken word element of the song, and typically that would be me as well. I like that part of the song much better than I did on "Beachin" or "Real Life". The difference for me is the driving rock beat on this song and the mix of speaking and singing. On both of the others, the laid-back arrangement makes the spoken word delivery sound a bit too lazy.

Moves up to #1 on Mediabase today, gaining 124 spins and over a million in audience. I feel pretty confident that Jake will get the #1 on Billboard as well, especially since he had a higher lead to begin with there in the first place.

Jake should take both charts and next week will be a formality, with "Peter Pan."

What a classic example of "playing nice". Happy that Jake will be returning to number 1 though. Especially with a song sonically reminiscent of the Barefoot Bluejean Night era.

I'm a little bummed that Black River played nice with this one because it was looking like it wouldn't have been too hard for "Peter Pan" to block this one at the top and spend at least 2 weeks there. This isn't a half bad song and clearly better than "Real Life," so I'm at least glad that this one succeeded where that one failed. But I hope that Kelsea can get a 2-week #1 out of "Peter Pan" yet, because that would be pretty awesome and a rarity for females. There's still a sizable gap back to Dierks Bentley, too.
